QF-good questions- Fire side of building is 4 doors/8 vehicles. Call FD- only 2 FT employees. PD side has max 3 FT Mon-Fri. Building was designed with dispatch center and then two years later we joined a central dispatch organization that handles about 5 towns. Genset for sure is overkill. My bet is no hard estimates-other than Generac coming up with the quote for a PDF. Your question on dampeners above my skillsets but I hear you- have a call out to friend. Thx for response. Unit is 10 years old- best analogy I can make -you have a hot 60's 327 or 289 Hi Po and you say.."Think I'll improve this with latest pollution equipment!"

Change of pace question. My small town has a 10 yr old Public Safety Building-police/fire station. It has a 400KW standby generator (Generac) that is powered by a 14L Deere. Unfortunately when they built this building they put the genset right next to the building. So now 10 years later a "problem" has been identified as when the unit goes into its 20min weekly test cycle, the exhaust gets sucked into the various HVAC inlets creating an "unhealthy atmosphere" in the building-which worst case might be staffed by 4 or 5 people. The solution? We are being asked to approve an expenditure of $57,000 to install a DPF filter. I view this as just adding another headache and maintenance routine to the unit and at a price that probably exceeds the first cost of the unit 10 years ago. My suggestions have been; - Put a stack on the unit to elevate exhaust discharge-Answer...."That would cost $100,000" -Move unit 50' away from building-Answer.."That would cost $100,000" -Move test cycle to off hours when building is not occupied...Answer..."That would bother the neighbors with the noise" -Shut HVAC units off during 20 min test cycle...."Answer what about when we have an extended power outage?-we went 5 days about 8 years ago"....True -I've lived here 30 years and we did have an unbelieveable ice storm one year and it took five days to restore power. I guess answer to that is "TS"! Thoughts on $57G for a DPF -

I guess the challenge now is to make sure all areas of your floor are solid. was at a friends shop the other day an d he put a new outdoor post lift in. so I was asking him about what he had for footings and he rattled off what he did then says.."follow me". we go in shop and he starts banging concrete floor with a heavy bar around an existing lift and it has a very hollow sound. "Rats" he said. tunneling!

I don't think "layers of management" create oppressive culture. Too many layers just makes everything slower to "trickle down"-but eventually it gets to the lower levels. Do you think the black chief in Minneapolis was "oppressive"? Seemed like a well spoken guy to me but he obviously did not get the message to his troops. Or he was totally intimidated by the union. This dumb ass cop had almost 20 yrs and his share of complaints filed against him- and he survived. No doubt, what you could get away with 20 years ago is one thing, but in this age of dash cams, everyone in the public armed with a camera, how can anyone today think they can get away with crap like what took place. The guy was cuffed! Do you really think certain departments should be disbanded? Or maybe they just need better training as to just what is acceptable and what is out of bounds? Now we have the bullshit going on in Buffalo. As the PD line advanced, this guy gets in front of them and yes the cop gives him a bit of a push to keep the line moving. Unfortunately the guy is a senior and he trips over his own feet. So here we go. An unfortunate incident but now the politicians are jumping all over this starting with the governor.

I believe it was NBC national news led off with a statement I think it was Sunday night..."nation reacts to years of racisim" ..or words to that effect. No doubt this cop was an idiot who should have been either kicked out or corrected years ago. The arrogant look on his face says it all IMO as he held this cuffed guy down. But having said that, we are back to "black lives matter". And what event started that? Ferguson Mo. and Mike Brown- an absolute POS who intimidated a little Asian shop owner about half his weight and then refused to pay for the goods he took. Amazing how this dirt bag gets glorified. I've been waiting for someone to come up with the most appropriate phrase...."Black FATHERS matter". But none of the pundits have the guts to say that. Read an interesting stat the other day. In 1950, 19.7% of black births were illegitimate. Fifty years later...73%! Saw a cartoon yesterday..."How to break up a Black lives matter protest". Bunch of dudes scattering like hell and a little boy is saying.."Are you my Dad?" Yes maybe an unfair statement but we know what the reality is. I look at all the attention my grandkids get and I say.."no wonder so many kids turn out to be worthless -applies to some white kids too, just a far lesser percentage- when there are no positive role models what do you expect.

'65- When I bought it, the mechanical pump had been replaced with a little electric attached to frame rail. It finally crapped out and I was in process of hooking up a new one -about a 1-1/2" square cube by Purolator.- and that was last time I drove it-20 years ago. That new pump by the way must have crapped out in storage because ended up replacing it with a much bigger one. You are not first person to ask that- creature of habit I guess.😃

Well guys, finally got fuel system cleaned out, new electric fuel pump, new carb and oh yes new air cleaner . F-ing mice had taken up residence in the old one and mouse piss is very corrosive. When it fired up today on old plugs/wires blew all kinds of crap out exhaust-mostly acorns. Mine has a 2" lift. My son's has a 3" lift plus a 1" body lift. Can't believe how good that 289 sounds after all these years.

MT-Thx- makes sense-I imagine also helps with the fire danger if a lot of the highly combustible stuff gets some cover.

Well I too was thinking some sort of heavy haul tractor and it was set up to pull the jeep (right term DW?) then again doesn't look heavy enough to be a heavy haul tractor.

HX's good looking but when they first came out I saw pix where they had an "egg crate" or "mesh" type grill. IMO thought it was much better looking than the vertical bars-kinda like old school when shutters alone were the "grill". No longer available?
