  1. idiots just frickin idiots. all this b.s. costs money and must be paid by someone, I suppose in Europe this crap is minor but Europe don't move its goods from one coast line to the other like we do. we've now made engines less fuel efficient in the name of clean air ,and in the same breath said that its measured in pounds of carbon burnt. the way I see it is that we cant create new jobs in the private sector, best to regulate the few left out of existence by a slow expensive death ,and then bitch about companys moving over seas
  2. well glad to see murphys law is still functioning properly. go one day and not check bmt and find out I missed out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. just did mine, in place of the dynatard tool I was able to use a 1 1/4 wide gasket scraper to adjust and hold the barrel while setting the jam nut
  4. if just for a show truck or spare truck you can regroove some take off steer casings fairly cheep. just spent 702.00 today on a steer for a toyo m320 12r22.5 16 ply. mounted out the door with 15.00 bucks worth of equal inside. and they said I might get 10 -20 bucks for my casing. It was flat spotted from being out of balance or I would have had it regrooved
  5. not real good with the mushey stuff,we've all done some mechanical repairs that have been a little less than lets say ideal. a good reminder to spend a little extra time or coin to do it safe. I noticed in the truck picture the stone guards below the head lights are they home made or does anybody know where they can be bought for a older superliner?
  6. sorry guys I don't have a new enough truck, but you can test most potentiometers with a multi meter on the ohms setting with the pedal unplugged . using the ground and the signal termanals in the throttle side of the plug, connect the meter then slowly depress the pedal and you should see a value count up or down depending on arrangement of the switch if you see gaps in the counting [dead spots] replace the switch.
  7. made it work, got out the multi meter and went to work however I still have one unused wire. panel lights work tach works hour meter works. don't have a flippin clue as to what the sixth wire does
  8. I have a 89 rw713 I swapped engs. and installed another e9 but its a 95 with elec. tach. so I thought i'd swap tachs. called the dealer and got a ametek tach o.e.m. in newer superliners. however they cant tell me how wire it in. theres a six pin plug on the back with one black wire and five white wires. I've been trying to contact ametek, but no luck. if some one has one could you please help!!!!!! I think the blk.wire is a gnd. one white power two more wht. signal and last two wht. dashlite. don't want to hose up a 230.00 gauge if some one has one and could make a diagram and fax or email to me would be very awesome fax [509] 223-3415 email rginlow@live.com
  9. got my answer called eaton then mack e9's use a 10 spring clutch disc ,looked closer at what I took out and found it to be a 8 spring it also contacted the flywheel bolts. smaller dia. spring circle than 10 spring hope this helps someone else!!!!!!
  10. stupid question, on that model can you put the air filter in upside down? seen it done on old r models
  11. ok guys think I got it perfected I used one pipe from the cl700 from cooler to intake. i'll use the one from the rw713 from cooler to turbo, the flange mount turbo appears to be tall enough to clear the intake on the e9-500 with inline pump.
  12. the throttle link should have a spring centered lever on the side of the injection pump. have some one smash down fuel pedal and see if lever moves independent of pump shaft if no secondary movement is seen clean dirt from behind pedal, if that don't fix.adjust linkage until over travel is obtained at pump lever. once this is done begin as glenn said to find other problems
  13. went to install new clutch on e9 and actually read enclosed info. spicer says to use a 9 spring disc on mack engines. mack dealer sent me a 10 spring w.t.f.
  14. now that makes sense, the shutters were un hooked on that truck. thank you for the honest answer
  15. no shifter acts fine no problems with falling out of gear or sticking between gears
  16. while servicing the trans I had a 1/2 in. ball bearing on the magnet of the mid section can any one tell me if this could be a dropped detent ball? I have the eng out right now and I checked the front counter shaft brgs. there ok and the trans didn't act or sound funny. haven't checked the rear yet or removed pto cover. also no other debris in trans like brg. cage.
  17. as glenn said two 1/4 in tangs on a input shaft cant hold 40,000 lbs my advice is if you run off road set clutch brake to grab @ 1/2 in. from very bottom of pedal travel. if on road 1 in. works fine. there are several styles to chose from one uses screws to hold together the two haves the other uses a rollpin. I would suggest the latter for a mack trans. due to the under slung cross shaft.
  18. upon dropping the pan to check mains and rods I found the idler gear had machined its way into the front main cap, about 1/16 deep. I checked with seattle mack and they had no answers, I checked my e9-450 and it was fine, the bushing in it was a snug slip fit just like the 500's but it looks like it should be a press fit into the idler gear. Can any one help me out? Also found a piece of lined thrust washer apromx. .085 thick with a apromx. o.d. of 2 3/4 and a width of 1/4 in. any idea where it came from
  19. thanks guys, I did get more info. the 1989 e9-450 is a 6t1390 eng seral #with a schwitzer turbo pin#197514 mod# s4d-016 I think, the rivet partly blocked the last 2 numbers on the tag. the e9 500 is a 1995 with a 5n0483 seral # its turbo is a garrett pin# 4465779-2002r mod# tv7124
  20. the 500 I just got has a inline injection pump with a air throttle ,is the in line more painfull to drive than the v style pump on my 450? I've only used a air throttle on terex earthmovers can't say it was very impressive. any thoughts?
  21. just pulled a rad from a 1995 ch with a e9 500 it has interior shutters I don't think they will use them when they repower the truck. tommer construction in Ephrata Washington owns the truck. check with chris.
  22. the e9-500 I got came from a 1995 ch series, when pulling the eng. I found a 1/4 air line elbowed into a tee for the 3/8 line that supplys manifold air to the injection pump. the 1/4 line ran to a skinner valve mounted on the cab hood support the valve has a short line on the other port open to atmospheric pressure. and a 2 wire plug ,I cant figure out w.t.f. this is 4 its not big enough to dump manifold pressure in any volume [polish waste gate] any help please!!!! it appeared to be a factory install, never seen a factory puffer valve by-pass .
  23. I have a 89 e9 450 that went south I got a 95 e9 500 but the air 2 air connections are wrong and the turbo is pushing oil, will my 450 turbo work ok or will I over fuel????
