  1. There's a very good reason why 24-volt starting was standard with E9 V-8 powered Mack Trucks. You want the "kick" of 24 volt starting (the preference worldwide), for turning over a 16 liter engine, particularly in cold conditions.

You are doing yourself a disservice if you change an E9-powered Mack truck's starting system over from 24 to 12 volts.

Hmm. Very interesting. I was going to do the same thing to mine

  2. Hi all,

Did some searching online already and can't seem to find an answer yet to our problem. Our company has two E9-500's, a 93 and a 94. The 93 was freshly rebuilt last fall. With both motors we are experiencing oil blowing out the vent tubes...More than what we are accustomed to seeing. The 94 is really puking it out under heavy loads although the freshly rebuilt motor is not doing it as much, it is still doing it more than we think it should though. Any suggestions on a fix for this? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just out of couriuosity have you switched oils recently? I have had some trouble with some of the new oils

  3. My E9 has always put some antifreeze in the oil pan. Drain out about 20 ounces in the spring and were good the rest of season. Truck sits all wintah. This spring I took out around 40 ounces or 4 small water bottles of antifreeze. I know it isn't good or going to heal its self. But would anybody have a guess as to whats causing this? Engine has 227,000 miles. Doesn't build pressure in radiator. It will hold pressure if I pump up in the radiator. Could be air compressor? Oil cooler? O rings around the sleeves? Head gasket? Just trying to narrow down my options

  4. The Mustang H model has a 1693TA and I had it dyno'd showing 495hp at the driver. It has a modified pump and turbo on it. I have never driven an engine that is as smooth running yet sounds like ball bearings on the tops of the pistons. It has tremendous torque and it seem like the heavier and harder the pull the more grunt I get from it. Just love driving it.

The more it rattles the harder it will pull!!

  5. Those later 2V 350's seem to be really uncommon. Were they chassis mount charge coolers?

My 82 Cruiseliner was chassis mounted charge cooler but I seen what I was told to be a 350 with the engine mounted tip turbine. The 82 350 2 valve had a 10 speed roadranger and other than maybe a 2 stroke joke with an Allision tranny id say that Mack was the quickest truck off the line id ever driven. It would s@#t & git!!!

  6. The trans that locks in low range is the 12 speed. The 6 speed should NOT be used to split every gear except first. The bearing in the trans that is used for low range is NOT designed to spin at higher speeds and the bearing ends up failing. I am not sure if there is a 6 speed that is an overdrive..

    I have a TRXL1070 6 speed that has a .62 overdrive. 22.5 tires with a 5.73 ratio gives it 72 mph at 2100 rpm

  7. Was just looking at the earlier post of New Hampshire Macks and noticed the picture of the black R model " Deere Express" I saw it at the Two Cylinder Expo at New Boston for three days and once at the air port restaurant at Manchester. I wonder who owned it as I never caught up with the owner. Great looking truck.

Barney has his name on the door. Lives on Rt 12 in Walpole. He is always glad to talk
