  1. This was picture was sent to me yesterday. It is from a cold storage warehouse not to far from me that a couple friends haul out of. The driver here cut the corner a little too short and ripped the whole suspension out from under this trailer. Just to the right of the picture are metal posts/fence that are in place to stop trucks from going into a retention pond, and hitting the gate. The posts/fence worked today, he's not in the pond.
  2. That was definitely rape. I blew a turbo a few years back in Racine WI which is just a few miles north of the IL/WI border. I got some friends up that way that hooked me up with the company they use. I called them, they sent a truck, real nice guy that showed up. I was loaded and the driver informed me it was illegal to tow a truck & trailer in WI. In IL its ok but not WI, but he mentioned that it was ok if it was an emergency situation, even though I had pulled into a parking lot he said "you broke down in the middle of an intersection right?" I said yep! He hooked it up and took me to the Pete dealer just over the border. About a 15 mile trip, truck/trailer charged me $350 and did a good job. Keg1 I would try calling the Better Business Bureau and filing a complaint. What a bunch of a-holes.
  3. I borrowed this picture from a friend. He took this picture way south of Chicago in Danville IL. Nice looking six-wheeler. Would probably look real nice all polished out.
  4. I saw this six wheeler over the summer parked in Elgin. Look like it was a former LLamas truck by the grill guard.
  5. I tried the "off brand" game once myself. I bought a set of Aeolis drives that were a Bridgestone knockoff. They were $100 less per tire and the salesman at Pomps was singing their praises, but they were crap. They wore out at least 50,000+ miles sooner than the Bridgestone's and when I went to trade they didn't want to give me anything for them. Saved a couple dollars up front and lost it all on the other end.
  6. All excellent points made on the subject guys. It looks like bunch of the money came from a Federal grant so that means everybody gets to pay for this debacle. It's only on a one year trial. What does that prove. I'd like to see it go through 6 Chicago winters and be a complete rust bucket with corroded electrical connections and see if it holds up for a millions dollars. I haven't priced a new garbage truck but I would think you could get four or five regular ones for that kind of money.
  7. I saw this article in an industry magazine the other day. Chicago has spent 1 million dollars on an electric trash truck. What a monumental waste. That town has got so many problems its disgusting, but I guess spending a million on a trash truck will make everybody feel warm and fuzzy. The funny thing is the mayor, Rahm Emanuel just shut down two coal fired power plants on the south side of the city so I guess there won't be electric to plug this truck in and re-charge it, maybe they should have invested in a truck that runs on sunshine and farts.
  8. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Here is a picture I borrowed from Tom Bronge. I think this was taken in Yorkville at a show but I was not at this one, so Al or Trent correct me if I'm wrong. From left to right, Joe Keely's LT, Tom Powell's Pete, Lmackattack's Mack, Tommy's b-model (that he sold), John Fishers F model, (was also sold) and Al's BCR.
  9. I didn't realize Magnums were going for that kind of money. I know there were MH Magnums also. If there was an MH as nice as that Superliner would it also bring the same money or is it just the Superliners?
  10. I would agree with this exemption. Most major cities have only certain times of the day that oversize are allowed to pass though. Some will not allow you in from 3PM to 6PM due to rush hour so if you have to take a half hour break which causes you to miss your window to get through a city and then you run out of daylight, especially this time of year that could completely screw your day up. Now you will have to shut down and wait for the next day to continue. Seems like common sense to me to try to keep these guys moving to get to a safe place.
  11. Here is the BLP Construction RD. Got a picture of it last winter and one a couple months ago.
  12. These pictures were sent to me about a year ago by fellow BMT'er Macknutt. This truck pulled into his place of work to deliver but he was at the wrong place, so he decided to flip around and head out. Looks like he miscalculated and decided to take the concrete blocks with him. I'll give him credit for dragging three of em that far. Did some custom damage to the suspension also. He had to be towed out of there after this. Definitely a Super Trucker!
  13. I have had 4 Pete's. Three 379's and one 378. I also drove a W900 for a year. The W9 was a nice truck but I still prefer the Pete's. For me it was mostly interior issues. I'm 6' 2 and the regular cab KW is tight. I also don't care for the gas peddle positioning. It's almost like you are hovering over the pedal in a KW as opposed to just resting your foot on it in the Pete. The KW floor is angled up in the front and you cannot rest your feet flat on the floor like the Pete. Day cabs are always a little cramped but I always like the Pete. I like my 379 with the bunk on it, I can slide the seat back and have all sorts of room. I felt like the KW dash was also cheaper. A lot of plastic, that over the years started to rattle, get brittle, and break. The KW did have a quiet cab, I will give it that. I also think the KW 8 air bag susp is crap off road. If you go with Pete get air Trac or air Leaf with full lockers. I have had both and have had little to no trouble with them. The air Trac is a little rougher ride though. That was my experience between the two. I still like the looks of the W9 and I've heard the extended cabs are better. BigMack73, one thing I would suggest is to try to take a couple test drives. Just because a truck might look pretty doesn't mean you want to sit in it 12 hours a day. Take a couple different trucks out for test drives. You might feel more comfortable in one over another.
  14. This is not exactly a Chicagoland truck, but this cool B-model is from Springfield IL. It belongs to a towing company and it is still out earning. I took a picture of it out at Iowa 80 a couple years ago, and I borrowed a picture from a friend who said he got his doors blown off by this truck. I know he had a Superliner also that he sold and I saw it on BMT somewhere. I thought it ended up in NY.
  15. I borrowed this picture from Rossi's website. Here is the link to their website that gives their history and what they currently do. http://www.rossicontractors.com/
  16. Breakfast?????? Your supposed to be at work, you got a new truck to take out in the salt and cold. If you go back to page 82, SAS454 posted a picture of the DALE truck. They have a nice looking Pete and a Ford Louisville six wheeler. I've seen them all hauling out of Quickrete in Kaneville.
  17. Looks like Lindahl has one Mack on the road still. I saw their RD lube truck pulling off Manheim rd the other day to service some machines on the jobsite.
  18. Was down around O'hare most of the day today and spotted a few Mack's. I was rounding the corner at Lawrence and River Rd and spotted a big Superliner with his trailer stacked up, just barley got a picture of it. Not a Chicago truck though, looked like it had Michigan plates on it. Also saw a Rossi RD backed up to the Gradall inside the airport property, then I saw two Greco R models.
  19. Last week I saw the R. Zimmerman Superliner at 120 & 12. It was a long shot across the way but it was the best I could get. I saw it pulling into West Side Deere on 12 earlier in the day and then spotted it here later. Sharp looking truck with the horns shaved and extra lights.
  20. Not sure what they have left. I saw this one awhile back pulling an ACME scrap gondola. Might be the same truck.
  21. Truck looked good with the new paint. I've seen Jack out hauling corn in his GMC Topkick. If I had to guess I bet he's not missing gravel hauling. I'm counting down till my retirement, couple more decades and I'm done!
  22. Saw the JS Const 4 axle Granite this morning along with their RD. Also saw a few Stark trucks. Did somebody steal the grill out of the RD Brad? I waited for Paul to round the corner and took a picture, I figured he'd be halfway to Florida by now with the cold weather coming next week
  23. Did Material Service ever have Macks? I remember when they were in Dundee behind Palumbo and they had a ton of GMC General 6X6's. Seem's like a driver or two got killed in the pit on 31 about 15 years ago if I remember right. They were standing outside of their trucks and got hit by a loader or a haul truck. Al, do you remember that, and does that sound right? I have a couple pictures of MS trucks. An old IH that was at a show in Mchenry in 2009, an FWD that was sitting in Ottawa on rt 71 for awhile. Last time I went by the drum was still there but the truck went missing. I also have an MS mixer that was styled after a GMC Brigadier.
  24. Well, they solved that problem buy purchasing them. Maybe they are giving Western and Princeton a test run before they buy them
