One other question--I have to pour fuel in the inlet line to get the primer pump to work, even then a lot of pumping. It also loses prime, even though I put all new fittings, fuel lines, filter, etc. Will a bad primer pump cause it to lose prime? I had the injection pump rebuilt but I don't know if they checked out the primer and check valves.

I finally got the alternator bracket straightened out, installed the radiator, hooked up temporary fuel and air start tank, etc. One question; the fan belts vibrate between the WP and crank pretty heavily at certain RPMs, even though I have them pretty tight. Will worn sheaves cause them to vibrate? Any other ideas? I don't want to throw the belts.

I've got a vinyl record that came out of one of my dad's magazines (CCJ? Transport Topics?) in the 70's called "Sounds of the Turbine-Powered Peterbilt". These old prototype trucks are really cool!

Really looks sharp!

I really like that Chevy Cabover I drove a GMC Astro only one day kind of the same thing Wayback in 1976 they were both very cool rigs ... bob
My dad had a couple of Astros back in 1974, some of the features were pretty nice. Low wraparound dash, big windshield, tilt wheel. They had low-mount side mirrors, I don't know how well those worked.

Thank you Joey!

Even has an after market hill climbing helper on the right side of the cab.
I was working at a Cat dealer in 1981, we had a brand new 3208 come in that would make a sound like valves hitting the pistons every time you started it. We checked a lot of things over before the lead mechanic noticed the spaghetti line feeding into the intake. Come to find out it had an electric solenoid that put a shot of ether in there every time you started it, no thermostat to cancel it when the engine was warm.

The control line port is 1/4 pipe by the way. Seems more like a 3/8 line; if they want you to use 1/2 they should have put 3/8 pipe threads there.

On BigIron auctions, in Nebraska. Looks like a nice truck (with the exception of wedge brakes). Two weeks left on the auction.

There's also a 1979 R model that looks decent...I'll start a new post for that one.

Definitely a White 3000. I wonder if the concrete blocks are stacked on the Bobcat tires to keep the wind from blowing it away?

My single axle donor truck is an H67LT so it's got aluminum suspension brackets and air tanks. I cleaned the tanks thoroughly (inside and out) and pressure tested them. I used a jitterbug with 320 paper and then wet sanded with 600, 800, and 1000; then polished with Mothers. They're still scarred from decades of hanging under a truck but I like them anyway. I'm not going for a showroom new look, I like a truck that has some character to it.

I got hired in 73 to replace a guy that got hit with one... bob
What condition was he in after the hit? Interesting that you say that, because I got hired as a truck fleet mechanic in 1984 at Pic-Way Shoes after the guy before me stopped in the street to pick up a carton of cigarettes that someone dropped. A lady who was legally blind ran over him and he was killed.

I drove down and looked at this truck today. It's got a 4 valve E6 with the original Quadruplex in it; the frame has been sectioned in the middle and newer Mack axles with Neway air ride have been added. The transmission blew in 2015; it has been completely rebuilt but the truck hasn't been on the road since then. The owner said the motor has a problem; at first it ran wide open and then it wouldn't come up off idle. It's in much better shape than most old H models but it has a lot of bondo in the cab that is all bubbling out. He can probably get his asking price since these are so rare especially with a live tandem.
