Doing my part to stimulate the economy by purchasing paint! Primer, paint, and all the supplies are in the shop! Doing body work with a goal to start spraying next week. I'm also tackling the headliner. Wish me luck and stay tuned!
You ain't kidding about stimulating...the Axalta paint for my cab was $700/gallon.

Did you buy new circuit breakers? Where did you get them?

For 380 bucks you could have changed all 4 over to the modern style ones
Still, it is what it is I guess

One thing you run into on these old camelbacks--not enough room to fit a standard chamber. The rotochambers are a lot smaller diameter.

Here is a cushion cover with the dog embroidered in it; he also has some cushions and other covers.

I was talking to a guy the other day that had one of the Dodge "Eco Diesel" pickups. He never changed the fuel filter and it turns out the top end or something is lubricated with fuel; the filter got plugged and resulting lack of fuel damaged the engine bad enough that it had to be replaced. Good reminder that maintenance is important!

That sure looks like a pain with exhaust, steering shaft, etc.!

Looks to be in good shape for 189k. From past experience, if someone takes good care of the body and interior, then that bodes well for maintenance also.

Speaking as Someone who has stripped down & put back together more than his fair share of 2 & 3 piece Rims without incident or mishap. I'm inclined to agree with you.....
Same here; we changed hundreds of tube-type tires back in the 80's, never had one come apart on us.

On ebay, they're asking $15,000. Looks really clean; it says 300 Cummins with 8LL trans. and 56k rears.

I found Zoro.com is a good place to get radiator hoses; this Gates 2-1/4" rubber hose was $45. They also carry Parker nylon line and fittings at good prices and they only charge $5.00 for shipping. I found HoseWarehouse.com carries a lot of Aeroquip line and fittings at good prices and you can buy any length, not just the entire roll. I bought these lines & fittings for my Luberfiner and fuel pump oil line. I don't think Zoro will sell cut pieces.

There was a thread about welding the center back into a rim and we were discussing split rims, for some reason I can't find it. This split rim is on my truck--the lock ring is solid, and you pry the rim open to get the lock ring off. I don't know how safe these are, but I won't be using it when I put good tires on my truck.

Man, that's a huge log!

Its a perfect project for my kids and I. Now if I can get my hands on a clean superliner.... now thats my personal dream truck.
What part of Ohio are you in? I'm in Johnstown...a lot of the farmers in my neighborhood have R models and Superliners, but no U models.

On ebay...the ad says it has a 400 Mack with Jake, new Maxitorque trans, 58k rears, new 5th wheel and new tires. Looks pretty nice; starting bid $35,000.

That’s cool. I’d love to see more photos. Would you consider selling me some parts when you are done with your project? I have an H69 that could use a few this.
Mike.I may be selling some parts, but at this rate it will be a couple of years before I finish this thing.

I must have forgotten that your truck is a smith truck. It looks great so far. What number was it? Are you painting it in the Smith livery? Would you post a before picture please? Thanks. Mike
Actually the Smith truck is just a parts truck; I'm using the frame rails and rear bogie from a tandem and the cab, engine, and other parts from a single axle that I have. The color I picked is a teal blue. I think the Smith is number 160...it's got more rust than steel in the cab. I'm using the front axle, transmission, and some other parts from it.

What years and what engines did Mack paint in that color? I really like how it looks.
Good question. I'm not sure how accurate this color is, I think it's just an eyeball match.

Great to see the progress!
I like the engine look painted that color. Strange thing (nothing strange but an optic illusion) the engine looks greeny in the first pictures but much more to blue where it's already in the chassis.
It is a very greenish color, the blue is just because of the camera.

If you have the old drums, you could look to see if there are numbers on them--that would make it easier to find. I had the old shoes on my front axle relined at a local brake shop.
Burnt the immersion heater cord receptacle up:

I worked for a fleet in the 80's, we ran into a lot of dirty plugs or receptacles that would burn up the connectors. We'd put in a new plug and receptacle, no more trouble. Drawing 1500 watts all night will test the quality of any connection.
