  1. well,I was thinking about going to Macungie with my new BMT T-shirt and man purse and hitting on you,but you're a little too old for me...sorry. I'm off like a herd of turtles, see ya
  2. Well,i'm at home again, until at least Monday-truck's been running hot lately, and i've had it at Carter Cat twice already to have it checked out,and there's nothing wrong with it. It runs at 200+ degrees all the time, bumps 220 on a hill...but there's nothing wrong with it,the fan, thermostats, water pump-working fine I kept telling Jeff it was running way too hot,and he sent me by Cat both times, and when they said there was nothing wrong when I left there Wednesday evening, after wasting a couple of hours,he told me to "put foot in 'er ass,it's on them now". So that's what I did - when it got up to 220 degrees going up the mountain on I-64 before you get into West Virginia,I never let off it-I kept saying something was wrong,it was running too hot,had been to Cat twice and they said ,in so many words,"no it ain't-our high-tech equipment says everything's fine, you're an idiot, now get the hell outa here!" My theory was, it was the water pump-it's got 339,000 miles on it and never had a water pump put on it. I kind've figured it was just worn out from paddling all that water. I couldn't stand to keep driving the truck when I knew SOMETHING had to be wrong,so when I got in Friday morning Jeff told me to take it back to Cat,for the third time,he was gonna get a new water pump put on just for preventive maintenance( or maybe he was tired of hearing me whine about it!). So after I got unloaded in Roanoke I dropped it off at Cat again and went home. They said it would be ready Friday afternoon, and I was supposed to pick it up and get a load of pipes at the shop going to Monroeville,Pa. Before I got out of town good Jeff called me and said not to worry about picking the truck up-it had a blown head gasket. Didn't surprise me-I thought all along it had a blown head gasket At least I get to watch the new "Ice Road Truckers" Sunday night. And speaking of hot-geez! Went outside to stake my tomatoes after my Mr. Stripey toppled over and broke and the heat was intense. It's 92 here now. I remember when I was a kid,out in a hay field picking up square bales out of the field ( round balers weren't invented then!) or working in tobacco on days like today-or hotter, for that matter- but I couldn't do it now
  3. Bulldog Magazine? I'm almost afraid to ask after reading all these posts, but how do you get this Bulldog magazine?
  4. or maybe you'll get a couple gazillion and retire...just be a special consultant on BMT for a hobby...everybody needs a hobby they say. Anyway, good luck-I hope you come out OK . It's a shame to be put out of commission through no fault of your own, when you're just driving along minding your own binness.
  5. congratulations on your new Mack -found this LJ picture in my new Mack truck book
  6. here's a couple of F-models I drove (not at the same time) and a couple from my new Mack truck book
  7. it's been a long, long time since I worked on a 2 speed motor, but best I can remember they only had 2 bolts-or 2 studs coming from the rear end housing, just take the nuts off, disconnect the wires, and it comes right off. They have a rubber diaphram in it to keep rear end grease out of it because they take a really thin oil in the gear box,and there's a fork coming from the rear that just slides over the moving part in the box that changes the ratio.I know that's very general, but it's probably been 30+ years since I had one off. Only maintenance I remember doing to one is cleaning it out and replacing those diaphrams, because if rear end grease gets in them it's so thick they shift slow or not at all, just gums them up.
  8. ya know-you could be on to something there
  9. great!
  10. Thought I had the rabbit problem solved, but I guess not.Jobyna said she'd take over the dog's job for their salary,so I said ok-figured she'd eat way less kibbles and bits than they do,but it didn't work out. She was on routine patrol in the back yard when she spotted the enemy ( bunny). She got off a shot but the shotgun's kick knocked her down. She threw her equipment down and said "#$%@ you,I quit!!!" I said "quit?!! you're fired!" So,I guess it's back to the pepper spray. Tried out my new smoker / grill on some ribs today-at least that seems to work great! Cooked them over indirect heat as you can see, worked fine!
  11. I ordered a couple of CD's for Jo recently from Amazon (she asked for them, and I figured it was the least I could do,since I completely forgot her birthday-women are funny about that kind of thing). So while I was ordering,I figured i'd get something for myself too. I have several books by Ron Adams, all good, but saw one called "Mack Trucks" that I didn't have,so I ordered it too. It's really great, mainly about the first 70 years of Mack history-goes from the beginning up to the sixties. I saw Mack truck pictures that i've never seen before, and i've looked at every single picture on Hank's truck pictures. It's a book well worth having, and if anyone needs a picture of a rare model never seen or heard of before, let me know,i'll look it up for 'ya. Here's a couple of sample pages...
  12. well congratulations!
  13. diesel was $4.99.9 in Pittsburgh yesterday. I got 50 gallons at Keysers Ridge truckstop in Accident,Md. at $4.79.9 to make sure I had enough to make it in-maybe I should have filled up.
  14. I have all the above, except the rabbit fence-I put string around it and tied plastic bags on it to keep the dogs out, they're too lazy to cross the fence. After I took those pictures I took the dog out there and he went one way and the rabbit went the other. Sometimes I wonder what I pay other dog (the beagle) and another dog for-that's their only job.And I couldn't shoot the old rabbit,I can just imagine a whole family of little orphaned bunnies...
  15. I wouldn't trust myself to do a project like that anyway, but i'd help you if I could. You couldn't be any harder on me than Jeff is-I tried to get him to drive the mixer one time and he said " hell no,i'm not driving that thing-if a tail light burned out 3 years from now you'd say it was because I drove it"
  16. They say a picture's worth a thousand words, but these probably aren't,took them through the kitchen window...
  17. I'm only here for a little while-hopefully.I've been to Neville Island and went to Ambridge and picked up a load of 60' beams going to Chesapeake,Va. but the truck's been running a little hot so I left it at Carter Cat so they can check it out. Then i'll deliver in Chesapeake, unless they get somebody else to deliver the load, which would be fine with me. Jobyna was moving some stuff around while I was gone and ran across the secret home made barbecue sauce recipe. I've been making it out of my head and left out some ingredients, namely worcestorshire sauce and black pepper. the recipe is this: 1 gallon of vinegar-remove one pint 1 bottle of Texas Pete (or whatever hot sauce you prefer ) 1/4 cup black pepper 1/2 cup worcestorshire sauce (just pour the whole bottle in ) 1/4 cup garlic powder 1/2 cup crushed red pepper 2 tablespoons liquid smoke (I just pour the whole bottle in ) mix it up and let it set for a few days smoke a boston butt 'til it's done, pull the bone out, pull it apart, or shred it,or chop it,mix with about 1/2 cup of the sauce (i'd just pour a whole cup in),then call me now if I lose the secret recipe again,it'll be here. And if I lose it and the computer crashes somebody can e-mail it to me.
  18. Too bad I live so far away, I'd give you a hand with all your stuff- I used to be an excellent welder. No,really.Stick,MIG,brazing,soldering-I did it all. Last time I tried to weld something I couldn't decide which side of my bi-focals I should look through. You'd probably make me do the yard work while you did the fun stuff anyway! By the way,I got the first crate stuffed full of rabbits-what's that shipping address again? They'll be hungry when they get there too.

you're welcome-I want them all to be fat and healthy so they'll survive the trip to Fishers packed in a crate.

just gave the garden a final pepper spray, now I must be off. They say pepper spray works on bears,I hope it keeps the rabbit away. I have not seen a single bear in the garden.

where can I get some dynamite? I saw the rabbit out there last night just before dark, under the peach tree. I think it was eating peaches that had fallen on the ground. He can have all of them he wants, but I chased him off anyway. The beans aren't dead, they'll come back if I can keep him from eating them completely up. An old 275 gallon heating oil barrell make good smokers to make on a trailer. I've seen a couple of them, one had gas burners,Roger Eagle's was charcoal with 2 5" chrome stacks on it. That's about the whole place,I have about 3/4 of an acre, the little garden and grill is in the back yard. Note 2 CB antennas with reflector tape on them marking the driveway
  22. I only did one truck model-it was a cabover Freightliner.I gave it to my brother for Christmas, I think because I liked it ,and I ended up putting it together.
  23. Well, nothing new about trucking anyway except i'm already sad that I have to work tomorrow-Memorial Day I've finally finished a smoker/grill that Kevin started at the shop and never finished.I offered to buy it from him and he said I could have it,and it's been in the backyard for weeks. It's made out of a 55 gallon drum,on a stand. Didn't have any grill grates for it,but I cut off some old oven racks and put them in it. They should work fine for chicken or smoking a boston butt, but smaller things will fall through pretty easy. Good thing I have 3 more grills for smaller stuff, and I still got the smoker oven too. Been like Elmer Fudd trying to keep a rabbit out of the garden. The beans came up,even the ones I replanted and they were looking pretty good. When I got home Thursday I looked at the garden and they looked like stems coming out of the ground-all the leaves had been eaten by a creature. Looked out the window and saw a rabbit and a squirrel in it. Last year rabbits ate the cantalopes, but didn't bother anything else. This year I didn't plant any cantolopes for them,so they ate my beans-i've been spraying the whole garden with a little hot sauce and a little dawn mixed up in a spray bottle. People tell me it works, but I don't know. I don't want to try that new grill for the first time with a roasted rabbit, but I didn't plant enough beans for me and the rabbit too. ( just kidding,PETA people ) I've got to leave in the morning and go to Petersburg and load for Neville Island,Pa. That's just north of Pittsburgh. Last week I went to Fremont,Oh. and then over to Butler,In. and loaded steel back to Roanoke-6 coils. Then I went to Orchard Park,N.Y. and loaded at Brookfield,Oh. for Roanoke. Pennsylvania DOT nabbed me at Bald Eagle,Pa. on the way to Orchard Park. Gave me a warning ticket for my log book not being current I should have had it caught up-I had just gotten up on an exit ramp near Roaring Spring and was gonna go to the Snappy store at Bald Eagle and get a cup of coffee and get my book right. Unfortunately, the DOT was camped in the median just before you get to Snappy's. Rabbit is pretty tasty if you parboil it before you cook it-otherwise they're kinda tough might as well illustrate this entry too-the truck in the driveway, new (to me!) grill, what's left of some of the the green beans after the creature gnawed them off. And on a more serious note,it is Memorial Day weekend-let's not forget what Memorial Day is and remember the veterans, and those who sacrificed all so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. May God bless this nation, and keep us all safe. This I pray in the name of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
  24. looks good! So,how did you get started building models?
