  1. I'm trying to remember where I went the first of the week...oh that's right, took a load of beams to Syracuse, N.Y. -Beautiful country up in that area. Then I went down rt. 15 from Corning, N.Y. to Trout Run, Pa. (near Steam Valley) to pick up a load going back to Lynchburg. That's another of my favorite rides, from Corning down to Williamsport, Pa. All routine, except the load tore my tarp all to pieces. But the next trip, a load of pipes to Paintsville, Ky. was a horse of a different hue. The directions said to meet the contractor in the K-Mart parking lot in Paintsville. I told Jeff before I left that that was never a good thing, "meeting the man in the K-Mart parking lot- he's probably gonna take us up a dirt road right up the side of a mountain". And sure enough, that's exactly what we did. It was too steep to get up the hill going in, and I had to be pulled the rest of the way up with a bulldozer. They could only get one truck up there at a time, and there were 5 loads. After I got unloaded-I was first-I eased back down the hill and turned right on rt. 40 because I couldn't make a left like I wanted to, or i'd have taken the guardrail with me. Had to go past the entrance going in, up to an intersection, and turned right and then backed up into the road to turn around so I could turn left into the jobsite entrance. The front axle on the trailer was dangling over thin air when I turned in as it was. I got all the way over by the guardrail on the right and dumped the air on the rear trailer ax axle so I could turn a little shorter, but as soon as I turned I started climbing, and the rear axle was the only one touching the ground.I had the power divider in and poured the coal to it, but still couldn't make it all the way up. You can see where the truck was spinning in the picture taken on the right side. That's Kentucky rt. 40 down at the bottom of the hill, and it was a really tight turn- should have walked down a little further and took a better picture. Oh well, bring on the bulldozer... when I finally got unloaded I saw one of the other trucks that had tried to turn around, and got stuck in the process. He had to call a wrecker to get out. And i'm sure everybody else had to be pulled up the hill too. Once again, when it's bad, there's always somebody worse off. Nice looking wrecker though. I also hit a bird on the way, and the passenger window was down about 2 inches-what a mess!..feathers all up in the cab...bird parts all over the window. Loaded with beams now going to Birmingham, to deliver Tuesday. I have a doctor appointment Monday to get this huge cyst on my back looked at. It's been there for years, right up between my shoulder blades, and i've had it "removed" a couple times, and had to have it lanced several more times, but it's always come back. It'll be fine for several years usually, then all of a sudden it'll get sore and very painful, like it is now. Can't lean back in a chair or sleep on my back at all.
  2. well...gee...I guess so. I can deposit it in my account, then send that amount by paypal. Or, it's easy to sign up if you'd rather- https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_...neral&nav=0 or, to go straight to the sign up page- https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cm...511727fbf3e9efc but yeah, i'll do that for ya. I should have put this link on here at first anyway.
  3. ...I admire your optimism. oh well, nothing like having confidence...
  4. How much change was in the can? I estimated $250. I poured in into another can that wouldn't quite hold it all. I put my change out of my pocket in it twice since, Friday and last night. Counted it this morning and it was $33.75. I just called the bank and the can I took in last week had $218.59. That comes out to $252.34-when you figure I added the change out of my pocket twice since-damn I was close!..wish I could guess lottery numbers like that!
  5. after you resize a picture, don't forget to click "save" or "save as".
  6. I can see it now... Rob arrives home from a long road trip to Oklahomer and sits down at the table to enjoy a delicious ''slab-o-lab" stew Momma had made last Tuesday. "Where's Nikki?" says Rob. Momma cuts her eyes over at Junior briefly and says "couldn't say...she done r-u-n-n-o-f-t ". Rob says "she must be looking for answers". Momma says "possibly...but it's more likely she took off with that fellar that come up here in that airplane and landed in the yard. I don't know who he was, but he sure is a nice fellar". Junior says "I'll kill 'at sumbitch!" Rob says "you shouldn't oughta talk like 'at-yer jest a boy! Now go out to the shop and git me that lawnmower blade off the workbench. The one I just sharpened year before last and never got around to putting back on the mower." Then he tells momma "you better call that 9-1-1. Tell 'em to send a amburelence and a hurst. Mike's gonna be needin' one or the other as soon as he gits back here" (That's 2 whole movies in a nutshell-"O Brother Where Art Thou" and "Slingblade")
  7. I saw an old PowerWagon or two when I went to look at those old trucks a while back.
  8. It's just a lizard-see his hind legs there?..probly gotta biggerize it- that's the only place he would stop so I could take his picture!
  9. a COUPLE?!! more like- oh...first of June, first of June...
  10. I would ask if you could stop by and pick me up too-i'd like to take a look around myself while the cat's away...but i'm too far out of route.
  11. ...and don't forget to wear your bib overalls and straw hat so you don't burn your crack or your head further.
  12. I saw a nice looking crackerbox GMC with a single axle flatbed on a trailer today headed south on 81 in Pa. I assumed it was headed to Huntsville, but I don't know who it was
  13. Thanks Larry, you're a good man for helping others. I bet he wasn't expecting part of your winnings-that's the good part. I was afraid Bill might be offended, but it was the exact opposite. He greatly appreciated it and said it "couldn't have come at a better time"...gives you a good feeling,eh? (that's Canadian) I know times are tight for everybody (that includes me!) now, but you never have to look far to find somebody worse off than you are. I think i'll keep doing the pocket change can for my "Old Bill fund".
  14. Congratulations on taking the win! That gray haired hippy driver is pretty red there-better get him some of that noxzeemer skin cream! You should wear long sleeves and a straw hat when you're outa the car!
  15. Thank you Joe. After talking to him today I know he'll appreciate it...I don't think things will be getting better for him anytime soon either. ...and yes she was!
  16. Actually I was wrong, it's only 26,804. I'm gonna get going right now, over to the Chinese Buffet in Altavista And it's not that bad really. Sometimes I tend to exaggerate. It does take a lot to make me mad though-but when i'm mad, i'm really mad!
  17. no, actually I borrowed Rob's, just haven't sent it back yet. He said they were very hard to get. I'm gonna send it back to him soon as I find it.
  18. Bill just called back. I just got off the phone with him-said he had to go before he got teary eyed. Sure makes me feel good that he appreciated it so much, but still sad for his situation. Especially when he said it couldn't have come at a better time, just "out of the blue". He said he lives on his gummint pension, similar to our social security. Was forced to get out of trucking when he turned 65, and nearly lost everything. A friend built him a computer and taught him how to use it, or he said he would've went crazy. Anyway, he got his paypal account straight, now he just has to wait for the bank to open. Wish we could have a big fundraiser for him.
  19. Old Bill just contacted me on windows live messenger...then he sent an e-mail, wanting my cell phone number, because i'd had the home phone disconnected. I figured I must be in really big trouble...not the case. He wanted to make sure i'd sent the money through paypal, and that it wasn't a scam. I told him I was afraid he'd be mad, but he said no, not at all-it was too generous. He was really appreciative and said he'd call back in about an hour, after he got paypal figured out...whew! that's a relief.
  20. oh boy, I love to play "fix that post"- i'm gonna start reviewing yours right now!
