  1. I recently took my first trip over the Rockies and into Spokane, WA. I had never travelled that far west before. I have studied trucking history so I was not surprised at the lack of :mack1: out west. Just regional preferences based on location of manufacture, I suppose. KW's and PETE's were originated on the west coast and still maintain popularity there. In more recent times, Mack has not had a big power engine to compete in the western mountain markets.

It was also interesting to me to see the different trailer and wheelbase configurations in various areas of our country, such as Rocky Mt. doubles and triples, and truck/ full trailer combos. Quite a few cabover trucks still in use as well, probably due to the longer trailers.

I made that trip to Puyallup this winter, my first trip to the great northwest too. I'd been to California several times, but it was 30 years ago. I loved it, except for the snow and ice part-you can really cover some ground in a day out there in the wide open spaces, with little traffic on the road, 70 or 75 mph speed limits, and it's just beautiful country too.

I certainly wouldn't mind making that trip again now that it's warm. Montana's probably even prettier now.

  2. Underdog;

Weren't you nominated for president of this great country and declined? That was a pristine opportunity to engage the inherent problems within the laws and governances we must live under, and abide by, to offer a lead to a path of correction for the flaws that are important to you as brought to the forefront.

No one has "blamed each other". In this example Other Dog has not blamed me for anything. I just "cut to the chase" and placed blame for the alternate paths some of these threads take where it belongs!

This is of course; "The way that I see it".

I'm glad I drive a Peterbilt. You'd probly be bored without having me to pick on. :D

  3. Besides, if we were like real politicians we'd have a secret meeting in the back room of a body shop at an undisclosed location somewhere in the midwest, with a cloud of cigar smoke over us and the liquor flowing freely- then blame somebody else that had nothing to do with us veering off course, like nocluejoe, or perhaps Greg Rider

  4. Does any one happen to have or know where I can get two round shift knobs (like original) for a duplex H-67? In it's long life some one replaced the knobs with extensions. Extensions work well on B models and Roadrangers but on a H model I just like to put my hand over the ball. I guess it's just what you are use to. The H models I drove were company trucks and had what came from the factory, so I got use to that feel. Some drivers though did add their own extension to Roadrangers in the Crackerboxes we drove.

    Double Diamond

I would guess a junk yard or find an old unit sitting in the woods somewhere...I don't know, they're hard to find anymore. If i'd only known 20 years ago what I knowed now, i'd have bought a few dozen. Then you could go in any truckstop and find a wide variety of knobs, adapters, extensions, whatever you wanted. Then they had to go and change the range selectors and splitter button.

  5. Where do I even begin, Name is Larry, I was raised around trucks my whole life mostly Mack's and Freightliner's but I'm a Mack man through and through. Rode in a 69 R model, 80's Superliner, several CH's, and a then new 03 Mack Vision when the old man drove for Beelman (CH's and Vision's were Beelman trucks). I worked at a local petroleum outfit in the shop and they only have one Mack CH in the fleet and drove that around the yard a few times, that had a Mack 10spd with the E-7 427. As of right now I'm waiting to start college to get my associates in accounting (14 month long program) and from there I want to buy my own truck ( :mack1: ) and go into business for myself doing some local/regional/otr work. :D

:WELCOME: We were hauling piling from Va. to Conoco-Philips in Roxana for a long time, all spring, but I guess it's over with. Hopefully they're just driving some of what they had on the ground and they'll need more later. Things are kinda slow now.

  6. Try that with a new truck; Say a Pete........

I've never been a thief except one time with a buddy in high school. We were out on our dirt bikes and decided to grab us a couple of watermelons from a local farm field. I had a nice big juicy one as did my friend and we were walking back to our bikes when from the distance somebody yells; "Hey, what the F*%# are you kids doing"!! I suppose the natural progression of things when you are carrying merchandise that you have illegally acquired is to RUN!, (which I did after tossing the melon). Long story short is that I jumped on my bike and hauled ass down the trail, but not before I heard an explosion in the background just as I got moving. I find out later in the day that my buddy has several minor perforation(s) to the back of his legs, and back from a rock salt laden shotgun blast, we both had helmets on. He was in some serious pain once the adrenelin settled down. I remember him laying face up in a creek to wash the salt out. I did not get hit at all because I got moving first.

I thought his dad was going to keel over with a heart attack he was laughing so hard when he found out what happened.

    Rob

raiding a watermelon patch is a time honored tradition-kinda expected.

  7. That's such a welcome relief. I was getting a sore neck from all the moping around due to my sensitive side being picked on again.

I think three wraps of ni-chrome wire around the thiefs' testicles with a limited amount of voltage applied to cauterize the wound would be adequate. This could be referred to a proper "severance package" due to the nature of the job performed.

I hate thieves and think punishment should fit the crime without regards to reformation.

    Rob

I agree. I was robbed at the old TA truckstop on I-70 just north of Dayton around '80 or'81. While I was taking a shower a thief reached over the door and stole my pants off a hook. Got my wallet with my drivers license, what little cash I had, all my keys-had to take the switch out of that F-model and start it with 2 paper clips. I still wish i'd seen that arm coming over the door so I could have twisted it off and showed him what the other end of it looked like.

  8. I notice :mack1: seems to be popular in the Northeast as far as OTR/regional and garbage hauling operations is concerned. Here in the Mid-West :mack1: is popular with garbage outfits, dump outfits, tanker outfits, and not really popular as far as OTR/regional operations. Are :mack1: popular anywhere else besides the Northeast and Mid-West, if so in what type of operations are they popular in? I get excited when I see a :mack1: in OTR/regional operations because it's a rare site to see with other junk trucks being on the road due to companies purchasing them for cheap.

South Roxana, Il?..we've hauled a pile of piling out there this year to the Conoco Philips refinery!

  9. I don't understand what all the fuss is about. Whenever I lacerate myself, one of Momma's 13 inch wide "Maxi Pads" and a roll of duct tape is all that is needed to contain the bleeding from me; Just as it does for her.

You guys are such wimps sometimes.

    Rob

thanks for using the "w" word- Jo called me a "pu..." word. :( , just because I was writhing in pain when she grabbed me and wanted a smooch Friday.

  10. Tom,

But doesn't it make you feel special to be pulled by a Mack instead of the others?

    mike :D

The Superliner wrecker had to pull a Western Express Freightliner out of the ditch. He tried to make a u-turn and ran out of room. The dozer that pulled me up the hill was a...I don't remember what it was...not a Cat though. I should have taken a picture, but sometimes ya' gotta constipate on the task at hand. I had gotten unloaded and was headed to Lexington when I came upon the wrecker. I still wonder how the other 4 trucks (all different companies) made out at the job site. The Western Express had a 53' trailer, but had the 48' axle setting, and it was a Columbia Freightliner. I'm sure I had the longest truck, and it was TIGHT!.. very TIGHT!

  11. I took a bunch of pictures on thursday. I will post them soon so stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just cant get them loaded right now,:SMOKIE-RT::SMOKIE-LFT::chili:

I picked up some steel in Lexington last week, at Harry Gordon Steel-kind of a tight spot to get into!

  12. Looking for advice, eh? Well, you've certainly come to the right place for that. Folks here are full of good advice. Rob is one of the best advice givers, but he hasn't been seen or heard from in a while...

    oh Rob, it's you! Howdy!

nobody has said anything about you, or even mentioned you while you're gone-I been keeping watch for ya
