  1. whats the best way to pull the steering wheel on a b61t? just about ready to remove cab.

if you don't have a steering wheel puller the 2 hammer method usually works. remove the horn button and back the nut off even with the end of the shaft, so you don't damage the threads on the shaft or the nut. have a helper take a ball peen hammer and hold it tight against the nut while you pull up on the wheel hard as you can. then have him hit the hammer on the shaft with another hammer, and it'll usually pop loose. usually that is.

if it doesn't, you can try having your helper pull up on the wheel while you hit it with the hammer.

  2. I like to leave the tire tread in mine cause it gives ya the extra traction to git outa bed in the mornings and when walkin down the driveway to the mailbox it keeps me from wandering off into the grass. Reminds me I have to get an alignment soon and let'em check my toe-in at the eye doctor's office. I pee beer over my bran-flakes in the mornings....no need wasting good beer, it's the green kind I dislike......humm...I bet I could use alittle STUBB'S on them also.

    mike :blink::D

I'll sometimes pick up small pieces of rubber from blown truck tires off the highway and add a piece or two to the fire for a little different taste.

  3. I'm still trying to climb out of the hole right now, I had the satillite turned off when the freight went thru the floor. Thank God I didn't buy that new truck last year I would have lost it by now.

yeah, know what you mean. I'm sitting here now waiting on a load.

  4. I always liked to stab the meat full of holes with a fork and let it soak for a couple of hours in beer while in the fridge. Gives it a little "extra" and removes the taste of tire tread.

"Open Pit" is popular here on the grocery store shelves. Really good poured over wheat toast for breakfast.

    Rob

actually, that reminds me of a good recipe I use on country style ribs. I boil them in beer, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion, and a little barbecue sauce, then simmer them until they're almost done. Then just put them on the grill long enough to brown them good on both sides, and that's it. Simmering in the beer makes them very tender.

  5. I've heard of Stubb's. "Bone Sucking Sauce" was pretty good on ribs too, it came in like a pint canning jar, and the only place you could get it around here was up at the produce stand in Concord. That's the only place I saw it anyway.

I told Big Jim I liked Open Pit BBQ sauce, because it was a little tangy, not super sweet like a lot of sauces , but it's hard to find anywhere. So he found it somewhere and brought me a gallon of it!

  6. So did my son. I really liked the show too. Funny, yet clean. Quite different than I was used to.

    Rob

I've seen Alf reruns lately, on WGN I think it was. I watched a couple last week one morning when I was home. I don't see it listed now, but I watched it for the first time in years-I did!

  7. Tom,

You're inspiring me to put out a garden. I have not done that for a long time. Don't do any canning so I put out very little. I always have tomatoes, usually squash and okra. I love a tomato sandwich or tomatoes on my hamburger. An crazy about tomatoes with fried corn, okra and pinto beans with cornbread.Got to add tha iced tea.

    mike

oh yeah-tomato, mayo, and bread-hard to beat!..squash and onions-hard to beat,..boiled cabbage with corned beast-yum!

  8. Last weekend I bought an owl at the local hardware store. It turns it's head all the way around and also who's 3 times at any movement. That owl sure has been busy this week He's sitting on my deck to guard my Mack from the Robins that like to s*@t on everything they can. Cab is mostly covered and they will still find a way to drop a bomb on it's somewhere uncovered spot. I will say that the $30.00 I payed for that owl has been worth every penny. Maybe I should have mounted it on the Mack to keep those Robins off of it, that ole Bulldog ain't doin his job. ...........I might need to just pitch it all in and get me a Scarecrow from someone's garden....Don't ya think that would do the trick? HUH.

    mike B)

mine's head turns all the way around and it looks real but it doesn't say anything. I put it in the peach tree last year at first to keep squirrells out, but they weren't intimidated at all- still ate all the peaches, so I put it in the garden. Rabbits ate all the beans and some cabbage, but to my knowledge no robins $*!t on anything.

  9. I think you should have planted more!!! Did the rabbits leave any for Rob when he comes for the hood? Wait..........., garden, vegetables, Rob,..........., nevermind.

I'm gonna plant more tomatoes, some squash, and peppers. Planted some corn, pole beans, and green beans Friday where the black dirt is- covered the seeds with potting soil. Also got cucumbers, butternut squash, and okra in another spot. Plus there's the onions and 18 cabbage plants- nobody can eat that much cabbage! :D

  10. Not only have I put a chicken wire fence around the garden to keep varmints out, today I aquired a scarecrow as a secondary defense. It should pick up the slack left by the worthless owl.

It had a blank face, but I took a picture of myself and "cut, copied, and pasted" my own face on it. It looks so real Jo came out and had a conversation with it, thinking it was me. Got pictures to prove it...

  11. I will try and do a video, Rob is going to come over in a week or two. maybe I can talk him into playing camera man. That is if we can get both of our rageing fat-a$$es into the cab of a B model. I may need some pointers on how to load a video on to the site.

As for your grinding, Try shifting with out the clutch and see what happens, It sould go in whe the RPM is right, or it should I guess??

    Fred

speaking of videos, this is about the best triplex shifting video i've seen. you can tell this guy's done this a few times!

  12. That is referred to as "oil canning" of the panel. It is easily repaired by heat shrinking the steel substrate, then stretching it back to the proper contour, (hammer and dolly work). That type of dent is common with dump trucks, and mixers that had the tanks mounted high such as yours. With the panel completely paint stripped as yours was, the time to repair that damage would have been neglible. The bracing underneath? The B model hoods were a sturdy design with the crown built/rolled into the panel to make it self supporting and they did their job quite effectively. I don't understand the need for added bracing for support.

As long as you are happy, all is great.

This of course is just my unsolicited opinion......

    Rob

I don't either, but I know nothing about body work. The man that painted it has had the reputation of being the best around, and he suggested I look for another hood! I never thought it was that bad, or that it would be hard to fix it right. I'd be a lot happier if it had been. I wish now i'd sent it off to be fixed. He only charged $150, and only did the bare minimum work.

  13. I noticed some of the dents as you mention. Hard to believe they were painted over.

    Rob

it looks like somebody stepped on it or sat on it. you can pop them out with your hand but they pop right back in. it was like that when I got it. looks like he coulda put a stiffener of some kind on the underside to hold it stiff and fixed it pretty easy, but I don't know.

  14. I'm actually making attempt to get over the loss of sale on a mixer I'd planned. After all the marketing, coordination from participating parties, processing of associated paperwork, and reception with deposits of funds to make this deal come together; You go and stick a RED hood on the unit negating the conditions of sale set forth.

This unit was advertised, and sold with a BLACK hood installed. Not a Red one with too much, (by a couple grams) blue tint retained to the color mix rendering a "shade off" to suit the truck.

I don't feel like a "screwed pooch" often, but this is one of those times.

    It's all your fault.

    Rob

I wanted the top of the hood black, but it has some bents in it and I figured they would show up worser black. :(

  15. Fred,

Thats great!, I know many and including me will be glad to have this to look at and use it for training purposes as well. For us Mack Lovers I would even like to someday go to a web-site to get information from a B- Model Repair Manual. This would not cause the people to leave the BMT site, but would help educate those like myself to better understand what the in's and out's are all about. I myself believe in the ole tried and true hands on training that ya don't always get from a book. Their will always be questions to ask and we already have that resource here, plus we have ROB too.

    Thanks Fred I'll be watching

    mike

    :mack1:

I see Rob's been on here today, but he hasn't said anything funny yet...maybe he's watching me, and loading up my mixer about now.

  16. Nice ride guy. Don't worry about the pictures they are fine, it's just like learning to drive a new truck. It takes a while to get the hang of it but it all comes out in the wash. If you have kids ..they usually know more about computers and printers than the people who made them. Good luck uploading all your pictures .

this is true!..how do they know all that stuff?

  17. Tom,

What's the latest with Miss Becky?

    mike

I got the hood repainted and put it back on last weekend. My next plan was to buy some used wheels and get some used tires from the shop so I can run tubeless tires on it. Todd said I could have the tires, but the wheels are $40 each and things are kinda' slow. Just don't know whether to just go ahead and get 'em, or hold off a while because they're not a necessity. But I do need tires on the rear, it's got recaps on it now, some have cracks in the sidewall, and it drives like it has footballs for tires now.
