My phone rang at 1:00 AM this morning. Even though my alarm was set to go off in only 30 more minutes, I was planning to unload on whoever it was with a nice string of 4-letter words.
Glad I looked at the caller ID first.
It was the night time dispatch guy calling to say don't head in for my load this morning....that I 55, MO 32, US 61....basically every road in/around/through where I was needing to go was shut down because of ice, and they didn't need any MORE trucks in the ditch....that I should go back to bed and call in the morning.
So, I did. Woke up this morning to a friggin' mess. 2 puke piles....2 runny shit messes. Dog was 1 for 4 getting it in a suitable location. One time, he went into the kitchen
(tile floor)....the other 3 messes are on the living room carpet
. Looks like Dozer is going to be banished to the kitchen for a while now whenever he's in the house....'til he learns that ALL "accidents" need to happen in there.
Wouldda been nice if he wouldda barked or at least TRIED to let me know he needed to go out....
Anyway, I called into dispatch, and of course the morning crew didn't have a clue what had happened last night on the roads. "They were all fine this morning...we had no idea you were told to stay home"
Load time rescheduled for this afternoon....gonna load & bring it right back home. No point in running it, since all the fuel stops will be closed by the time I'd be heading home and needing fuel....it'll deliver tomorrow.
SHORT DAY!!
I volunteered to work Saturday, though.....took Monday off to replace a radiator hose I found had broken during my usual Sunday afternoon pre-pretrip, because of course NOBODY that was open on Sunday had 1" ID radiator hose.
Wasn't leaking, but it wasn't under pressure at the moment, either. If I jiggled it a little, it would drip.
Worked out for the better, though...because the sun was on it's way down, it was 20 degrees, and the wind was blowing 90 miles an hour on Sunday. Monday was still cold, but the sun was up & the wind wasn't blowing.
I friggin' hate December....never can get a full week of work in. If they don't have anything for me to do on Saturday, it'll be two 3-day work weeks in a row...preceeded by a 4 day work week...and likely a pair of 4 day weeks to finish out the year....unless one (or both) of 'em is shorter
Yeah, that wind was something on Monday around here. Thought it was gonna blow me off the road a couple of times on the way to Orchard Park-with a flatbed! Went through a couple of whiteouts from snow blowing across the road so hard I couldn't tell if I was still on the road or out in a cornfield.
You should tell Dozer to cut back on those late nights at the bar. He might be wearing a disguise, but I know it's him.

Found a picture of Rob's last fender-bender....
I went back to the historical archives down at the courthouse and found a picture of his first one-

Yup. Slid the rusty, crusty, yet trusty Dodge into a pole while trying to make a turn too fast this evening. Funny thing is that I started the turn without issue and midway through when I floored it the truck decided to push straight ahead. The weather was clear and sunny, about 85 degrees. I was coming back from Hooters.
I think this will be the fourth hood panel, bumper and parts, and grille on the truck. This is the only time a deer hasn't been involved.
Oh well, I hate fixing things out of my pocket.
Rob
...hmmmm, haven't played "fix that post" for a while-
Wow,I can see why. Expensive poles in Illinois, must be mahogany or teak.

Left Monday going to Orchard Park,N.Y. Took a few pictures on rt. 219,except the last one was I-79 south of Erie. the R-model was in Monongahela,Pa. where I reloaded.

I wanted to stop by and wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
I know I haven't been here for awhile. Been busy with work and school. I should hopefully be taking my test for my CDL not this week but the week after that hopefully.
Here is a picture of my assigned truck.
98 Freightliner FLD120 glider kit with a Big Cam 4 Cummins with a horse shoe shape over drive 10 speed that came out of an 87 Freightliner cab over.
Thanks Larry, and merry Christmas to you.
P.S.- Don't worry,I will not mess with your truck picture.

We played a baseball game in Brownwood, TX one time in 1978. I called the home plate umpire an "idiot" on a strike call and had to sit the balance of the game on the bench. Then the Jeff-Moore Lions kicked their asses 13-1.
Rob
I know Jeff Moore. He owns the truck I drive.Never knew he owned a baseball team though. He was only 16 or 17 years old in '78.

Oh...I guess I don't remember that-the left lane was the Monfort lane. I did find these pictures, and the article was in this issue of "Old Time Trucks".
Sorry for the crappy pictures but my scanner doesn't work.

These are what most everyone remembers, big, FAST KW's......but towards the end monfort did run some WHITE "road commodes" (road commanders) that was pretty near the end of the company as it was once known..........Mark
They called them "The Left Lane Carrier" or "Left Lane Co." or left lane something,I do remember that.

Have'nt heard anything from randyp lately, was looking at some google earth satelite photos of daingerfield,TX came across this........may be the reason? i guess that "lagoon work" is as tough as he said it was!
I thought that satelite picture looked familiar. That incident happened about 2 months ago. In case you missed it, here's the story-

Randy and his dog Spot seem to be becoming very popular to goof on around here. (don't miss the new adventures of Spot!) Rob feels like Roadway Express when J.B.Hunt came along and pretty much ended "Big R" jokes. He just hasn't had much to going on to joke about lately,he must be working or something.

I found two Mack fire trucks one is an L model and the other I am not sure. They are both at Essington Av Auto Parts in Southwest Philly sitting outside. I called twice but the guy was very rude and said they are not for sale and hung up. They both say Curt Weldon fire brigade on them.
Sounds typical for Philly.Ran across lots of hateful people there.Must be something in the water- They love Michael Vick right now,but let him have one bad game and they'll be ready to hang him.

'nother warm thought for a cold day...
...reminds me of eating corn on the cob at a picnic on a hot summer day...
-
I do remember that article,i have a stack of old trucking magazines going back to the sixties, will see if i can find it when i get some time....growing up on the east coast when i did,it was quite unusual to see a conventional out here, one of the very first "fancy" largecars i ever remember seeing was a Monfort KW,long wheelbase (for the time) V8 cat with a 2 stick trans.( i looked in the window lol!)....they were quite the outfit in their day!..............Mark
There was an article in Wheels of Time a while back about Monfort. Or it could have been in Old Time Trucks,a really good antique truck magazine too.

... AAAHHH what fun wintertime truckin' is!......................Mark
Yeah...I don't mind cold, but snow sucks-to the highest level of sucktivity.
I remember that storm,I was afraid i'd get an Orchard Park load that Thursday but ended up going to Warren,Oh and reloading in Cleveland for Lawrenceville,Va.
