  1. Actually, they don't mind....I had a u-joint that was starting to make noise and needed replacement. They couldn't get me in to do it for me, so I swapped it right there in their lot. Only lost 1 load...so I guess I didn't do TOO bad :thumb:

My coveralls paid for themselves...kept my clothes clean & grease free.

...but I know what you mean...the Mack dealer up in Evansville didn't want to get me in (this was the first summer I had the truck) when the axle hub seal was leaking...some of the nuts were stripped on the studs. They wanted me to leave the truck with them overnight...as though I had a way to get home or wanted to buy a motel or something. When I told 'em "well, if you've got the parts, I can do the work myself in your lot" suddenly they could get me in.

Yeah, they're all pretty much the same. Salesmen and bigshots from Truck Enterprises in Roanoke (Kenworth dealer) would come to Appomattox and do everything but kiss H.H.'s ass (maybe they did that too,I don't know) to try to sell trucks but if you ever had to take it back for anything they didn't have time to fool with you. That's exactly why I told him i'd rather drive an IH,and I got one too-just because the shop foreman and service manager at Truck Enterprises were so hateful.

Virginia Truck Center in Roanoke, the Mack and Freightliner dealer, on the other hand were always very nice and so are the folks at Truck Enterprises in Lynchburg.

  2. I used "Gorilla" tape many times in the shop for grinding shields, cut lines, and weather tight integrity with visqueen plastic to seal cars up outside, etc.... Much better than the normal duct tape and retains it's grip through hot/cold cycles. Most times you have to use solvent to remove adhesive residue, but nothing really gets though it.

Although I don't believe I would use the product to band aid something that was my livelihood, it has it's uses.

    Rob

I just had to tarp some kind of radar equipment going to some airport somewhere in central Illinois so it didn't matter if it got wet.

I'm kinda just testing the gorilla tape. I used to use my "Clifford the Big Red Dog" bandaids on my tarps but they're expensive too and they blow off pretty quick.

  3. Today, I got to add the fuel return line to the growing list of parts & pieces I've fixed w/ duct tape... :pat:

Today, I patched a hole in one of my tarps with duct tape-Gorilla Tape actually, made by the Gorilla Glue people. Expensive, but seemed to work great. I only use the gorilla tape for special occasions-use the cheaper plain old gray duct tape for normal everyday duct tape applications.

  4. I would imagine this was the same G-model i saw being towed by an RL-700 wrecker approx. 3 months ago in southwest va. was not able to contact the wrecker driver on the CB, but made note of the towing company, maybe i can get in contact with them, see what the story with it is. The truck i saw was also bright yellow, looked to be partially restored, it was coming from mcguire trucking in drakes branch, VA was northbound on route 360....i will see what i can find out, and post the results- mark

Mcguire trucking is right off of 360 on rt.15 south. They haul a lot of lumber and used to bring some loads back in for F.L.M. This truck was only a few miles up 360 from Mcguires. Got my interest up now,i'd ride over there today and take a look but I got to leave for Fremont, Oh. shortly.

  5. I agree, want to try something funny?,ask your average 20-something "trucker" to define the following terms and see what the answers are....EMERYVILLE, CRACKERBOX, 2 STORY FALCON, JAPANESE FREIGHTLINER, etc. its always good for a few laughs! greybeard trucking is getting to be a more exclusive club everyday, there are so many younger drivers that have done more than me,faster, better, and with time to spare it makes me think i have done something wrong the last 30 years!...mark PROPAGATION strikes again!

OK,found all these. Searched everywhere and could not find a picture of a Propagation.

  6. Dammit Boy I have had the motherboard and power supply out of this mother, and have just got it back together. My taste's still turn toward older Iron, and tried and true southern recipes, with the exception of Rob's Road Kill Cafe. I still check out the site daily. I just haven't seen a lot that I cared to comment on. I will be here if you need me.

oh well...I didn't even know I had a motherboard. I wouldn't comment on this stupid crap I post either...like this little gem! :pat:

  7. I know Bulldog Man and Nocluejoe's status, but where in the world is Paul Van Scott?

off on a secret mission?..just busy?..or perhaps he's shunning us! Just a thought.

  8. I saw another G-model this week in Keysville,Va. sitting on a lot where they sell used trucks and log trailers. I didn't get a picture because it caught me by surprise. It was bright yellow and appeared to be restored. Thought it was an IH cabover at first because it was in between some other trucks, then I saw the grill and thought it was an H-model and was surprised to see that it was a G when I got closer.Didn't know there were any around here.

  9. Was there a "still" back there in the woods too?

that is a possibility. caught hell finding the place-couldn't see anything from the road because of the trees, and of course they had no sign or anything indicating there was a place of business back in there.

  10. Had to unload a load of dumpsters here yesterday. The only way to get in was to back in off the highway-visible all the way at the top of the picture. No problem there, and it was a straight back...until you got to the end, where I had to get around the trees and pickups and dumpsters.

The two trash trucks came in after I was already backed in. I took the mirror shot as I was leaving.
