There is a function parameters reset, similar to the learned data reset. I did not run it long enough with the 1st test ecu to see if it threw the same code, But, I just pulled an ecu off of another 2015 truck in the shop, and the miss is still there with that one.
Sooo.... For whatever reason it runs fine with a 2009 ecu, but not one with the correct year.
I'm getting ready to put a new engine brake solenoid on it. No idea why that would cause only number 4 to miss, but I'm just about out of ideas.
Compression on number 4 would have been bad if the engine brake were the issue did u check the slaves in the rockers when you did cups? I know those were and issue at times But seems kind of unrelated Maybe though! By what your describing and things you've tried it still sounds software related! How ever sequence of events maybe! Why does it run Instantly ok with the older ECU! Has to be a software issue! Don't Know ! Just trying to throw out Ideas for you! I'm not a An MP guy How ever Like to see shit get fixed! Keep us posted!

Sorry for the delay! Yes just came in today, hooked it up, and guess what! Still missing on 4!
Hooked test ecu back up, runs great. WTH.
Surely there isn't anything parameter wise that got carried over to the new ecu causing this. I'm wishing now that I would have just programed the new ecu without transferring anything at all from the old one, but too late now. Once it's programmed, that's it, can't change anything other than software updates.
Really scratching my head as to what would be different with these 2 ecus that could cause a miss on number 4.coming up empty in my head.
Oh boy !🙄 that's a real head scratcher ! Does the new ECU throw up the same code! learning at limit code? Would be nice to know what that comment means! I'm sure some guru knows something!? Is there a learned Data reset in the program for this year of truck? I haven't dealt with this stuff personally However seen it done many times! by the other guru types at our shop!

Agree ! that too! 🙄wouldn't even consider this My self! Wasn't one of Cats better Ideas!

well, since you used to be able to buy a Mack with cat engine, it is not total sacrilege.
the problem i see with the 3408 engine is availability.
Yup its as scarce as e9 if not worse! AND not as good ! They also had crank issues in my mind caused of the 60 degree throws ! If you ever seen these cranks you'll see what I mean! We pulled a few v12 Detroit's out of logging trucks here ! Retrofitted E9 ! it ran circles around the Detroit power and fuel wise and the 3408 fuel wise it had the power but the fuel economy was in the toilet! The fuel savings with the V8 payed for the retro fit in less than 3 years!

good deal, yes it could be more ''mechanic'' friendly.. glad you got it out with out damage, I forgot about the A/C lines..
Yes sir and it gets worse When the Mp engines get involved! Even changing a belt is an ordeal on these doubles the time ! They go out of there way to make things difficult! We had several Tandem Tandem Mixers here and with a body lift it makes for added frustration!

So Steeler did you find an ecu?
-
Yup Joe same here memory little vague how ever believe your on it!

The only way to check the lifters is to look from the bottom Pull the pan! If its running ok then leave it for now see what happens!

Is the 454 fully mechanical?
Nope

Did you check the bridges as you were setting the Valves? There is also a possibility that if the yokes weren't set right that the yoke stuck momentarily bending that rod! Also in checking or changing the oil before you started this up did you check for pieces on the drain plug! A lifter failure is another possible issue ! I have seen where a failed lifter flipped from an adjacent lifter to the next and caused a bent tube! Your original measurements there Are All over the place! These engines usually hold a set Very well with in 2 -3 thou! Very suspicious!

We have finally got to the bottom or top of the problem with the donor engine. It seems it has a bent lifter on #6 intake and that is why the rocker was dancing back and forward on the rocker tube. We are wondering why this could have occurred? Any thoughts? The engine ran real nice and starts immediately even with a bent push rod! We measured the gaps before adding the jake brake and that particularly one came in correct at .016.

AMI-370 with the modifications done to it (manifold, turbo, injectors, 5” exh. In my opinion! How ever the MP engine is OK but more complicated ! Emissions is what kills most new engines due to the complexity ! AI engines a for the most part straight forward ! The Ai engine you quote the emissions have been some what defeated !

That a boy you! Start Diggin Bro! 👍👌
Yup! Opps! forgot to to tell ya! Your truck has to be parked for a month till we get a new BACKORDERED whatsit for the dilithium crystal generator! ! thanx for choosing Volvo Equipment!🤣

We had one independent auto parts store here it was huge and full machine shop. All of a sudden we’re gone the last of the dying breed. Counnter help was all old guys.., so all we have left is the chain stores. Bob
Noticing this too! Our longest running machine shop closed here last month only one mom and pop shop left in town now! Sad ! They had been here since the early 60s My Dad used to use them ! The throw away society has crept up and over taken most of these places! And the walmart stand in line type places have taken over offering dollar store parts and very basic machine work or mail out style machine work!

You might lose a cup of oil by replacing that line just do it!

yes sir, it is.. and those are full re-builds, not including other engine repairs ive done like oil pumps, water pumps, heads, gasket kits, etc.
We would use the synchro kit from PAI over Mack solely for the price for 13/18 sp mack trans! Every bit as good ! we Never used PAI for Gears How ever I wouldn't hesitate if given a choice! We have a place local here quicker to deal with for gears as down time is important to most guys as well!

Yes, I have. They are super low cost! Is that what you guys here are using nowadays? My thought process is I can't afford to be cheap because it costs more typically.

Well at least your not chasing your tail now! 😪🙄
Back order ECUs Possibly suggests to me there has been issues ! Suspicious! Did you try reflashing the trucks original numbers matching ecu ? Don't think you can reflash a donor!
-
Bro ! likely is the operative word there! Grade gripper sticks You will likly get a clutch overload Code come up on the screen AND I would like to think the fuel will be dialed back momentarily But I'm Not A guru on these I just Dabbled !

yup! E7 highest HP Version of this 454 ! big change to fuel and block design> Then changed to ETECH! 460 and 460 XT> 487 hp (alleged )

Depends on who you get to do it! Like anything there are folks that are good at what they do ! And some that think there good!

Its impressive ! By the way we had A customer years ago that bobtailed his dump truck to from Vancouver Island to Oregon ! And achieved 9 MPG! E6 Super high rears 3:87 ratio I believe! We also had A customer that Achieved 7-8 mpg with a 440 V8 long haul Both these guys really worked hard at it thou ! focus was on fuel mileage!
