  1. They made alot of S/A trucks. Light duty and heavy duty top loaders. What specific model you inquiring about?
  2. DM's and U's used the same cab and nose just the front ends and rears and also the frames where different. U600 series used mainley for tractor use on highway. DM's used for heavy duty applications. U's and DM's used the same motors in most cases but different trans. U's mainley had 5spds. DM's used the ever popular 6 spd Lo Hole (twin stick). Hope that helps!
  3. I've only seen gold dogs on chrome bases. I've never seen a gold base. If you find one (not painted) then keep it. It's rare!
  4. http://www.nashuamotorexpress.com/ Its the old web site with a pic of the only CH they had! But you'll get the idea! Correction: 92 years!
  5. I will try to see if I can find one. They where red R single axles with air foils with just a white stripe diagnal on the door and foils that said NASHUA and motor express under it.
  6. I hear ya! As a kid growing up here loving Macks I loved seeing the old U's and even the R's and was happy to see them keeping it old school till the end.
  7. If that's the case remind me to never call that recovery company! WOW!
  8. My boss went to McDivitt Mack today to get some parts for our R and saw a handfull of Nashua Motor Express R's there for sale. After 95 years in buisness thay have closed due to rising regulations and fuel prices and the competition. He looked at one and said they are in great shape but are basic. No A/C 5 spds and basic interiors. They are wanting $9800 ea. Not worth it for us! So now we bid farewell to a trucking legacy in NH!
  9. Don't think it was an option they just had them on R's till the (I'm going with) mid 70's. Round tanks came about with use of aluminum (option) and steel round. U's had square up till the end :-(
  10. ^---You maybe right! Just searching my memeory bank! It's foggy!
  11. Either way! It's not a good idea! Spend the extra $$$ on the new fronts and get the lesser expencive for the drives!
  12. If I remember right the Rubber Duck type of air foil was known as the Michelin type due to the Michelin trucks having a distinct rounded look. Ive seen them around just got to go junkyard hopping!
  13. Uggg! Ya had to ask that! Very early 70's like almost 1970-73ish! I'm having a brain cramp!
  14. I'm going by the fact everything looks swept back in a way. Could be logs though. I know loggers all too well! LMAO!!!!
  15. Does it have a different motor in it or is it pedigree? Just asking because everything outside the 686's where odd combos especially with the short cut fenders and extended hoods.
  16. Nice R! I've never seen a 78 with square fuel tanks though.
  17. I've been around dump trailers long enough to know laying it over won't do that much damage. It looks like it was in motion when that occured. I've also seen roll overs that just tagged the cab but never touched the bumper or rims. It's all in how its lands and what the ground was like.
  18. The old Nashua Corp colors where a interesting blue by the way. I remember my father telling me it was a certain Chrysler blue that the owner at the time loved. It was a cross between a sky blue and a robbins egg blue
  19. The Merrimack facility is still kinda-sorta there. When it was in full opperation thats where my Father ran out of. Thats where they kept all the trucks. I might try them for s**ts and giggles!
  20. Actually in the 20 years I've been driving and the 40 years I've been around trucks and equipment, AT NO TIME are caps allowed on the steer axle. No exceptions. It is federally illegal! Tread depth is also 4/32 on the front and 2/32 on the rear.
