  1. I realize the triplex will likely be fine. Would I like something better? Yes. If something comes along I will rethink it. Once I saw the data sheet, I realize it is not such a large leap in power as I first imagined. I have a single disc clutch. Granted, not pulling 100k+ lbs but again I would like to improve it if I can. Yes, Rockwell. It came with 3.70 when I bought but that was too fast for 180 HP so I swapped it to 4.10 for no cost. Now, fast forward 10 yrs and 3.70 would have been a good choice. Without using the OD in the 6041 box, it runs 65 @1800 rpm. I would like to drop that to 1500(noise level drops drastically). The 6041 runs in direct 99.9% of the time. I only use the OD if I need to get around someone when 72 mph isn't enough with the triplex OD. I'm sure the shafts are no where critical speed. If the truck had 5.x-6.x gears I would be more concerned with that.
  2. 2" Single disc clutch. It is a composite disc, not organic. If I change clutch housing to allow a dual disc I have a flywheel and dual disc clutch to use. I found a data sheet, 315 HP, 1050 ft/lb @1400 rpm. Not really a stretch from my 237. Extra 100ft/lb but a few hundred rpm higher.
  3. Those were likely all twin countershaft boxes. This is a single countershaft. That is why I don't like it. I would like to put faster gears in truck so I could eliminate the 6041 box. 3.55? I could save 250 rpm at 65 mph(1550 instead of 1800).
  4. Depending on who you talk to is if you need 5 or 10 spds for this motor. The triplex is versatile enough I am sure it would work just fine ratio wise. I know I'm not heavy but torque is torque and I don't want to have to drive it like I have an egg under my foot. I can't use just the current 5 spd because I need OD. Or I would have to change rearend. My second thought is install the 5 spd, replace my little 6041 aux with a 1241 that would accept the torque. That would get me splits, a deep under, and an OD. The 6041 needs to be gone anyway if I install this engine. That tiny box would not like this kind of power. Could it? Maybe, but again I am not willing to accept the risk of failure someday(at the worst opportune time). I will spend money to build it right the first time. Crane at work getting engine off trailer. Removing 5 spd so I could bring it home now. Weight of transmission. 750#. Surprised me, thought it would be heavier. That includes two PTOs. I have the transmission at home. Will now get friends smaller trailer and bring engine home. I'm going to weigh the engine when I pick it up. I forgot to when I moved it, and wasn't going to resling it right then.
  5. Triplex will fit, just not sure if I will use it? May get something stronger? Yes, keeping air starter.
  6. Well, I got it home. ETAZ673, TRL107, 2 PTOs, starter, I got the fuel filter off the frame and power steering/reservoir. I am going to take it to work tomorrow and get transmission removed so I can bring them home separately so I can unload them. I don't have anything big enough as one piece! I will be trying to start it at some point when the weather warms up a bit. Odometer said 31k miles but being a pump truck it has likely many hours on it. Looks like it has newer turbo and air compressor. I doubt it will get in the truck this spring? I may do a quick rebuild with it sitting in the garage. Will see how it runs.
  7. Welcome to BMT. Looks like a great project. I would start searching online and find an air ride cutoff with 3.90 or 4.10 gears. If your lucky you can find a Ford cutoff and slip it over and bolt it on like I did on my B. I had 5ft of overlap and it works well. Depending on your location, price will vary. I paid $500 for my single axle from a local junkyard. They even offered me a choice of gear ratio for that cost. That can get you faster gearing, late model brakes, and smooth ride all in one fell swoop.
  8. Update. I got the new bushings sized today at friends shop. Worked nice. I got all the gears test fitted on the mainshaft. Fits nice! Ready for re-assembly next week.
  9. He could be into Brocks?
  10. Mack guy from NY. Drives the blue B motorhome.
  11. Kevin All had a few and was sending me a better TOB carrier. Should be here in a few days. I was going to cut my own if I had to.
  12. Yes. I already have countershaft figured out and waiting on more shims. Once I recheck, that is done. I have the mainshaft already checked and just got the shims needed for output bearings. https://i.postimg.cc/JhLFMTWm/IMG_20250114_214250671_MP.jpg
  13. I got the bushing pressed out and new ones installed. It all went easy until I tried to get first gear apart. The one that was most worn. It is apparent that the previous person lock tited it in....for good! 10 ton of pressure wouldn't move it. I had to split it twice and chisel it out in pieces. Crazy! We swiped it with the pin hone to clean it all up and pressed the new bushing in. I will go back Monday and hone the bores to size. I received my new reverse idler shaft and am waiting on my shims from Kevin All for the countershaft plate. Once that shim is checked I can then install the reverse idler gears and work on getting the main shaft assembled in the case. I have the shims for the rear output bearing and that will be ready for assembly. The rear lid is at work so I can rebush it and it will be done.
  14. I would assume Jacob would still have the valve cover spacer to make room. I thought dynatard was internal and wouldn't need the spacer. My .02
  15. I'm pretty excited about it, when it all comes together. The 237 I have runs well, but slobbers pretty bad.
  16. Seems like it is from research I found. Which is fine since I have a triplex. I think the truck, being a fleet truck, speced it with just a 5 spd. Not optimal but Mack must have okayed it. I've seen other older fleet trucks with 5,6,7 spd transmissions on cat and Cummins.
  17. Yes, the ol triplex is not really built for a 315hp Maxidyne motor of this torque rating. I don't lug the 237 down below 1500 rpm. It lets me know it's not happy with the thumping it does! I'm sure the rebuilt transmission will not make the noises it used to, but I still won't lean on it hard. I put a composite disc in it when I installed the 237. I doubt it will slip like an organic would. I hoped the disc would slip before it would hurt the transmission. Driver skill surely determines if things survive or not. I'll find out shortly when I can get the new motor. It would be handy to get it put in now since the transmission is out. It all depends if I want to rebuild it also? And my time frame as the weather gets better this spring. Today's update: Received my new bushings. Make some slugs to use to remove old/install new bushings. Worked like a charm. Just need to wash the gears up, install new bushings and then hone to size. I have last new bearing coming next week along with reverse idler shaft. All that is left is to start assembling it.
  18. I rolled this over with breaker bar and it went smoothly so that is why I bought it. Zero temperatures and lack of pieces to make it run on a whim I had to just roll it over. Oil clean, antifreeze was already drain.
  19. Yes, cab is scrap. Yard said he gets trucks from this place and typically the vac is junk and reason it is junked. Too pricey to fix an old truck. Likely can't find drivers for old stick shift truck anyhow. Once weather warms up I will try to get it started. I may get an inframe kit for it just because. Easier to work on it sitting on the ground than in the frame of my truck! I was going to rebuild the 237, but might as well go BIG.
  20. Facebook marketplace. Listed as 285. Actually 315. Etaz673. 31k miles. Was a Vacuum truck so miles are low, probably lots of hours. No problem. Looks like new turbo and air compressor. It may have had cam/lifters because side covers look like they have been resealed. Read that it is common with these engines. Looked at yesterday and will be picking it up as soon as it gets pulled. Getting 5 spd with it. That will be resold. Will be next motor for the B in the coming years.
  21. Yup, pretty sure that was at Mack Pack get together years back. Jay Barbe owns the R. He used to visit here. Really cool, period correct resto. He brought it to our Ashland show last year? 711 Triplex if I recall.
  22. -15 in Ohio. Ugh. Enjoy the heat!
  23. -15* this morning in NE Ohio. Screw this!! News said coldest calender date in 40 yrs.
  24. 😄 Oops, saw that and didn't go back to fix it. Yuns would figger it out.....
