  1. Our local Menards (home improvement chain) use to sell what they called "Handy Sand".It was washed and sized silica. But it had a warning label on it "Not For Sandblasting".Probably to escape the MSDS paperwork bullsh!t. Now the only sell "Black Blast" a more larger and more effective blasting material, made from steel mill slag.Either one,you need a mask for anyway. But yes, silicosis is a bad deal for you and your lungs.I agree.

A place that i used to work made vary large fab pieces and they put the job on top of a flat railroad car roll it outside to be blasted with that "black blast" or they called it "black beauty" vary nasty stuff by the time they were done with the job you could of filled 4 or 5 tri axle dumps with what was on the ground.

  2. So I'm guessing Mack never released any power numbers for the turbo charged 711 ?I haven't seen but 3 of them so I guess they number very few ? !Mike

I have a 711 with a turbo and been wondering the same thing. A old trucker friend of mine told me it should have between 230-250 but he's no Mack guru so there's just a idea of what it could be.

  3. It is with much pleasure that I see younger people who appreciate something that has been a passion of mine for many years. The respect for these great trucks is quite evident in many of the posts I have reviewed on BMT and the fact that people are so passionate about older Mack Trucks. The important role that Mack played in the building of not only our own country but many others around the world is largely forgotten by most people. THANKFULLY..... NOT SO FOR US MACK (nuts )or as the noun some of the more educated prefer ( aficionado's)

I am 26 and not a lot of people I know understand why I got into this hobby. I always liked Mack trucks and one day I was looking at pictures on the internet and seen how many people were into old Macks and restoring these old.trucks, that I decided to join in on the fun. Your right in saying people don't understand how big a part Mack played in building this country like the Bethlehem steel did. Once again I thank Barry and the other bmt members that make this site possible for us younger generations to get involved with this hobby.

  4. Well guys the way I'm looking at it is if I pull up a picture on my smart phone and hold my finger on the screen and it let's me save the image that's there own problem,I did try to save some and my phone wouldn't let me do it so no big deal. For those of you that have these phones know that now most of them you can take a screen shot of anything that's on your screen, they should not blame us they should blame technology lol .

Thank you Barry your response was perfect like the other guys said. Since I'm not a truck driver and I'm a younger guy I wouldn't be able to really get into this hobby without the support of this form and its members and the pictures they post.

When my parents both died a few years ago, my sister and I inherited their house. It's always been in what was a nice area. Oleg Cassini's daughter across the street, a horse farm that has been there since 1930 and two nosy neighbors. about 100 feet away..both retired FDNY. My retired sister lives there with the deal that she pays the bills and we split the taxes and insurance and I get the garage for my use. It's a poured concrete 25 x 30 building with a 50's heavy garage door and no windows. It's also alarmed as is the house. My sister calls me to say the lock was cut out of the door and the garage as robbed. They had to take time to remove 2 M-21 4 speeds, a pair 426 Max Wedge engines from C class racing fire truck and a fully disassembled 392 Hemi with Aires pistons and aluminum rods, a single and a dual intake both with Holley 1050 carbs, 2 sets of heads, all the tin, headers and adapters to run it in a '50 Ford F5 truck. The thieves left 2 Chevy big blocks and a warmed over 302. Aside from the missing engines and the lock cut out you would never know they were there. And nobody saw or heard a thing!! Think I surprised the NCPD when I handed them serial numbers for the engines and carbs, copies of the bills for the parts and photos of the engines and parts. How quickly it changed from someone taking them for scrap (?) to a much more serious crime wothy of finger prints and a detective. Paul
Hi Paul the first place you should look is Craigslist, most people are dumb enough to put stuff on there they just stole. I'll bet if you dig hard enough you will find at least one thing on there. Good luck

  7. I drove an MB flatbed when I was YOUNG. Steering wasn't too bad...as long as you could get up on the wheel and run around it like a squirrel in a cage!

Our mb pumper steers quite well, it dose have one heck of a tight steering radious though.

  9. When did the allentown plant come about. I worked for a company that had a building that was part of Mack at one time and I seen a picture of it from the 40s judging by the cars sitting around now this company I was working for was the former GATX fuller company and the Mack machine shop was next to it. I was told this little building was bought by fuller in the late 60s or early 70s and that the first Mack trucks that were built in allentown came out of there. I was also told.that at the time of fuller buying the building Mack had some small musieum there.
