  1. I think the only way that thing would look better would be if it was sitting in my driveway.
  2. I'll bet you'll be very happy with the results. Keep us posted!
  3. I will try to find some instructions tonight in a couple of different books I have at home. If I can remember to look. I don't think there was any adjustment in the pressure plate. Seems like a cam plate and a threaded rod were the adjustment points. You wouldn't happen to know if this is a single or a double disc, would you? Double disc had shims under the pressure plate that had to be taken out to regain clearance as the plates wore. When a new set were put in, it was important to remember to put the shims back in.
  4. Volt meter on my R600 was grounded through the case (1-wire gauge). So, I had to get a different, 2-wire gauge so I could reverse the polarity at the gauge. It had insulaotr bushings to separate the metal case from the dash. My fuel gauge did not work. But, I don't know if that was related to the system being changed or not. I just checked it with a dipstick! Oil pressure gauge was a manual gauge (copper tube), so that was not an issue. Temp gauge worked, but I can't say what all had been changed there. Did I mention already how happy I am that you are here now?!
  5. I don't remember the flasher caring about polarity. But, I have been wrong at least twice today already.
  6. The PS box in my R had a axial valve setup instead of a radial valve. When turning the wheel with the engine off, you could see the shaft move up and down in the box. Hardly noticeable when the engine was running, though. Oil was engine oil. Can't remember whose box that was.
  7. I wondered if it was an old dash. I much prefer them to the plastic dash of the later models. You lucky dog!
  8. Sounds like you're just a smooooothe operator!
  9. Looks to me like it fit perfect. I just don't see the problem. Any more empty space would just be a waste. Might have even been room on there for a beer can.
  10. It's possible that bolt may have been replaced with a softer bolt at some time (like an 8.8). That could explain why it broke and the others did not. I think you're gonna be okay.
  11. Just an FYI on 6V starters running on 12V... Used to build dune buggies out of VW Beetles. Sometimes ended up with a combination of parts that left us with a 12V system running a 6V starter. Never recall seeing a 6V starter fail from running on 12V. Ever.
  12. I love this thread! You are exemplifying one of my core philosophies. "Not knowing you can't do something is sometimes your greatest tool." You remind me of how it was when I grew up. We didn't have the internet or forums. Hell, we were lucky if we had any type of manual to look at. But, that never stopped us from taking things apart, figuring them out, and putting them back together. You just have to pay attention to what is going on, make mental notes, learn from the things that didn't go exactly as planned, and keep on keepin'-on. With your abilities, creativity, and attitude, and a little guidance from the pros on here, you'll be hauling s#!t again in no time! Keep up the great work!
  13. This one seems to fit... "If you jack up one side of your above-ground pool to create a "deep end"..."
