The input shaft has decided to break in my steering box, it broke even with the top of the box. I was wondering if parts are still available for this box and where to get them. It says Ross hydropower, the casting numbert is HF642884 and the stamped in number is HF64114. Anybody know anything about these. Thanks

Hi Meado. The box number is HF642884 and the series is an HF64. Google Pro Steering, Steering Specialists, and a number of others. Most of the input shafts were the same on thos Ross boxes just the orientation, and mountings were different.

I've never purchased an input shaft for one but they usually cost about $420.00 to get totally rebuilt plus freight with either of those two companies.

The HF64 series is rated to a 12,000# steer axle.

Normally a good box but prone to leakage from what I've experienced.

Paul is correct in his post with the lead time. While either rebuilder will get it done in two days or less, they are both located in the western part of the country. Transit time would be much greater than the actual rebuild time.

Hi Grant, they were a weak link in the gearbox. I've seen several broken, but always replaced the complete gear assy with salvage parts as they used to be very common.

The black :mack1: in the avatar is mine but good lookling is a bit much. Maybe I can get so pics of my trucks in a few days. As for the steering shaft I don't know why it broke but it is a good thing it happened a 1 mph leaving the pit and not 55 on the highway. Thanks for all the help and info.

I've only replaced one where the driver was actually on the road driving. He slid on ice at a "T" intersection, and drove across railroad tracks without a crossing unable to stop. The others have been snapped off when initiating a turn with a heavy load on at very low speed as in leaving a pit.
