I have a 2005 Mack ch600 truck with a e7 that has the air operated vgt turbo. Truck came in with egr codes and turbo speed code. Flash code 6-2 egr got deleted but still can’t get rid of turbo code. Replace speed sensor and checked wiring and replaced ecm still not working. Any ideas would help a bunch

Did you look inside the speed sensor hole while turning the propellar to look for damage, or soot? I havent been in one of these is many years. I have the V-MAC III book, so later on I can look at the flow chart for a 6-2 code.

So investigate this! On startup turn the key on observe the pistion on the VGT !  Is the vgt doing its self check? Is it going full stroke ? If it does not stroke out both directions it may be that the vanes are sticking and not allowing the turbo to regulate properly!

I would think so,  but.... I would need to look at it, to be sure that the sensor is inserted in a dry area.  I dont remember an oring on it, with that said it should be a dry area.. what say you?

One thing I know for sure is that if the turbo is passing oil into the compressor volute, you are buying time before the engine runs away...

Oil sludge is common on the intake side of the turbo. This is caused by not changing the air filter soon enough. The air compressor gets its fresh air from the pipe between the air filter housing and the turbocharger, when the air filter is dirty the suction from the turbo impeller will pull oil past the air compressor rings and it will settle and turn to sludge in the intake side of turbocharger. There are some bulletins on fixing the problem with a check valve and special hose on the air compressor intake piping. The fault code for the turbo wheel speed was an open circuit code so the engine ECM is not seeing a signal from the speed sensor. Usually a bad sensor or wiring between sensor and ECM. Test 4 in what Joey Mack posted would tell if it’s the sensor. Only weird this I ever saw was the turbo impeller shaft broke between the bearing and you could turn the intake impeller one way and the exhaust the other way.
