Mack CB radio?

So, how many of us remember people from back when. Do you remember them by name or CB handle? l do better with a handle vs a name. When we were at the National Truck show in Lexington Kentucky 5-6 years ago. A guy came up and stood beside me looking at my sons truck. l asked him if he was ever in Nashua NH and drove for Coke Cola on Rt101A? He looked at me like WTF, when he answered yes l asked if his handle was "Loose Caboose"? He grinned and asked my name which he didn't remember. But when l said "Kamikaze Pick-up" he remembered me as if it was yesterday. But it had been well over thirty five years or more since l had spoken to him. Some people l never knew their real names!  lol    .....Hippy

Same here, bud I only knew them by their handle and some of the fellows through the years I talked to for a number of years and never saw them. I’m sure you got the same stories. You know how it goes. Same truck coming at  you at the same time every night.

How many had their own chicken lights on the mirror in combination with the antenna mounts. Some had lights in the windshield or on the air foil some how or other.    Back when it was fun!    .....Hippy

Yes, back when it was fun hell, I forgot about that. Yes, I used to run 2  Amber lights on top of my CB for ID.

Speaking of the old days that old buddy of mine just messaged me a little while ago from ESTES  I used to run with. He was pretty good at keeping in touch

Growing up a friend lived a block over had a big base station.  Cobra 139 with a VFO, a Varmint 850 watt linear and Moonraker beams.  We'd stay up all Friday or Saturday night talking all over the place.  His mom worked nights/dad divorced, so we had no one to watch us.  I bought my first base from him, Navaho 23 ch that had been tuned up.  It would push that Varmint harder then his Cobra.  I put a Starduster ground plane on the roof and we had fun.  Back then the neighbors would let me know if we were breaking into their TV shows.  😆. No cable back then and neighbors TV antenna was pointed directly north into my antenna.

The Navaho died about 15 yrs ago and I found a President Madison and bought it.  Don't really use it anymore.  I have Unidens in my trucks.  A 66 and a 68.  I do have an old Realistic 23 channel radio-fone.  I thought they were cool growing up so I found it on eBay for a few bucks and bought it.  The plug is worn and headset won't stay plugged in tight, I tried to use it in the Mack but took it out.

Sad their is not many talkers anymore.

Yes, it is. Sad truck stops pretty much the same shit these days Larry nobody even looks at you when you walk through there nobody talks anymore and yes, I also had a realistic 23 side band. I forgot all about that thing. It was many many years ago.

I had a President base station at home.I cant remember the model but it had 240 channels.I used to do some skip talking and got and sent QSL cards all over Europe.I used a BIG STICK antanna.It caused a lot of TV interfearence.Back then all the TV channels in Ireland (there were only 6 channels)shut down around midnight so I could only use it into the small hours...Happy days indeed...

i remenber when i was very young maybe 6-10 someone had something that used to screw with our TV occasionally,,,,im sure it was probably a ham radio broadcasting in my area,,,,that used to be a thing back when,,,,pretty common practice for lotsa folks,,bob

Never driven a semi, but I bought a used Cobra 29 LTD from a yard sale for dirt cheap, and got a truck stop special whip antenna and cable job; mounted the antenna to my crossover box like the previous owner of the box had. Ended up taking the radio to a shop in Knoxville, TN while on a trip since it wasn't working, and got a new mike and tune up. Felt like a real man driving out of the truck stop the shop was in and hitting it up for a radio check, and getting several checks back. 

I never really used it a whole lot, and the whip got old since I was dragging it in the drive thru line, but it did come in handy on one trip down the I40 gorge to TN. A trooper had pulled a rig just to use his radio trying to redirect traffic away from 40 because a massive hole had opened up on a bridge. I was too far from 77 to jump up that way, so I got sent on a backroads journey through rural Appalachia that to this day I have no clue where I actually was! GPS wasn't working worth a darn, and of course I don't have a physical map, so I just used my noggin and got to TN without I40 lol. The CB quit working years ago now, I've been wanting to redo the setup now I have a different truck and a greater appreciation for trucking, maybe I'll add it to my ever-increasing list of things to do.

How bout a radio check!  It's in the mail! - Give me a five count! 1,2,3,4,5,5,4,3,2,1  OK your 1s 3s and 5s are good but the 2s and 4s are a little weak!    .....Hippy

I tell you what Larry, you buy that radio and I'll sell you these!  Notice the coax end of the antenna's. The old style. They were this dusty when I bought them about 25 years ago.

I think they used to call those top loads … I bought a cheap truck stop 4 ft along time ago and people could hear me all over the place with that thing… used it around 6 years … until I retired…. Bob
