Hi Everybody,

Nearing completion of my Mack Quantum  (photos to follow) and took all the airbags off to check them carefully.  Sadly all are in need of replacement.

Given the huge difference of price in brands of airbags i wanted to know the following:

1. Do brands matter for reliability? if so which are the best?

2. Do brands matter for comfort? if so which is the best?

3. Are the chinese ones any good?

4. Best place to get a deal for airbags in Australia?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I have had some really old (30 year?) Firestone bags. There are too many variables to know why they lasted.  Like tires they are subject to UV and Ozone damage.

Comfort/ride quality is determined by the design of the suspension not the air bag itself. The rolling lobe type that Hendrickson used is a good design, the "bell" shaped piston increases area as the the bag compresses. The Hendrickson splits the load between the Z spring and the bag. The bag does better are smaller high frequency bumps and the spring handles the large "swells" in the road. That is what made that design so popular.

The last two question I have no knowledge to share.

U could play off the price difference between the 'U Bute' truck & Trailer parts uppliers

MultiSpares

https://www.multispares.com.au/

Souther Cross Truck & Trailer Spares

https://sctegparts.com.au/

Truckline

https://shop.truckline.com.au/

If U deal direct with china like Alibaba U need numbers off the Air Bag etc and plenty of patience

https://www.alibaba.com/

Main two things i want to know is weather there are better or worse airbags for ride and longevity and weather the chinese ones are any worse then the much more expensive brand name ones from others experience.  So far all the truckers i know who i spoke to just go and buy whatever a shop has and do zero comparison

Probly compare quality just like tyres/tires

Thus i am here asking for others experience.  suppliers wont let me cut their airbags open to see and externally rubber looks like rubber and asking someone who sells a product now days is like asking a salesman in a car yard as to which car is best......obviously he will tell you that the one he wants to sell is best.  Also truckies seem to not compare and just buy whatever so asking the ones i know was pointless.'
