Popular Post Mdmccurr Posted Monday at 01:27 AM Popular Post Share Posted Monday at 01:27 AM Hello all, I am restoring a 1975 F Model Daycab and having a headache with parts availability for the front 4 inch brake shoes. The truck has 16.5 inch Dayton Rims and the original brake shoes were the old "P-style" shoes that have a ring at one end. Watts Mack said the shoes are no longer available from Mack. Aftermarket Meritor Part Number is 4549P. I was able to obtain 3 shoes from Haladex but it appears that the 4 inch linings needed to remanufacture the shoes are out of production and not available anymore. Obviously, I need 4 shoes to complete the job. I do have 1 newly remanufactured Q style shoe with the open hook at the end, Part Number 4549Q but it takes a different anchor pin and I am worried about mixing different shoes on the same axle. The 4'' Q style shoes also seem to be out of production. I need to get this truck back on the road so I can continue the restoration. Has anyone encountered this issue or have any of these old P style shoes that I can buy? Any technical expertise in this area on whether it is okay to mix the P style and Q style on the same axle? I much prefer the pin shoes on the narrow steer brakes. My Brockway front shoes were NLA, and these guys relined them for me. Did a nice job, and good prices.
