Does anyone know what this rectangular box is at the base of my Zenith Carb. there is a copper tube that runs down to the exhaust manifold. I was wondering if it was some kind of automatic choke valve.... once the motor heats up maybe a spring or something opens in base of Carb???

Thats a carb heater between carb base and intake. Prevents icing during warm up and fuel puddling during extended idling (keeps the fuel vaporized) Ford and some Mopars ran engine coolant threough a spacer plate to do the same thing

The "box" off to the side could be a governor considering the provision for the use of a wire seal.  The governor I have worked on had plugs that had to be removed to get to the adjustment screws.  The adjustment screws on yours are probably under the plate.

As Paul said, there is a provisions to get some heat to the carb so it won't freeze during operation.  Some exhaust manifolds have an adjustable plate to regulate the heat that reaches the bottom of the intake.

It doesn't cost anything to pay attention.
