END673 Engine Brake

Recommended Posts

Yes, there is a brake.  I just put a Jacob brake on my ENDT675(237).   Same thing as non turbo 673(all 2 valve motors).   You can get parts for them, though some pieces are NLA for early engines(like my 237).  It can very pricey to gather the parts up.   I got my jakes from a fellow on BMT and got rebuild kits from local Mack dealer.

I remember Barry selling TecBrakes?  (same as Jacob), but can't find anything about them.   He sent me the file with all the information years ago, but can't seem to find it right now.

I've heard that a jake on a Mack is marginal, but after just playing around with mine last week for the first time...it works pretty well.  I can't wait to put a trailer behind it next month.

I just put a jake on my 673 no turbo engine last week. I took it from a B61 with a  turbo 673 that I bought for parts. The jake extensions raised the valve covers about two inches. I haven't taken my B53 out for a test drive yet but I did drive the parts truck and I thought it held back very well. The parts truck also had a Williams exhaust brake but I did not try it on the way home.

A B53 is a short hood like my B67 with the doghouse in the cab isn't it?

No. A B-53 has the same hood  a B-61. A B-57 has the short hood like the B-67.  Al

Hmmmm?   I bet that would give my truck a real bark through its 2 big stacks.     How much did it raise your valve cover?   Not much room with mine wedged 1/3rd of the way under the cab.

My straight pipes are 4".  It sounds nice, but can't say what it sounds like passing on the road.
