Walt1967 Posted March 19, 2015 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Looking at a 1990 mack superliner.truck has 400 mack motor recently overhauled, 13 speed, 44 rears.question is will this motor stand up to hauling heavy,160000 gross.it is a michigan special. dds92780 Posted March 19, 2015 Share Posted March 19, 2015 It should handle that but you might want a bigger turbo and injectors. The bottom end is pretty damn strong on these things though. Being that its a 90 im guessing its the e7400 mechanical which is the best engine mack made and most sought after from what i know, plus it has the best mechanical pump you can get. ( is the pump number 0 402 746 852? ) So to answer your question, if you get a bigger turbo and injectors and play with that pump, it should be able to handle 550 plus and get you hauling the heavy loads you are looking at. oldsuperdog Posted April 19, 2015 Share Posted April 19, 2015 What kind of 13 speed? Eaton or Mack? I know with the Mack 13 you can cut the tab in the shifter knob that prevents you from slitting the low range and make it so you can split the bottom gears giving you an "18 speed". 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
