King pin bushing question

The mechanic that work on my truck says that we need to adjust the thrust on the driver side king pin, (small play 1/8th) but the adjustement nuts looks pretty rusted, he says not to heat it too much cause de bushings are nylon made and might melt , is that right ? I was sure they were brass .

So I want to go the safe way before going any further , he wants to remove the wheel the brake booster to have sapce to work on and even redo the whole king pin , I said wait a sec I want to think a bit .

any one with any idea trics else ??

on the bottom take out the big cotterpin and tighten the x nut, can use a little heat on it, the bottom bearing has balls in it and it pushes the king pin up. too tight and it will steer hard. go enough to get the pin back in. You can do this for a liitle play, you have to remove the brake assembly and hub to get the x socket to clear.
