Once the wheel and tire is off can I just unbolt the spokes from the hub or is ther something I should know? It just looks like they would come right off. jakebrake86 Posted November 28, 2012 Share Posted November 28, 2012 On the front, pull the hub cap, then there should be a carter key and a slotted spindle nut. Pull them off, then the inner and outer bearing and the hub/brake drum assembly should slide off. On the back, pull the axle. There should be a large axle nut and a series of lock rings, other than that it's pretty much the same as the front. Be sure and have the brakes backed off, and it doesn't hurt to have an extra set of hands around to help you handle the hubs. jakebrake86 Posted November 28, 2012 Share Posted November 28, 2012 Yes sir. The drum is bolted to the back side of the hub. The spokes and the hub are one and the same. It's not a bad idea to pull them if you haven't already to check and pack your bearings. Vladislav Posted November 29, 2012 Share Posted November 29, 2012 That's you are going to do.If plan to sandblast hubs wash all the grease off from the bearing cavit.I saved a time not dismounting outer bearing cones but had to remove them after blasting.Sand fixed up on a grease that came from little canals behind the cones so I needed to wash the hubs again. The powder coating is a bit&h to remove so you can install nuts or bolts. I learned that the hard way on my AC rear axle and trans-axle assemblies.
