New dump truck?

It seems wrong to even call this Mitsubishi a dump truck - but it is a truck and the bed dumps

These jay-pan trucks have a different frame width than normal. They are only 29 3/4 inches wide versus 34 inches. I had a good used flatbed I wanted to mount, but I first had to move the main frame rails in on both sides and reweld in place.

Then I got a wild hair and decided to put a hoist under it, so I took one off a wrecked truck that had a nice hoist and subframe for "easy" mounting. Well, I found out I also had to narrow the subframe, cut two inches off each side of the hoist, and then reweld the whole thing. I used a 12 volt hydraulic pump off another truck. It turned out pretty well.

Now I just need to paint it and install my new fancy schmancy wheel simulators and it will be all pimped out and ready to go to Texas and help move 300,000,000 yards of dirt in a month? Can it keep up with its older brothers?

Looks like a toy.

When it breaks the frame rails just behind the cab, (about four inches) he will also think it's a toy.

Fishplate it now before use.

The last time I was in texas, I made the mistake of going to the shiner bock brewery and I needed a truck like this to haul the empty beer bottles I drank home. My head still hurts when I think about it. I also got a headache from looking at ugly mexican crossbreed cattle!

I think I can safely say that no one has ever taken a look at me and thought I was that "kinda" guy!

I bet David in N.C. can say the same thing.

There are no gay Davids on this site, I repeat; there are NO gay Davids on this site.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just got home with this Mitsubishi from her maiden trip - poor little ugly Jay-pan truck worked like a champ. I drove it 360 miles to pick up five bucket truck booms I bought and Monday I head back to get five more. It did not use any oil, and has yet to give any trouble.

It sure is not a Mack - your foot is on the floor the whole time when loaded and it does not have any "lug" whatsoever.

One of my in-house brain surgeons saw it pull in yesterday and he said we looked like something that should be driving in the Sudan or somewhere.

But at least I have not bent the frame yet!
