The company owner was driving.

I thought this would be a simple wreck or roll over but dam! He derailed a train! If the gates failed then I feel real bad for him. If he was being a moron and trying to beat the train then its his own fault and paid for it dearly.

Looks to me like he didn't have the spacers in the gooseneck and the trailer got hung up on the tracks because it didn't have enough clearance. Once that happens you're pretty much screwed if a train approaches before you have time to put the PTO in gear and get out there and use the hydraulics to jack up the trailer and get unstuck.

Hre's another story on it with 58 photos taken by a photography student who just happened to be stuck in traffic there when it happened:

The driver was indeed trying to get it off the tracks, but blew the driveshaft out of the tractor.

BACK IN THE 90'S DEWITT CONCRETE ORDERED A BRAND NEW CEDAR RAPIDS JAW CRUSHER. WHEN THE TRUCKER WAS ON HIS WAY HE WAS DETOURED BY A LOCAL SHERIFF. HE TOOK A BACK ROAD AND STUCK THE TRAILER MOUNTED CRUSHER ON THE CROSSING. A FREIGHT TRAIN NAILED THE UNIT, BROKE THE CRUSHER FROM THE TRALER, THROWING THE CRUSHER 20 FT. IN THE AIR AND LANDING ON THE NEXT RAIL BENDIND THAT ALL UP.THE TRAILER NECK STAYED ON THE TRUCK, SPUN AROUND AND PUT A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK. THE PONY MOTOR WAS THROWN 300 FT. BEHIND A HOUSE. THE ENGINE STOPPED OVER A HALF MILE DOWN THE TRACK, BUT DIDNT DERAIL.THEY FIGURED THAT JUST THE JAW CRUSHER ASSM. WEIGHT WAS 20 TON NOT INCLUDING THE REST OF IT AND THE TRAILER. THEY HAD TO ROLL THE CRUSHER TO THE SIDE OF THE RAIL BED AND WAIT 2 DAYS TO HAVE A CRANE THAT COULD PICK IT. AMAZING HOW AN 1 1/2 BOLT CAN BE SNAPPED OFF CLEAN.

ALSO LOOKS LIKE A NEW BLACKTOP GRADE CROSSING, MAYBE HE RAN THAT ROUTE ALL THE TIME BUT THE RAILROAD CHANGED THE HEIGHT OF THE CROSSING AND THAT WAS THE CAUSE. GG2

Anyone notice the name on the door of that truck...?? "Hazard" Appears to be one in that case.

Ever wonder how a blind person knows when to stop wiping?
