  1. Thanks for the pics. Can't wait to show these to Shorty.
  2. Love that 80 R..!! Looks like a 350 with the tip turbine charge air cooler. Love, love, love that setup..! The best pullin' 350 I ever drove was one of these. (It was an 80 R model I bought new and was stolen from me in '88) thanks for the pics...!!
  3. These pics are west bound I-24 Monteagle MT. in TN, on the down hill side. This banked curve has taken its' toll on several long, top-heavy loads. I personally have worked two bridge beam failures with my cranes and this large propane tank with my 120 ton a year ago. The dolly on this tank is similar to the dolly in the video. You can see the dolly on top..it's supposed to be on the bottom..!! The pivoting bolster on a lowboy was ripped entirely from the trailer which saved the truck from turning over with it. When we got this rolled back upright, they refilled the pony motor with fuel and oil, started on down the mountain. We all held our breath as the left side wheels actually came completely off the pavement almost turned over again..!! The dolly operator quickly steered the tail left, which put the tank and tractor in "skew" angle that let it settle back.
  4. After viewing the video otherdog, was I close in my assessment of what happened? I've never pulled 'em, but I've lifted a hundred of 'em over the years with my cranes. Watched the steerables in lots of nasty situations.!!
  5. You're right, there is room, but I would still have an 11' box..! Your truck needs to stay just like it is except with a new owner so you can get that Granite..! Looks like your R690 has 25K rear end, is it? Somebody up there needs to jump on this deal. Wouldn't take that for mine..!! Here is a pic of my R single axle dump. I like it.!
  6. Yeah, I wanted to holler "Pay attention BC.!" Thought you might think I was being a butt, so I didn't..!!
  7. BC , this is the truck that 85snowdog refers to. Supposed to be $32K the asking price. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/36454-1977-mack-v8-e9-r735st1010/
  8. I'm in...!! I've been E9'n longer than I've been Email'n and Ebay'n..!!
  9. I agree...but.... I just can't see my name on a check for $32K..!!
  10. Wish it had 44's under it. Just what I'm lookin' for otherwise..!!
  11. You have to look close. The bridge is under repair. The construction crews have lined both sides of the traffic lanes with concrete "jersey" barriers. This gives them the protection they need to work on the bridge. This has reduced the width of the highway to traffic lanes only, no shoulder. By federal construction guidelines, the "jersey" barriers must be accompanied by energy absorbing crash cushions (called impact attenuators) at their ends. The cushions are visible, left and right. Watch the truck tires line up on the center line going straight ahead. At the same time the right side dolly wheels settle in straddling the shoulder white stripe. Someone was asleep at the controls..! The dolly tires then strike the crash cushion. The cushion performs exactly as intended as it "accordions" to a fourth of its original length. What appears to be a curb, after the crash, are the rails that guide the collapsing components of the crash cushion. There ya go..!!
  12. Slpwlkr, the dolly is definitely steerable. You can see the hydraulic cylinder that does it. The sun is gleaming off the rod on the cylinder. The oversize load sign is draped around the pony motor box. The dolly was steered to the right to make the left turn and had not fully repositioned to straight forward.
  13. If someone has already posted this, I apologize. If the link does not show it is because I cannot copy and paste on this forum. Search "truck carrying huge beam". I think the escort controls (wirelessly) the steerable dolly. The truck driver controls the throttle and his rear view mirrors. Looks like enough blame to go around. Dolly hits cushion rails at the end of the row of Jersey barriers. BOOM..!! http://youtu.be/7dQYbCaxZPA
  14. I am beginning to wonder about the validity of the engine codes or about my ability to comprehend them. My 1989 Superliner is designated RW713. I bought it new. I still have every single document that a customer could get with a new truck, including the build sheets, a copy of the MSO, MSRP price sheets, etc..! Every single doc refers to my truck as RW713. Even the MSO says 6 cyl. It is an E9-500...!!
  15. AC stuff can be very hard to figure out, least for me. The high pressure switch is kicking out the comp. The expansion valve could be restricted. Doubt if anybody on this forum could accurately diagnose AC problems without having the truck in front of them. All AC systems function the same basic way so find a buddy that works on car AC, has the right tools and is good at it. That'll be your best shot.
  16. Thanks for the compliment..! The loader backhoe is missing because they have tires on them..!! After 40 years changing flats on the cranes that I owned, I wanted nothing but tracks.!! Wish my Superliner and lowboys had tracks...LOL..!!
  17. I'll pass on the hauling salt on purpose..!! Can't imagine the distress and high blood pressure that would result.!!
  18. I have owned it for 11 months and the hour meter is showing 11 hours. Most of them was the Deere dealer walking it in and out of the shop installing the screens and sweeps..!! I have worked the other machines more tho'..!!
  19. I sold all my cranes last year after spending 40 years building the business. To keep the Tax Man from getting half of the sale, I took this package of new Deere machines as partial trade. I hope these will help me pay my insurance and cell phone bills in my golden years. The other pic is the only "paying" job I've done with the 700K so far. Sweet dozer..!
  20. The culprit SALT..! I hate it. My throat starts swelling shut every time I see a salt truck in the winter. SALT...! It is why our bridges are falling down. It penetrates the pores of concrete and ruins the rebar. That is why you see the rails of double frame trucks swelling like a road kill 'possum in August..! Thank goodness I live in TN where only a few thousand tons are used every winter..! Your RGN is the victim of SALT. !
  21. According to our engine codes list the 35 designates ET1005 Thermodyne V8..! Rare I would think. Sure would like to know production numbers on this motor.
  22. Here he is..! William "Shorty" Crawford. The nickname must have stuck from bein' a 12 yr old workin' around the McCord shops, because he ain't short..! I had to get some parts in Nashville a couple days ago, stopped and visited with Shorty for a little while. I mentioned the show in Cortland he snapped "I been there.!". I said: "Really?" He said: "Yeah, I flew in to NY, got a cab to Cortland an' drove it (the 761) home from the factory when they got it built, didn' want nobody else in it.!". I took this pic of him standing by what's left of the Autocar that was supposed to get the Cat 3408. It wound up gettin' the 92 out of the Brockway. Shorty said the 3408 has never been cracked open. Also is a pic of one of the "Jimmys" that was assigned to all the "normal" hauling. Also worth noting, the 761 was yellow with black fenders from the factory.
  23. I gotta add my Superdog to this thread..! First pic is the third load I ever pulled with it taken in April 1989. The second pic is a load I pulled last week July 2014..! Bought it new. E9-500, 15 spd. Check out more pics and info in my topic "Me and my Superliner celebrating 25yrs"
