I had a look at the truck today. It has a 230 hp cat 3126, 6spd synchromesh trans (no tach), power tailgate that works perfect, all we need is a key and we'll see how it runs. It will probably need a w/s for safety. We are probably going to register it as an RV.

I'll start this off... I heard about a guy who hauled 27200 kgs (60,000 lbs) gross in a CH Tandem... Tare is 9800 kgs (21500 lbs) on those.

I got an email from a buddy this morning... There's a Freightliner at the Police auction. I said I wouldn't be going but if he went, I'd split the Freightliner with him to haul our race car. Needless to say, we bought it for roughly 1/2 what our max lowball bid was going to be. I haven't seen it yet but it has a 24' van, power tailgate, Cat 175 hp 3126 engine, standard trans, air brakes, and is a 2000 with 326,000 kms on it. I have no idea what gearing it has, nor have I heard it run or driven it yet. We plan to gt it safety'd, install some tie downs, and modify the tailgate to lift he race car. Does anybody know what these are like? What would this be like on the highway? Am I allowed to wear my Mack shirt when I drive this?

I am not sure that my rear axle weights are equal with air suspension. Driving onto the scale at the pit, it seems like the middle axle has a lot more weight than the rear axle. Is this normal?

Kamaz make the Dakar trucks. The Russians are über proud of the Kamaz trucks. Compared to my old Unimog, the Kamaz was pretty crappy.

I am surprised you never got in trouble from one of the guys with he big hats and shiny boots for taking this photo. I took a similar photo in Nihznevartosk as I was getting off a flight from Moscow a few years ago and got in trouble. I will post some photos of Russian Oilfield trucks tomorrow if I think of it. I drove a brand new Kamaz when I was there... Neat truck but what a POS...

Why not consider an 18 speed? You don't need to use 'em all. Running empty, I use the cheater gear and high range only. With a load, I usually start in 3rd and only split in high range.

This is how my truck is. I never use the blue nob but it did have a slight leak so I decided to fix it. I guess if I put a spring in it, I have to use it. If I leave the spring out, I can just use the yellow knob.

Is the tractor park valve supposed to be spring loaded? Mine had a slight leak so I bought a new valve to replace it. Unfortunately, the dealer gave me a trailer supply valve. I took both valves apart and used the o-rings and disk from the new tractor supply valve to fix my tractor park valve. I think some genius may have tried to fis my tractor park valve before with aviation form a gasket.

You need to have these each on their own plug. If they are 1000W each, this means that you are drawing 8.3 amps each, 16.7 amps for the 2 if they are on the same circuit. This should be ok, right? How long is the extension cord between the wall socket and the truck? If it is 100', you have the potential to draw more current and you trip your breaker. Your best be is to shorten up the extension cord or run 2 cords and split up the block heaters to 2 seperate plugs.

One of my neighbors is well into his 80s too and still hauls gravel with his early 80s GMC brigadeir. He sold a 1/4 section a few years ago for over a million so he doesn't need to drive the old gravel truck. He says the day he stops is he day he dies. Here's an interesting story. Sorry to hijack. I have a 95 Ch613 with air susp. It was a converted day cab tractor. It hauled bulk (oil) before being converted. My truck's gvw is 24600 kgs (54120 lbs) and the rare is 9800 kgs (21560 lbs) if full of fuel. It is a heavy spec truck but not double framed. The running gear is all Mack (E7 427, 18 spd, not sure of the gear ratio but it cruises at 60mph at 1600 in top gear). What is wrong with this set up? I bought the truck for building a road on my farm. So far, I have hauled in 26 loads of clay. When the box is full, it is right on the gvw. So far everything seems ok. The truck has had the gravel box on for about 10 years.

I had a very similar problem with my unimog a few years ago... It would run out of fuel and suck air in through the priming pump. The problem? A previous owner had used cheapo fuel tank patch compound that you pour in the tank and then roll around in the tank. The crap was coming off and would make a flat slab that would cover up the fuel intake line in the tank (an accidental check valve). The thing would always plug up at he wrong time.

I hooked the sensor back up again yesterday and everything is ok so far.

I had a good look at it yesterday with 14000 kegs on it. The 2 rear bags are definitely different and the one on the right is definitely longer under load by maybe .500 - .750". I think this is my issue.

The truck has air suspension in the rear. It was a converted day cab truck. I will get some photos of the suspension setup.

I know that I need to air down my suspension while unloading but do I need to air down the. Suspension while loading the box on my gravel truck? The pit I am hauling from has a 6 yard bucket on their loader.

When my truck is empty, the steering wheel is straight as I go down the highway. When the. Truck is loaded, it. Is. At about 1:00 when I go down the highway. My throught is that I might have a mismatched air bag - what are your thoughts? Is this something I need to worry about? There is no play in the steering and the truck was recently cvip'd. The truck does not pull to the left.
