  1. I thought I read in several places on here that an R model steering wheel would fit a B model... I saw this on EBay, the seller says it was bought for his B , but wouldnt fit, any thoughts?

  3. No Macks until the last ten minutes! THey had a guy (a lot of you may know him), had a giant building FULL of old macks...went right down the history of all the models...skipped right over the B models!!!!! Rob will be happy he spent some time and showed some R models...

  5. The one at oldMacks.com looked to me like it was in pretty good shape...it was $5000 last September...I climbed up in the cab when I looked at the B model that I bought...It is still on his website...shoot him an email...
  6. Where do you sleep when you go to shows? Those without sleepers? Take Lititz for example, I didnt notice any tents around? If you stay at a weekend show, wheere do you sleep Sat nite? What about dinner? Breakfast? Do people bring grills and such? Would like to drive to the PA shows this year, just wondering what the regulars do for sleeping arrangements... PS...In the future, I would like to fix up an old low boy so it looks like it is hauling a giant equipment crate, which would actually be a fully equipped RV style "overnighter"!
  7. There is a machined pad just above and to the rear of the compressor, here should be stamped the serial number for the engine. A quick not to the museum with the serial number should get you all of the infor you need...

If it (the Delco) has an internal regulator, and is anything like the 10SI internally, when it "kicks" in is based on the resistance in the the circuit that runs from the keyswitch through the "idiot" light, you can put a small resistor, or bigger bulb, to make it kick in sooner and start charging at a smaller rpm...the one I have (10SI) doesnt start charging until it reaches about 800 rpm, but after starting, I just blip the throttle, and it kicks in, charges, and stays charging even it idle (550rpm).
  10. It's the little things that count...Saturday I removed and reset the wipers so they wipe the window and not the cab, traced some wires and got the high beam indicator working and went on a couple of short trips! (about 60 miles total)
  11. Looking to put an 18" steering wheel on my B...I understand an R model has the same spline...are there others? I was thinking of going down to Cohen Bros tomorrow and trying to find something... Black 3 spoke is my preference, just wondering if all of macks between certain years had the same spline or not...   12. Found the Meritor part number for a king pin kit for my FA517...I read an old post that said the Meritor parts dont fit? Anyone used one of the Meritor kits? Is there a better place to buy? Thanks
  13. Got some good ideas now...I have not been able to track any down online...I search cable throttle, stuff like that and came up blank...when I find something...I WILL retro fit it to the stock dash control...new cable, old school stock look...Someone told me stock ones are hard to find..

Mine and most I have seen use one of the main air tank bungs...just screw in a male air hose quick connect (the same style as your shop air comressor uses) where it is easily accessible and you can use it to fill the tank without the engine running and it doubles as a way to hook up a hose to air up tires etc with the truck air supply...

  16. Does anyone have a couple of pictures of how/what is on the injector end of the throttle linkage? I may try to make something up using a modern cable fitted to the original dash handle...dont see any mounts of what might have been there stock...dont know if it uses some kind of a slide, or a block that holds back the throttle or what... Thanks
  17. Starting seeing sparks flying behind the oil filter when it was starting hard...jiggled the cable and it came out of the terminal! Gonna take 'em both off and have new end ends put on... I am proud though, today I "shoved" the end back in its hole and the ol girl started today at 20 degrees with no block warming! Rewarded her by taking her around the block
  18. What kind of sadist would design the starter placement so that you had to remove the oil filter to get to the starter ground?!? I could do it from underneath, turing 1/360 of a degree at a time!
  19. Thanks! So the Emg/normal switch is like a modern Trailer Air Control? ANd the only addition with the third valve on modern trucks is the trailer parking brake. Modern truck have three valves, tractor park, trailer park,and trailer supply? Thanks again.

I believe I understand the tractor protection valve and what it does...I am slightly confused on how it is controlled in a typical B model...There is only one lever in the cab for trailer control, and it is marked normal and emergency, and I thought I read somewhere that it was used to apply trailer brakes in an emergency. So my questions are... How do you charge/dump the trailer parking brake (independent of the tractor parking brake), and how do you start/stop the tractor brake air from leaking out of the trailer hoses when a trailer is not attached... Thanks

I just (two weeks ago) went through the SAME thing you are...I went to NAPA and purchased a Delco 10SI 63 amp alternator and modified the generator bracket and viola...no more charging problems...also added a dash light so the alternator would "switch on", as it needs a resistance in line with a switched 12 volt input... I am still dealing with two old undersized POS dead cell worn out batteries, but I am going to remedy that tomorrow! Two group 31 twelve volts with 1000CCA each... My advice is to spend every night reading these forums, it is the only way to learn, just about anything you could want to know is here, and has probably been answered.
