  4. Nikola Motor Company and Bosch team up on long-haul fuel cell truck A truck with up to 1,200 miles in range will run on Bosch’s eAxle platform. Megan Geuss - 9/19/2017, 4:00 PM Enlarge / This is what the Nikola Two will look like. Nikola Motor Company reader comments 80 Share this story Salt Lake City-based Nikola Motor Company and German auto components giant Bosch are teaming up to build the Nikola One and Nikola Two—a pair of hydrogen-electric, long-haul trucks that will compete with the handful of other low-emissions trucks and powertrains that have been announced in mid-2017. The Nikola One truck isn’t a new development, but the startup’s partnership with Bosch is. Last December, Nikola Motor Company announced that it would build a hydrogen-electric truck that would be able to travel 1,200 miles on a tank of hydrogen and deliver 1,000 horsepower and 2,000 foot-pounds of torque. The company said at the time that its truck, deemed the Nikola One, would be market-ready by 2020. Now, that market-ready date has been pushed back to 2021, but adding Bosch’s experience into the mix no doubt helps firm up Nikola Motor Company’s projections. According to a press release from the startup, the class 8 Nikola One and Nikola Two will now be built on Bosch’s eAxle—an integrated unit blending motor, power electronics, and transmission. Bosch's eAxle was only just announced this January

  10. However, there is little doubt that the long-term aim for the head of VW's truck operations, Andreas Renschler, is to take full control of the Navistar just as VW has gradually taken control of Scania and MAN in Europe. And, no need to doubt that VW's goal is to restore Navistar to being a strong truck manufacturers in North America. Way to go Navistar board of directors. You just let the rattlesnake in the mouse house. Are you people to dumb to see the historical implications. If they only buy a minority 16.6 percent stake, given MAN is one of their engine suppliers, I've no problem with that. If MAN (VW) acquired NAV, I would have a big problem with that. Troy says he has no plan to sell out. The Cummins-Westport engines are mediocre, and their exhaust aftertreatment technology (Cummins Filtration) is 2 steps behind the global leaders in the field.Cummins is sucking wind. This is the first step to take full control of Navistar, but they (VW) have time. In 2018/2019 MAN gets a new cab and there must be one engine platform for both brands (MAN and Scania) except the V8 (only for Scania) . Scania gets MAN axles and MAN Scania gearboxes. When International leans completely on VW technics and Cummins is out, they (VW) have full control. At that time the diesel scandal is behind them and paid, then they can buy the rest of Navistar. VW makes no secret of it that they want to be number one in the car and truck industry.

  12. Volvo Trucks' new factory fill engine oil adds extra miles between maintenance intervals, reduces costs August 18, 2016 <img class="new-flex-embed-content new-media-placeholder" src="http://baummags.a.cdnify.io/files/slides/locale_image/medium/0111/27617_en_15734_2859_volvo-logo.jpg" alt=""> Volvo Trucks North America will offer a new factory fill engine oil for the Volvo D11, D13 and D16 engines, meeting new Volvo VDS-4.5 engine specifications and also exceeding the new API specification CK-4. Volvo models running the new VDS-4.5 will be able to travel for longer intervals between oil changes, saving customers money on service costs and increasing uptime. Volvo VDS-4.5 underwent careful analysis and testing to ensure changes met Volvo’s stringent reliability and performance standards. It is the same viscosity (10W30) as today’s factory fill. However, it will have enhanced performance for oil oxidation and oil aeration control. VDS-4.5 is compatible with and can be used in older, previous emissions-level engines. For engine oil and filters, the new recommended maintenance intervals add extra miles to the previous life of an oil change for each of the three duty cycles – long haul, regional haul and heavy haul – as defined by fuel consumption. Those intervals were increased to be 55,000 miles for long haul, 40,000 miles for regional and 30,000 miles for heavy. “Assuming a 600,000 mile vehicle life in over-the-road applications, the new engine oil intervals will allow truck owners to skip between 4 and 16 oil drains, depending on duty cycle, compared with the prior maintenance schedule,” said John Moore, Volvo product marketing manager – powertrain. “In oil costs alone, that represents a savings of hundreds of dollars per year, even for the lightest duty cycles. Those savings would be substantially larger for operations that do not perform preventative maintenance in-house.” For owners that decide to use the current Volvo VDS-4 oil, current lower mileage oil change intervals will remain. If engine idle time is greater than 30 percent, operators should use the next shorter drain interval. Volvo VDS-4.5 will be available beginning in October.
