The finest truck I ever drove for overall performance and power was an R model with 300 Maxidyne, 2 stick 6 speed and it had 4.17 rears on 22.5 rubber. The power you had combined with decent fuel economy made it a great combination for a smaller stance engine compared to some of the larger trucks out there. It was not supposed to be like the Western Star I drove later with a KT600, 13 double OD and 4.10 gears on 24.5 tall tires. That was a beast and the thirstiest truck I ever drove. Long live true Macks.

Whatever happened to Jersey Macks? There hasn't been any postings in quite awhile since I requested some information. I hope that it doesn't die.

Good morning everyone, It has been a year since I tried to locate any info or pictures for a couple of old Trenton, NJ trucking companies that I worked for that were entirely Mack truck companies. The first was H.M.Royal, Inc., 689 Pennington Ave, Trenton. They are still in business but only have 1 IH straight truck for local deliveries and a handful of storage van trailers in their yard. The other was HERMS Trucking, Inc, 620 Pear St. Trenton. They went bankrupt back around 1980 after a union organization attempt and their building and yard is occupied by Rick Bus Co. today. I was hoping that there is someone who might remember them, have a picture or who can talk about them with me. I thank you all and thanks.

Thanks Mowerman for your reply. I have been trying for quite awhile to find someone from the Trenton area that might remember these 2 local companies or maybe some older pics. I appreciate the info and keep on "Macks Forever"

Does anyone out there remember H.M.Royal on 689 Pennington Ave and HERMS Trucking 620 Pear St both from Trenton? Royal is still in business but has no trucks on the road and HERMS went out of business around 1980 or so. H.M.Royal had green/red frame and later white all Mack fleet and HERMS was every model Mack red/white and later the C/O tractors were white w/orange and red stripes. Any info or pictures would be of the greatest help to an old retired driver from both companies.

I thought I would make one last attempt at reviving memories from the 1960's-1970's in Trenton. I am looking for any information and pictures about HERMS Trucking that was in business during then. They started near Perawel Trucking on State St. and moved to 620 Pear St. near the Brunswick Circle where they grew rapidly. They had dry vans and flatbeds and a large fleet of B, U, R and F models that were red/white. They hauled Duraflame Firelogs, Kingsford Charcoal and nursery stock [trees and shrubs] all throughout the Northeast. I appreciate any and all replies.

Anybody here on NY Macks remember seeing any HERMS Trucking trucks in and around the NYC area back in the 1960's-1970's? I used to work for them and we did a lot of nursery stock [trees] to NYC and New England areas. I delivered many full grown trees that were about 50' tall to the World Trade Center back in the beginning . Just looking to remember the old days and thanks for any pics too.

It is a shame but it seems like this site has run it's course. Without any new photos or info on questions asked I feel that Jersey Macks has died. Rest in peace.

I have tried to find out information on a long ago Trenton trucking company but to no avail. I was hoping that there were some old timers that remembered Herms Trucking or had some pictures to share of their equipment. Hi everyone. I finally got to use a WIFI site and see if anyone on this NJ Mack site has ever heard of Herms Trucking Inc out of Trenton, NJ. I wish to extend a thank you to anyone who has read this thread but had no information or pictures of Herms Trucking of Trenton NJ. They were in business during the 1960's-1970's and I was hoping to be able to see some pics of their fleet of Macks. My computer is almost dead and will be retired next week and I so wished for a couple of pics before that happened. Oh well thanks for trying fellow bulldog fans maybe I'll be able to see some on someone else's computer. Have a great ride.

It used to be that the UPS trucks with the badges in place were leased trucks and not owned. All UPS owned trucks do not have badges. Easy to compare their Macks with or without the bulldogs and name.

Wobblin-Gobblin, I wanted to ask you if you ever finished painting the dump bed and rear wheels? I started to follow your post from the beginning and have to really compliment you on your patience and dedication to completing this project. You have done what a lot of us wish we had the time and money to do. If you have any pictures of the final look of your "pride and joy" I'm sure everyone would love to see them. Congratulations on a fine truck.

I would like to put a request out there to all the NJ Mack readers. I have asked anyone for any memories or photos of any HERMS Trucking and HMRoyal from Trenton, NJ. I am retiring this computer at the end of June because it fails more than it works and my Internet service too. I won't have any access for quite awhile if at all so I was hoping that someone might know of some photos or another person with some to share on this site. Thanks for any help and here's hoping for shot at some good old memories.

Update, I have been in contact with Mr. Toms Royal from H.M.Royal, Inc. in Trenton, N.J. and he is going to send me some pics of some of the trucks that they used to have. I'll be sure to post them when I receive them. Now all I need is someone who remembers HERMS Trucking Inc. or has some pictures of their trucks. Good morning Chuck P. Thanks for the reply and the memories. I worked at HERMS when they had a garage near Olden Ave and State St. before moving to 620 Pear St. near the Brunswick Circle. They had a few green B model Macks, red/white R and U Macks and a fleet of white F models. They were van and flatbed trailers and hauled mostly trees, Duraflame firelogs and Kingsford products. The terminal now is a school bus yard for Ricks Bus Lines I think. I worked for H.M.Royal on Pennington Ave and used to haul a bulk tanker into Stokes Molded Products. My Dad also hauled for Shein's Express around 1949 I think. My step-father worked at AAA for quite a few years too when their terminal was located on New York Ave near Olden Ave. before the Quakerbridge Rd terminal. H.M.Royal is still in business but has no trucks anymore. It has been an honor speaking with you and I thank you for allowing me to recall the past. Have a great day.

Hi J Hancock, I thank you for the response and pictures of L.J.Kennedy. I had a choice when I drove for them between an older R model with a 237 Maxidyne or a U with a 300 Maxidyne so I chose the 300 for the power difference. I drove out of the Florence, NJ terminal but didn't stay very long because of differences with dispatch and the driving laws. Oh well they were still a fairly decent company back then. Thanks for the link and update.

Thanks Mackman 1965, I'm not very good at posting things on the computer and after reading the various posts from other Bulldog people I thought that I'd try and see if anyone knew of my previous companies. Being retired and really bored I was hoping to find someone from my area that might have any info on these various employers of mine. I appreciate the words of encouragement and hope that someone does remember them or have some pictures. I might be going offline soon if my computer dies before I get a replacement. I was wondering if because I don't own a Mack but just drove them all my life that no one replies to my posts about some long ago Trenton trucking companies that were all Mack? I was hoping that someone out there had some pictures or memories of seeing H.M.Royal, Inc. or HERMS Trucking or L.J.Kennedy around the Trenton area. I see that this site isn't visited that often so maybe that is why there are no responses to my questions. It's been a couple of weeks since I posted and thought I'd again ask if anyone remembers or has pictures of a couple of long ago Trenton, NJ trucking companies. Are their any pics of HERMS Trucking, H.M.Royal or L.J.Kennedy available? All were Mack truck fleets back in the 1960's and 1970's. I was hoping someone remembers these companies and their bulldogs. I drove A40, B61, F600 and R685's for H.M.Royal, B61, B67, B75, R685,U685 and F600 for Herms and U685 for L.J.Kennedy and can't find any of my old pics anywhere. Thanks in advance for any help.

WOW! This is one beautiful bulldog. If it has a 300 Maxidyne and 2 stick 6 speed and looks this good on the inside why would you sell it. Hell, I might consider selling my wife before I would let this beauty leave my yard. Only kidding my dear if you are reading this. Good luck in whatever your decision is. There was nothing sweeter than the sound of the 300 turbos "whistling" between shifts and the sight of the hood scoop. What a power beast they were. I liked the 2 stick 6 speed for the impression it gave even though you didn't really need it on the highway.
