  1. How much oil pressure does it need to work properly? E-7 2001

I'll explain after someone can get me that info.

    Thanks agian in advance.

Mackpro beat me to the punch there. Here are the specs given in the E-Tech Service Manual for troubleshooting the J-Tech (Jake Model 690) engine brake.

E-Tech™ Engine with J-Tech™ Engine Brake

    Engine rpm 2100 — 40 psi (2.8 bar)

    Engine rpm 1700 — 35 psi (2.4 bar)*

    Engine rpm 1500 — 30 psi (2.0 bar)*

    Engine rpm 1300 — 30 psi (2.0 bar)*

    Engine rpm 1100 — 30 psi (2.0 bar)*

*Specified pressures with engine at normal operating temperatures

  2. Hey, Your going to have one of them blowouts and it will shred everthing in site. I hope when the smoke clears that no one got hurt.

    mike

I think Mike is right. Rob, you better install some type of vent system, wouldn't want any blowby!

  3. That's the kind of kind of business I like and wish he were close to me.

I have a Mack dealer 40 miles east and a Mack dealer 40 miles west of me but they're both like going to a foreign land. I'll second the man's opinion about this site because I too think this about the best site I've found. There's no telling how many gray hair MackPro and fjh have prevented me from getting over problems on my truck the local shops couldn't find let alone correct.

rhasler is showing me how to fix a gauge problem now but the local Mack shop says I have no problem.

Hey Jerry, what shops are you near?

  4. Thanks rhasler. Maybe my friend was right then. The company I'm leased to has a few wrecked visions in their bone yard so I can borrow a panel and check it out. thanks again for your help. Jerry.

I did forget to say that the guages (except the speedometer and tach) can be replaced. Also, if you don't have some guages (for instance boost pressure) and you install a cluster that does the guage will not work unless the VECU is reprogrammed to enable that guage.

  5. Gentlemen my o4 Vision is turning on the seat belt warning light and warning buzzer when I hit a bump and all instrument gauges are going dead. I can't find a loose connection and it goes back to normal when I bump the dashboard with my fist. It acts like a loose wire or connection but I can't find the problem so does anyone have a suggestion on how to check this out?? A friend suggested maybe a broken circuit board in the instrument panel so does that sound right??

It only happens when moving and the computer diagnosis at Mack Houston doesn't show anything wrong. Thanks Jerry

In my experience the guage cluster is generally at fault, but there is no real way to test it prior to replacing it. You can do a manual guage sweep by doing the following: Depress and hold the Mode button for longer than 2 seconds (with the ignition ON and the engine NOT running) to initiate a self-diagnostic routine. The routine includes positioning all gauges (with the exception of the air pressure gauge) to the 12 o'clock position, activating all indicator lights and LCD segments for 5 seconds and activating an audible alarm for 2.5 seconds.

The seatbelt light is controlled by the circuit board in the guage cluster, so it's activation indicates that the cluster is bad. It's not difficult to replace, requires no programming, only tools needed are #27 and #8 torx drivers. Unfortunately there are no servicable parts inside other than the bulbs.

  6. No , it shifts and feals ok to me other than that. Nice and tight.

If they'll let you do it before buying it I would pull the inspection cover off of the transmission and take a visual and see what it looks like inside. Check the clutch release lever clevis pin hole too. If it's worn excessively it will feel like there's free travel but the clutch forks will actually be pulled up against the release bearing.

  7. Im looking at buying a R600 in the morning with a Maxi 5 speed and I drove it today and you have to let the clutch almost all the way out to get it to move. Any red flags or am I having a brain fart? Shes a real dog and will need alot of work .

Sounds like the clutch is out of adjustment, does it have any free travel? Any problem with the operation of the clutch otherwise (noise, hard to push, etc)?

  8. I know it is the right switch I have owned this truck since it was new and may have replaced it a few times but the problem started all the sudden. The trolly bar is not pulled down .If I release the air at the light switch they dont come back on so I know that air is not leaking over to the service side in a chamber or valve..

Sorry, I thought you were just working on it for someone else. Let me think about it and I'll see if I can come up with something.

  9. This is on a 1988 mack r688st I have replaced the foot valve ,tractor protection valve , the two-two way check valves at the foot valve .This thing is driving me nuts if I push brake pedal lights will stay on for a long time till air leaks off .I am an ASE certified diesel mech I have worked on macks for 15 years and this one is killin me . Aside of replacing all the valves on the truck I am at a loss any help would be great.

Make sure the correct n/o or n/c switch is installed. Make sure the switch is good. If you have a trolley bar make sure it isn't pulled part of the way down or leaking air to the service brakes. Do you have a wiring diagram?

  10. If theres not one already, somebody needs to come up with a "scientific" sounding name for this malady, sure it's happened to everyone at least once, where you hiccup, sneeze, burp, cough, fart all at the same time!......results are seldom pretty!..........Mark

Sounds like you're talking about a sudden, simultaneous, and sporadic flexation of the diaphragm coupled with a catastrophic relaxing of the involuntary muscle system in the area of the anal sphincter (SMFP syndrome).

  12. So I finally got around to rotating, cropping and saving the individual pages from cover to cover and decided to make it into one big PDF. This near perfect condition Fruehauf trailer brochure was among my grandfathers stuff when we cleaned out his old room (he passed away Jan 2000). Well I had it sitting around and decided to scan it. There was some color but only the illustrations of the trailers were color. My Linux system was not properly initializing the scanner for color so only black and white for now. Looks sharp and very readable, no squinting unlike some scanned brochures which are shrank down and compressed to the brink of unreadable. Its 7.8 MB in size so if your on dial-up please be patient. If you want the original jpg's I made from the raw scanned data please message me, they are about 5.5MB total.

Just out of curiosity, what software did you use here? It came out very clear.

  13. That ain't even anything that could even REMOTELY be considered music. Usually, the banjos do a good job getting THEM to give ME that "If I wanted to listen to that crap I'd be sitting in your truck" look as THEY roll up THEIR windows...

...which is the exact reaction I was going for when I cranked it up. :thumb:

I'm pretty sure Metal Machine Music has the "brown sound" in there somewhere. Put it on and everyone scatters like they had to change their shorts/pants. Maybe that's why there's an upholstery van in the picture with the purple car. 'Nuff said?

  14. Thanks for all the replys. My VIN is 1m2ag10c26m025334. If anyone can help me out. I will be emailing mack. I bought my truck used and never got an owners manual or anything for it. I would just like to have the line ticket just so i know what my trucks has. Thanks again. :mack1:

Looks like it's got an AI460 engine, T318L transmission, FXL18 front axle, 16.5" X 6" front brakes, Rockwell 23160 rear ends 4.30 ratio with interwheel differential lock, 16.5" X 7" Rockwell Q-Plus rear brakes. That's some of what it's got on it, but a complete line sheet will ahve a lot more information. A word of advise: Keep an eye on the frame rails in the area just behind the steering gear and the same location on the right side for cracks. One of the frame vendors made some frames with bad relief cuts that would crack in service. I think your truck is in the time frame that there were several of these. There is a service bulletin on a repair for this. I'll see if I can find it if you're interested

  15. How do i get the Line Ticket for my truck. The dealer said they couldn't get it. But did print out some other BS for me that was helpful. But i still want the line ticket. Do i have to call or talk to MACK them selfs. Does it cost money?? Thanks

It's been quite a while since I've had the opportunity to root through a new truck to see what was in it. The line sheet used to come in every new truck along with the operators manuals and other misc. stuff. I think it used to be printed on generic green and white printer paper. I would imagine they are still available, and getting one for a truck like yours shouldn't be too hard. Inability to obtain your line sheet may be related to the dealership you're talking to. If you don't have a really good relationship with them they may not be willing to go out of their way for you. You might have better luck simply calling or emailing Mack Trucks. Try the following: Email: customer.satisfaction@macktrucks.com Phone: 610-709-3961 (I don't know if that number is still good since the move to Greensboro NC.)

  16. Note to headquarters- as far as "fixing you up" with my personal staff, that is completely out of the question! they are all "tied up" and un-available for transfer at this time. I DO have two promising young ladies from the secretarial pool, that are excited to join our organization! they are headed for texas as we speak! i'm sure they will serve you and V.P. rhasler well! i have enclosed photos of the girls, so you can put a name to the face when they arrive. photo # 1 shows the girls.......Little debbie (like the snack cake) and the lovely Hagitha louise ! they will arrive in the company car (provided at my expense mind you) photo # 2............. Memo to Mark, the new secretaries you sent down arrived today in the company car, however I believe your personel dossiers are mixed up as these two young women did not match the photos that you included. Nonetheless, we believe these two young ladies will be a fine addition to the corporate offices in Texas. For your convience I am including photos so you can update your records. By the way, were you aware of the jug of moonshine in the back of the company car? We may need to keep an eye out for such negligent use of company property in the future.

  17. Ok about at my wits end with this thing. The brake pedal does not seem to have dirt under it. Seems to be ok. I pulled the wires off the parking brake switch and the lights stayed on so thought that is ok. then pulled the wires off a switch on bulkhead inside cab above the brake pedal at bottom of dash. Lights went out. Put them back on and the brake lights went back on. So I replaced that switch and still, the lights stay on.

It's pretty difficult to figure this out without a wiring diagram and I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase. I would check the turn signal switch. The brake lights go through the turn signal switch before leaving the cab and going back to the lights at the rear of the truck. If you already replaced the switch make sure it is the right type. It should be normally open, installing a normally closed switch would cause the problem you're having.
