  1. And they were cheaper the the CF so it worked out well for some smaller towns and boroughs..
  2. Bad thing is they present it in such a way that when they are called on the carpet about it in a court of law, it`s tough to prosecute them..
  3. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley as well but I`m a lot older than you younger guys, I had the connection to Mack through my Dad and Uncle..And it was a VERY important part of America, growing up my friends Fathers worked at Mack, Bethlehem Steel, Ingersoll Rand or many of the cement mills in the area. Mack is a true American Icon that should be preserved at every level, After all, you never hear someone say "Built like a Freightliner Truck" do you????
  4. OK, seeing what happened involving pictures used on this site, I started to think. (No easy task for me sometimes,) anyway, My challange to all of you is to get out there and take as many pictures as you can, Truck Shows, old iron on the job, hulks rusting in a field, shoot them all. They are`nt going to be around forever, that R Model you took a picture of today might be gone next week. Take a bunch and lets see what we get...
  5. The big change for Mack, Especially in the northeast is when they started losing ground in the fleet area. A good number of private haulers, grocery stores, petroleum carriers, Regional LTL runners, tank lines like Matlack, started going to Freightliner and such for fleet trucks. Mack held the vocational field but some of the fleet markets were gone for good..
  6. I used to go to Grandview..hasnt been there in years.
  7. I`d like to see that, I grew up a few blocks from JH Beers, he was a friend of my Dads..
  8. The Paccars would pass us on the flat on I 78 heading east to NYC in Jersey.., but when we hit Jugtown Mountain we would just walk on by em....
  9. Well Damn..heres to Miller and Sons, the only pic I have of them..
  10. Awesome, the R was IMHO the best Class 8 ever built..Dad kept a piece of plywood custom cut to put between the seats for just such an emergency..
  11. They did, but I have seen a few R`s for Schwerman..I think theres a photo of one on Hanks but I will refrain from posting it here...
  12. I remember Schwerman as white over black..then all white..
  13. In the first Gulf go around we pretty much knew everything in front was a bad guy so the ROE was pretty loose..things are way different in Iraq and Afganistan. Once again we are trying to run the war from a desk..
  14. Thing is that every other Mack I saw on Nassau was in top shape..Mostly MR`s CH`s and DM`s but they were in great shape..
  15. There`s still quite a few buildings standing from the old plant. Some still have the old IM logos on them..
