  1. Actually, I think the corporate strategy may have changed a bit. We're now also supplying BP with the "composite aggregate materials" that will be used to "synthesize an engineered compound" for plugging the well, Randy is personally overseeing the "mineral and element extraction and relocation" phase of the project. Of course you know, this is highly confidential information that must never be leaked to the public.

heh heh,,,If i dont quit tearing stuff up, am gonna need a couple of oil wells pumping on the side! I was gonna get ahead on pond today, started bout daylight, on my second load heard something slightly tinging the radiator fan, killed engine, looked under hood of old R-dumper and both bolts had broken under A/C compressor bracket and it was trying to climb into fan. The same 2 bolts hold water pump housing on too so I was pouring antifreeze. I tied compressor back and nursed in under the only shade tree in pasture for a while, have removed water pump, got one bolt out and will work on other one more tommorrow, its being stubborn. Thats what i get for trying to work on saturday i guess. It was 102 today, not a breeze stirring, if it hadnt been for that lone shade tree, I couldnt have stood it. Oh well, tommorrow is nother day. No rhasler, havent got A/C for excavator yet, gotta make some money first,,,later,,,randy

  2. DONT SEAL THE CAB UP , IF YOU FILL IT WITH WATER THE WATER WILL GET HOTTER THAN THE OUT SIDE AND BBQ YOU AND YOU WILL RUIN A GOOD WET SUIT.

    GG2

heh heh,,,you got a good point there GG, i didnt think bout that, you may have saved my life, why, I could have been boiled alive! randy

  3. ...that commodore nutt Randyp guy been...?

Have finished vacation, started excavating smallish pond with no-airconditoned yet excavator, am considering sealing cab of excavator up, filling it full of water, and wearing scuba tanks all day in cab to dodge the heat. How long does a tank of air last? I guess i coould run a snorkel out the roof, probably choke on the dust though. It hit 102 here today, am loading dirt, getting off, moving truck 300 ft, dumping, on and on,,,etc,,,later,,randyp

  4. Have any of you guys owned or operated any Volvo Construction Equipment?

I have run some of the offroad dump trucks rhasler, thats all, have never owned any volvo equipment. The Volvo excavators have a really good reputation around here, but they are also very pricey. The dump trucks were very tough and powerful, I liked em,,,randy

  5. that big girl will push strip some dirt

thas right,,we also stripped with 3 D-10'S, I have pics of them, will load them later and post them. The 9's were used more for road building and end dump support and such, cleaning up around shovels,,etc. randy

  6. I can jump in here, My favorite dozer is my D8K I have had it for 22 years, 12K hrs on the meter, it runs and works just like the day after it was built. The best sounding machine is the 17A series D7.

When I first got going in the 70's an old time dirt guy said if you got Macks and Cats you got the best, I have to agree.`

    FW

I bet you misunderheard him FW, he must have been eating corn bread while he was talking, am almost sure he said "Macks and Koooommmaaatttsssuuusss,,,chomp,,chomp,,(ummm,,,good corn bread),,heh heh,,,randyp

  7. The D8K I had was still the sweetest operating machine I have ever ran. I tried many times to stall the tracks in 2nd gear, but unless you had a stump or a log under them they either spun or it PUSHED! It had a twin tilt angle blade and I had a KG blade for it. I still miss that tractor.

yes, the D8K was a most excellent tractor,,,very strong runner,,randy

  8. YEP,i agree ya'makes 2 of us! i still have the 1970 chevy pickup i had in high school, changed it over to electronic ignition, still have the carb. though i dont't really mind "tinkering" with that! not a whole lot of people left that can take a carb. apart put it back together without some "left over" pieces! LMAO....Mark

heh heh,,I like the tinkering part, but I remember those days when it wasnt tinkering, I was just in a frantic hurry to get the damn thing to crank! Those might have been the good old days, but i wouldnt wanna repeat em,,LOL,,,randy

  9. I still have all of mine as well, timing light, point setting/installing tools, looked through some of my tools this weekend, i still have a set of tools for removing manual window crank handles from GM vehicles! and a "pickle fork" for ball joints! i still have a corded electric drill made/sold by W.T.GRANT inc. (an eastcoast dept.store) that went out of business at least 40 years ago! still works great! sad thing is, most people (with the exception of us graybeards on here) even know what points, vacuum advance timing, etc.are all about?.........Mark

heh heh,,,yeah,,I hear ya Mark. I think solid state ignition and fuel injection were 2 of the greatest things ever stolen from the captured alien mother ship! I was bout fed up with carbs and points anyway. randy

  10. Here are a couple of shots of my favorite dozer, a mid 50's LGP D8 14A. The new LGP D8R's are faster, push more snow, and are definitely more user friendly, but when it comes to pulling heavy loads over soft snow, nothing beats the old cats.

Three remain out of the 50 or so built. Most were abandoned on the ice by the Seabees when the Navy operated the US Antarctic Research Program for the National Science Foundation. The Navy was notorious for leaving equipment where it sat when they were finished with it or when it broke down. Almost all of the tractors shipped back for disposal were scrapped, though there is one at the Seabees museum at Port Hueneme near Oxnard, Cal.

Well, I do believe thas the first one of those long rascals i ever saw! interesting cab arrangement,,,randy

  11. Randy, for some reason it looked to me like you have a handlebar mustache in this picture (until I clicked on it to make it bigger). Might be a good look for you, so keep that in mind if you need to change the facial follicles in the future. One of my neighbors has an old dozer sitting behind the house, one of these days I'll see if I can find out what it is. Seems like it's been sitting for years

hey, wassup rhasler,,,naw,,thas just remains of goatee, i bout worried so much i rubbed it all out. When they plugged leak in gulf, and my newfound fortune went belly up, just set me to worrying too much. randy

  12. Hey guys just adding my 2 cents.I personally have owned and operated the line from td-6 to td-20s other than the heads giving a guy grief they were a great line of dozers. Also own a d6 9u catrpillar from 1963 and it is a great cat, sounds awesome with straight pipe and a real good push.Sure be nice to see more cat's restored instead of just looking at them as by the pound.Farewell talk to u soon

I used to run all the big cats, but when I struck out on my own, I like Komatsu,,parts cheaper,,easy to work on and stout as an elephant,,,just my 2 cents. In the past few years, cat has had a real problem with electronics and computer programs on their equipment,,,causing lots of shop time,,,randy

  13. Now that's just about on par of what happed to me on the 4th. You'll remember the chilli injected "superdogs" Momma, and Momma's Momma was makin for me over last weekend? I suppose I ate too many cause on my bike ride home after the fireworks show, and sneezing at 70mph, I damn near exploded past the elastic leg bands used to contain body discharges of my rubber underpants while dodging rain storms. No real problem though. Stopping the bike, dropped my pants, and simply sliding down the grassy embankment alongside the hiway did a fine job of cleaning up. Utilizing the benign benifits of hypo alergenic properties of my undergarments, I was once again on my merry way for the next 75 miles to the conclusion of the trip.

    Rob

Did you get a letter from the highway dept. telling you to bring the dirt back and quit defacing "state property"?,,,randy

  14. That thing looks Tuf. Could probably do without the graphics myself.

heh,,heh,,A guy passed me coming home from church today in an old dodge with a cummins, I swear he had 2 straight stacks coming out of bed behind back window that looked as big round as 55 gallon drums and stuck way up in the air. He had it firewalled, black smoke was rolling, and it was loud! It was just an old junky looking pickup and I think stacks may have outweighed it,,,,randy

  15. I still have all that stuff too. Lots easier to set points for a 30 degree "dwell" with the flex shaft tool rather than an "Allen" wrench. I've seen so many fools drop screws into the distributor body because they didn't have a "screw starter" or magnetic pickup tool that I found it comical when someone was cussing because of it. Small "Channel Lock" pliers are just a good as sliced bread for the small stuff.

I always found a torch a much handier tool for removing old shocks rather than any tool made for the job but I still have the tool......

    Rob

I still got my "dwell meter" and points tool bought from Western Auto a long time ago in a galaxy far far away,,,randy

  16. Arrived in Raleigh about 1/2 hour ago. It's hot but not near as steamy as the car ride over. I'm in room 204 of the Comfort Suites at 4400 Capitol BLVD. The number is 919-876-2211.

Seems like I get to live a little "higher on the hog" than I'm accustomed to for the next five days. Hell, I don't even have to wade in the creek to take a bath here.

    Rob

tell barney and andy goober says "hey",,,,randy

  17. When the money flows you go.Maybe you'll make enough to fix the AC in the house,I'm betting the AC in the truck is kicking.

There is no AC in "Killer B", I keep a big cooler in passenger floorboard with bottled water iced down. I moved 4 pieces of equipment with it yesterday, temp was 101, I think it was about 130 in cab,,,heh heh,,I ran out of bottled water and started drinking the melted ice water in cooler, kinda rank, but wet. 18. Been mighty hot down here in virginia the past few days, but it's really starting to get bad!............Mark

Yup,,i do believe it overheated. Its brutally hot here in texas, and have the high humidity to go with it. Heh,,i been soaking that red bandana in the ice water can and just wearing it on top of my head, and trying to quit early. randy

  19. Damn, that looks to be about the caliber of my ass and with about a hundred pounds of black powder I could prolly reach low sub earth orbit.

    Rob

forget the black powder, just eat you 3 or 4 of those "superdogs". stick an ignitor wire up your ass,and "CONTACT!" Be sure and put one those lil video cameras on your forehead, I wanna see this! randy

  20. We took my father in law to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes ( he is 78 ).

We decided to grab a bite at the food court.

I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him.

The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors - green, red, orange, and blue.

My father in law kept staring at her.

The teenager kept looking and would find him staring every time.

When the teenager had had enough, she sarcastically asked:

"What's the matter old man, ain't you never done anything wild in your life?"

Knowing whom she was speaking to, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response as I knew it would be a good one!

In classic style he responded without batting an eyelid …………

"Got stoned once and screwed a peacock.

Just wondering if you were my daughter."

heh heh heh heh ,,,,,multiplied by 10,,,,,,RaNdY

  21. The gravel pit has resumed at "full speed, get outta the freaking way, assholes and elbows and dust flying" again, had a lil time this evening to catch up on the latest forum news, looks like all have been humming along, including Rob. keep up the good work,,,Randy
