  1. Well guys, heres what I'm gonna do. I'm going with another 18 speed tranny, but with a taller OD. Guy told me that way I wouldn't lose anything on the bottom, but the double over would put me down the road as needed. Think I found a good used trans, and the guy told me he'd sell my old one for me. Maybe I won't have as much in it this way. Thanks for the input, Bob
  2. Well Thanks guys this helps. Heres the story. No tags, can't find any identification on the trans, other than we know its an Eaton. Checked trans for OD ratio by using an electronic tach on damper and parted driveshaft. Comes out to like .2 overdrive to 4.56 gears. (checked rears 4.56 is what it has for sure) I'm thinking I'll put 3.90s in and it will bring it to 70mph, tall rubber should bring it to 76ish. Still less than perfect, but hate to go higher rear ratio because of off highway driving. Any more input? Bob
  3. Hi Guys, I bought a '92 Superliner with a 3406 Cat, 18 speed Eaton Fuller and rockwell rears. I know kinda a half breed but... Someone has it geared very stupid. Near as I can tell, it has 4.89 gears in the rear. Don't know the trans overdrive, and have no tag. 11-22.5 tires. It will barely do 60mph at 2100. Thinking changing the rears might be the best? Go to like 3.90s? I want the top speed to be 80 to 85mph. I still need a decent low side, because I use the truck in the woods, but enough highway miles I need road speed without running the engine on the carpet all day. From the investigating I've done, the truck had an Eaton Fuller RTX15715 (15 speed?) and 4.56 gears. What would that put it at? Any suggestions? I do have an Autocar log truck that has an 8LL and 3.90s with 22.5s and it seems to be geared very nice for what I'm doing. Thanks all, Bob

  6. Can you put an electronic N14 Cummins (2001 era) in a late '80s Mack? Was mostly wondering about wiring. I know the 24 valve 6BT Cummins only need a box for the engine and the truck has its own stuff. Anybody know? Bob
  7. I've got a 10 speed unishift in my B-61 with a 237 for power. I'm gonna eventually get around and put a tip turbine on it I have and have the pump turned up accordingly. I know the 10 speed will hold up IF I'm careful, but I like to get after it and am planning on using the truck to haul equipment and pull with. I found a guy who has a 7 speed Mack with overdrive (probably the 7s all are) in an old whipped out DM. Was hoping for higher highway speed, hence the OD, and it still has a good low gear for starting out. I know I'll have to change the clutch and linkage to fit the B model. So after having said that, here comes the question. Are the 7 speeds a good tranny or should I find another OD tranny? What is the OD gear ratio? I'm hoping for 70 mph. I don't know my gear ratio in the rears. Where to look for the ratio or how to figure it out? They are Rockwells on Hendrickson suspension that I think came out of a White truck. I have drove it a little around home and figured it goes about 60 topped out the way it is. It had 10.00 20s on it and now its going to have 12R22.5 tires on it. Any thoughts? Bob
  8. Jease you could hear it start to knock! Why the frick wouldn't ya shut it down? Oh well I'm glad I wasn't involved!
  9. I really like OP's beer too! My favorite. After a couple of anything it all tastes good! If I'm buyin its usually Rolling Rock, Yuengling, and I'm kinda hooked on Straub for the moment. I'm glad to see that someone else knows about Straub!
  10. I do open the roof vent. It helps alot. I try opening the windows and all the other crap. It helps a little, but, I was hoping there was a better solution. I am thinking about the gogles wipes for riding four wheelers to keep them from fogging. Think its worth a try? I'll try the AC thing. Hopefully someone figures out something to fix this problem. Do the newer RDs have the same crappy defrosted system? Bob
  11. Well you make a good point. I have heard pickups and 1 tons with elec fans make a difference, but those are little and these are big and such... I don't think my fan works as good as it should. I think the fan cluch might be slipping. The pyro seems to get hotter faster, any ideas? Bob
  12. The only thing other than the dynaturd that sucks about my Superliner is the defrosters. It will barley keep the windows clear. It has good air flow. When the winsheild is clear it is so hot in the truck its unbearable. Then the side windows fog up, if they ever got un fogged. Any suggestions? Bob
  13. I was thinking about doing away with the original fan and installing an electric fan on the radiator of my Superliner. I was thinking increased HP (tho minor) better cooling and maybe increased fuel milage. What do you think. Bob
  14. Well Thanks for the replys. I was a little worried about it, because I have heard the horror stories about them from a few in town. This truck is about to be parted out, so I think I'm gonna have to save it. Cab is good, doors are just starting to rust, hood is bad but comes with a good, double frame is tight, Neway air ride, buds on front spoke rears. She's a beauty! It'll look good at my place! Hopefully...
  15. Alright, another E9 question probably already covered, but... Looking at a 1986 Superliner with an E9 450 hp engine. 250K original miles. What should I look for before I buy? Mostly the engine, I have a friend thats familiar with trucks I'm going to have look at the rest. He just doesn't know alot about the V8s. I have heard that around 300K they tend to eat the original cam. I also heard its big bucks to fix. It was an in town lowboy hauler. Had a tag axel. Didn't see what tranny or the hours. Also what am I going to have to do to juice it up to a 500 or a little more? Thanks, Bob
  16. Alright sounds like a go! I probably should get my ass in gear and sandblast and paint it so I can get some use out of it before winter. I can always put the tip turbine on when its cold. My truck has a 10 speed unishift. I should find a 6 speed to put in it, because I like to get after it once in a while. Thanks for the info, Bob
  17. I just had a tip turbine off a 285 2 valve given to me. First question, will it fit on my 2 valve 237? What else do I need to do to the engine to make the power? Third, will it all fit under the hood of my B61? And in the end is it worth going thru all the trouble? Bob
  18. I was wondering if anybody knew how much torque an E6 4 valve 350 hp engine put out? It is mechanical. Bob
  19. My friend helping me is a super perfectionist. Once in a while I have to lay the smack down and return him to reality. I guess when its all done it won't be perfect, but its mine and if you don't like it don't look at it.
  20. I like the idea of just paint it whatever color looks good to you. I painted the floor rustoleum green. You won't see it anyway. I thought they might all have been the same color inside, and wanted mine "right". I think I'll just take a pannel down and match up something close. I'm not looking to win a trophey with the truck, I just want it to look decent while I'm working it. Sounds like a plan to me! Bob
  21. I had trouble similar to yours with my n14 cummins. We had cut the fuel tank and shortened it, and didn't get it cleaned out good. I figured the filter would catch everything. It did, but not soon enough in line. Got to where it would skip, buck and jump. Here on the n14 the fuel runs thru the computer to cool it. All the shavings and such got trapped in there and cut the fuel supply short. I took the lines off and blew it out with air and it has been fine ever since. Not familiar with the newer Macks but maybe something similar. Bob
  22. My truck even has some Hydrolic hoses as air lines, Which is bad as far as the cops think, but they are tough as nails. By the time I paint everything they won't know the difference. If anything is said I'm gonna say thats how they used to do it, back when they built TRUCKS. Probably get out of it with a ticket of course. I prefer nylon because its easy to work with and it almost never fails. Copper (from my experiences) seems to split and or crack in some places due to vibration ect. Bob
  23. I always heard a trackloader was like tits on a boar hog. I don't have one or never ran one. I can see their place, but the excavators take over for the most part. Too much turning and moving. Maybe if I had one I would appraceate them more. I would guess my favorite would be either an Allis HD5 or an OC96 Oliver. Old school tho. Bob
  24. I think copper lines are dot legal as long as they are original equipment. I called the cop shop and talked with the DOT cop and he didn't give me a straight answer, but he said if it has an air rating and is DOT approved it is OK. Which like I said makes no sence, but as far as I'm concerned its original and once had a DOT rating! Hope this helps someone. But please correct me if I'm wrong. Bob
