  1. I don't think Volvo owns them? I think they just bought the articulated dump truck line?

Last I saw Terex does still exist? I think they are just more into the crushing and screening equipment now?

Not sure if they still have their crane division or if they sold it off?

OK now that’s just hilarious. I still have not gotten my smell back. I’m pissed and everybody seems to be OK with this like wow man. Bob

That's gotta suck Bob! That must be a weird sensation to have to live with. Even worse is the poor people that lost their sense of taste. They say you can't even stand to eat because your brain can't tell what is in your mouth?

  3. I still have all kinds of issues, but I was assuming it was from the vaccine? Because I get tested for covid every second week when I go back to work at the mine and I have never tested positive.

I only got first two because the mine mandated it or no job. Now they forgot all about it.

Co-worker of mine had a lot of issues too after vaccine and after getting no where here in Canada, he paid to go to a specialist in Michigan and found out he was having an allergic reaction to the vaccine.

I'm sure I am too, because I have never been sick.

  4. Lots of good stories of us all starting out. Good memories. I'll add to mine....I did first drive my father's friend's C500 Kenworth.

But when I got my first real full time job it was with that Ford LTS with the 5&4. I remember the day the owner called me. My friend used to work for him and had to quit so he recommended me since he knew I could drive that big C500.

Anyway, the gentleman that owned the Ford says on the phone "have you ever driven a 5&4 transmission?"

    I replied no.

"Well you're just going to haul in the steel mill so you'll have all day to figure it out.. be here in the morning."

And that's all it was. And I really owe a ton of gratitude to Mr. Lenny McQueen for trusting me and giving me my start.

It's over. At this point you couldn't hardly find a guy that can drive a truck with a manual transmission like an 18 speed in something with power who could drive something old with a Big Cam and an old 13 speed and keep it moving.

We should make them all test with a 6-71 and a 5&4 LOL

I would love to be a fly on the wall watching today's driver,,,  drive one with a 12 spd Mack tranny (1070B)  or even an Eaton super 10 Top-2...  I bet they would be pissed that the cell phone hand has to move a lever and flip a switch up+down... So many times.. :)

I miss the Mack 12 speed. Used to drive an MH Ultraliner with an E9500/12 speed pulling a 5 axle Raglan Hydra-glide dump trailer and a three axle belly dump.

That was a fun truck to drive.

all my trucks shut off at 64 mph.

can they do 85? hell yea, one we sold last year had the speed limiter removed and has clocked at 85....and he still had more to go.

the company truck foreman that now owns #8 asked me why i don't max out the speed, and i told then these trucks only have 45 mph brakes when loaded.. why would i want to go any faster than that?

luckily the owner and his #2 (the construction super) both like me and tell everyone to leave me alone.

all their project supers like me too except for one. he is always saying i am goofing off because i do at least one load less than everyone else. but i do not go over 50 mph loaded.

so i just do not go on his jobs when i rent out to them.

I know all about working with contractors like that with my dump truck. Which is why I am laughing about that post I put up of the big ore truck flipping and all their other mishaps in the mine here. I hired out to that contractor when I had my dump truck and they are a bunch of dicks.

Got some real good employees and foremen on the job sites.......but the upper office staff think everyone is a dime a dozen and you aren't worth a crap. So I am enjoying watching all their fails.

Is that the new one from the picture ? or just another one same spec ?   Either way, looks like a very expensive mishap , let alone it isn't doing any work for all this time.  holy cow.... what a waste .

No, the orange one I posted a pic of was new. $750,000 Canadian. This red one, one of two were bought used. They are Cat powered with Allison's and the new orange one is an X15 525 with an Allison. And this will be second time this unit gets floated out of here for major repairs.

Our speed limit is 60 KPH/40 MPH. I ran a few loads with one of the Cat wiggle wagons and the dash display showed our hills at 14 and 15%.

And these big Western Stars grossing 95 to 100 tonne.......as soon as they hit a hill that Allison goes right to first gear and all they can do is crawl.

They just floated in another excavator, a bigger Hitachi and they are supposed to do the recovery tomorrow but it is now POURING rain and supposed to change to snow tonight and tomorrow.

Should be a real treat. LOL

  9. Valid points for those that have bad knees and health issues.

And yes, there is something absolutely wrong with society now. Ever since I called it quits trucking, I went to work in a mine. We make very good money and it BLOWS MY MIND how many still don't care, have no common sense, no brains and are so lazy.

I grew up a worker and it KILLS me to see all this stupidity.

Also agree on another comment. I once came to a stop light at the bottom of a big hill that once through the intersection merged back into a single lane from a double.

I was beside a Mack Pinnacle/M-Drive pulling a live bottom trailer. I didn't want to get stuck behind it on the hill and thought this will be easy pickings with my 550 Cat.

Well I was shifting like I was in El Rodeo Du Camion race and it left me, LOL Automatics are fast. And again, another problem for newbies with inadequate training.

from what I'm seeing when passing big rigs is the fear all the highway signs will be getting changed to a different language sooner than expected. also seeing how the  "professional drivers" are getting worse then 4 wheelers..  too many cross 2 =3 lanes to exit highway as they pass the exit with obviously no regards to anyone on the highway with them. bring back the days of manual transmissions AND ALSO road maps NOT  telephones telling when to turn. felt bad after 50 yrs of having a CDL day I gave it up, now maybe it was a good move.

I only have 36 years and HAD to get out, LOL

1- thanks for the under chassis pictures for us model builders LOL. #2= maybe it's the mud cover ; I can't make out the brand of truck= one pic the front looks to be Mack, fenders/ rest don't. 3--any up date pictures of unit out of mud ??

It's a Western Star 6900XD. I have a post here with pics of the brand new one....in the Other Brand Trucks section under Western Star 6900XD I think.

And it's still in there on it's side. They haven't made another attempt yet, and it's supposed to rain then snow tonight, so should get interesting, LOL

What's that expression? "More money than brains."

I've been doing similar work myself 🤣. Sort of- just on a much smaller scale. I had to cut a couple of longer pieces of plank to make my lawn mower ramp. The first two were laying behind the shed but they were just the right length so that when you drove up them the back end would kick up and hit inside the mower deck when the front tires got to the top. The new improved longer ones work great, and the mower fits nicely in the shed.
