I looked at my 1996 Mack tune up book and the spec for HOT idle is 10-30 psi and at HOT wide open is 34-64psi.

Fuse 18 does the back up lights on ch/cl up to 1998 or non Etech engines. On 1999 and up Etech engined models its fuse 42 out under the hood.

Dont buy it unless its for local hauling or farm use. The 2004 CX and CH trucks had more warranty claims than any other trucks that Mack ever made. Later the CXN and CHN came out with the same engine but had most of the bugs worked out. We still have problems with EGR coolers(made in Mexico), VGT position sensors, EUP's and exhaust manifold gaskets. This is not to be confused with the 2004 CV's and vocational trucks which used a totally different version of the ETECH engine, thoses engines are great.

Raise the hood, below the windshields, look at the "cowl" "the black plastic piece that goes across the cab" On the bottom of the cowl, above the valvecovers there should be 2 rubber snounts that hang down( about 2 inches long). These snouts are water drains for the cowl. These snouts get plugged up with dirt and flies and trash, the water cant drain out of the cowl and then the cowl fills up and water drips into the cab and lands right onto the parking brake sending unit (above the throttle pedal) We see this all the time, remove the snouts and clean them out and replace the sensor and your fixed.

I've heard on these posts that the U in chu and cxu stood for ultra low sulpher fuel. If I remember right the chu and cxu changed from the chn and cxn in late 2005 or so. Ultra low sulpher fuel didn't start until 2007. Maybee the U stands for upgrade. Maybee someone knows the answer. Just curious.
U broke down.............sorry I couldn't help my self

Notice different horsepower ratings and no DPF exhaust filters.

Has any of the Titan's rolled off the assembly line yet? I know while doing warranty paper work, they do have serial #'s assigned to the Titans. It looks like whoever buys TD713 vin 001004 will get the first one built.

My friend up at Mack in Allentown told me today that Cat finally did come out and say they would not make any "truck engines" for the 2010 emissions. I dont blame them at all. The guy that lives across the street from me is a Cat equipment salesman and I saw him at his mailbox and asked him If its true and he said yes.

I had a humidity sensor going bad one time , making a hard starting problem, we thought it was loosing prime and we replaced everything and still had problem. The only way we found it was watching active code screen on laptop while cranking engine and code would pop up for 2 seconds then off then back on. By-pass the Davco then try it, also if fuel supply pump has plastic small screen/filter hanging off the bottom, change it also.

If the volvo and mack engines are pretty much the same mechanicaly would't the volvo d13 engines have roller rocker arm issues also like the mp8's.
Last week we did a injector cup job on an MP8 and the driver said they also had some new volvo's with the "same as MP8" engines and they were also having the problems as the Macks "as far as injector cups go". We have been lucky here as our MP-8 have mostly just had injector cup failures. But I just pulled in an MP8 and it had a bad miss and a code for #3 injector, when I removed the valve cover, the exhaust roller had locked up and gouged the cam. So it's cam time. By the way, the rocker arms have "VOLVO" casted into them, so they do use the same parts. Another funny thing, we had an MP7 turbo lock up today, we had one in stock and it came in a Cummins box, Holset make the MP turbo but is owned but Cummins. Customer saw this and thought we were putting Cummins parts on his Mack, we told him it would go faster and he was happy.

By fuel processor I guess you mean the fuel filter assembley that has the clear plastic bowl with the fuel filter in it? If so, it does have 2 heater (coolant) hoses that pump coolant through it to keep the fuel warm in the winter. If you just bypassed this by looping the hose back around to the engine, it should not have hurt any thing and the truck should run fine. I have seen some that used regular heater(rubber) hoses and some that used high pressure style(stratoflex) hoses to run coolant through the filter. If your's uses the high pressure style hoses you might have gotten the lines mixed up as the fuel lines look like the coolant lines. P.S. you need to put shutoffs one those coolant lines so in the summer, you dont heat the fuel so hot, we have had some low power complaints do to fuel heaters left on during the summer.

The dip switches on the back of the tach could be set wrong and then the tach would be off. Take to a mack dealer and let them plug a ProLink to it a see what the rpms are on the ProLink. If rpms are really 2300 the somethings wrong with the injection pump.

thank you for your help, the current truck I am looking at was a sheetrock dealivery truck with a boom to load and unload, so I wasn't sure how many hours/miles it would have, where are you getting your numbers from?
Do you happen to know about how many hours before a customary overhaul is needed?
There is no set average of hours vs miles, I'm just going by what we see around here. As far as overhaul, Mack says if it burns more than a gallon oil per 1000 miles it needs an overhaul, this is what they said in a service bullitin back in 2000. They were not concerned about blow-by at all, just oil consumption.
-
How many Miles are = to a hour on trucks, do you just take the hours and times that by 55 (mph) to get an estimate on miles on vocational trucks.
Yes, hours X MPH, But on dump truck around here 35mph is usually the max and I just checked an asphalt hauler and it was 13mph average. I just checked a CXU over the road truck and it was ave. 54 mph and it dosent idle at night due to having a APU generator insalled.

A somewhat large trucking company in our area just parked all their trucks about a month ago. They didnt go out of bussiness just parked them till either fuel comes down or freight rates come up. They have over 100 trucks, at one time they had about 16 Macks in their fleet(2000 CX's) but go rid of them and bought more freightliners.

I hope your buddy isn't planning on using this truck to make a living. The Volvo MP8 engine seems so far to have
about a 4% reliability rating. In other words, 96% of the new Volvo MP8 engines have failed. I know this from experience
since I have wrenched at the same Mack dealer for nearly 2 decades. Our local DOT bought 20 new Volvo Granites
last fall and none of them pushed a snowflake this past winter cause all of them were sitting in our lot waiting for
new engines or camshafts. All of them failed with less than 1000 miles on them. So far, I haven't seen a single new
Volvo MP8 run past 6000 miles without a major failure.
All the MP-8's around here are doing OK, we had 2 with injector cup failures and one with a broken rocker arm but other than that no problems. Most of the ones around here have 20,000-50,000 miles on them. The new download recall(PI663) is going to help with the injector cup failures. The owners love the better fuel mileage and the drivers love the power. All the MP-7's around here are doing good also.

With engine running, grab fuel pump plug(round gray plug at fuel pump) and shake it and twist it, see if engine dies or sputters. We replace alot of harnesses on CH models but not many on R series.

We just got in my buddies new 2009 CHU 612 that he ordered back in january. It's pretty sharp, adding some chrome to it today. Its gonna be a handfull with that short wheelbase and MP-8 engine. He 's trading in his 2000 CH613 with 950000 miles on it, its never had the heads or oil pan off, orignal clutch, a/c compressor everything orignal except belts, brakes and 1 EUP. It's been the perfect truck. Hope this new one holds up as well. Wish I had a better camera, the 09 is pretty slick.

Thats the first Liberty edition RW I have ever seen, We have a couple of MH's Liberty editions with V-8's around here, one just a mile from my house.

You could email it to me

Thanks for the help
I'll send it in the morning when I get 2 work, its on my work pc.

I enclosed a wiring diagram for fuse 41. We had some problems with wires rubbing and shorting to ground on to of trans. There are 2 plugs onto of trans, 1 says pto and the other is torque limit, make sure those wires are not shorted to ground.
My pic of diagram is 2 big to put here, will try to shrink it down later and put it on here.
-
I think fuse 41 also powers something else, I think the PTO harness on top of the transmission. I have had this problem before. I'll look at the wiring diagram in the morning and let you know.

Yes it is a e-tech engine and you were right the fuse 41 was blown and I replaced it and it blew imediatly. I unpluged the fan clutch solonoid and it still blew the fuse.
I wonder how I could trace down the wiring short? could it be a sender causing the problem?

If this an E-TECH engine ( most 99 engines are), check fuse 41 in fuse box under hood ( on firewall, above drivers side front tire) If its good, unplug fan clutch solenoid and turn key on and you should have 12 volts at on of the 2 pin on the harness side plug.

While I was looking on the end of some shelves for a fuel line, I felt down between the wall and the shelf and pulled this out. We got the part back on 1/22/68. I was born 3 months later. I,m going back under the shelves to look some more.
