  1. Diesel engines like to have cooler air coming in. Most fire apparatus that have gasoline powered engines back then used the air that was drawn in from inside the engine box. Hot air. Gasoline engines didn't really care that much. Diesel engines like the cooler air, drawn from the exterior of the engine box, and yes, they also require a lot more air. The physics of air movement did tend to restrict (to a certain extent) the air going into a diesel when the intake was inside the engine box. We had a 1978 Hahn with a 671T Detroit (shut up you morons, I was 6 years old when it was delivered and I had nothing to do with it........) that had a square Farr intake/filter on the inside of the engine box. Later in life we switched it out to an exterior-mounted and much larger cannister-type intake/filter. She ran a hell of a lot better after that.
  2. Ken no thanks the only thing I wanna see is an innocently-placed tattoo on a TK girl or other NIT.
  3. Wait.....Ken.......weren't you there with the 7th Ohio Infantry????? You should know the dates.
  4. Ken, yes......However Lee and Meade's forces engaged on July 1-2-3 in 1863, which is when the re-enactments are held; not May 27-30......LOL...........
  5. I don't think I am going to make it Lads. A lot of stuff going on this summer, plus "Medium", who has taken a huge interest in the Civil War, asked to go to Gettysburg for his bday, to see the re-enactments. Gonna cost me a few bucks but he's a good kid, gets good grades and doesn't ask for much so I'm gonna take him. Plus we still have family vacation to NC/SC later this summer, and everything else in between. Macungie, of course is a no-brainer and is non-negotiable!!!
  6. Eddeere yes the 707A is one of Mack's most popular gasoline engines.
  7. You misspelled "you should make pieces of Detroits" And the words "Peace" and "Detroit" cannot be used in the same paragraph, let alone sentence.
  8. If it's that bad.......You really should consider a complete tear down.
  9. Now that's a great looking Detroit!!!!
  10. You'll have to let me know how things are- I told the wife that if Hillary gets elected POTUS, we're packing up and moving to Australia or NZ.....or the Moon.
  11. It's a conspiracy
  12. Vlad, have you ever used dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide) to freeze the liners (shrinks them) before you pressed them into a block? I remember my father doing this when he did a cylinder kit (in-frame) on one of his F-Models and it worked like a charm. He was able to put the liner in by just tapping it with a small dead-blow mallet and a block of soft wood.
  13. Wait.....I don't understand......You had time to stop at the playground, but no time to push the girl in the swing?
  14. Well, I didn't want anything to detract from the beauty of the F.W.D. buuuut since you asked.......
  15. I wouldn't know, I was always in the Principal's office.
  16. Ahhhhhhh now I understand!!!! Thank you Lads!!!
  17. "driving the T404 with a new three rows of eight trailer" Can youplease translate this to east coast US English. Thank you!!
  18. Best of luck! Send lots of pics!!! We all know you'll miss the snow!!!
  19. Leslie you have seen the Mistress before but for the un-initiated among the masses in BMT land:
  20. The FWD is full time, non-selectable AWD. The three diffs (1 each axle and one in the 4x4 splitter) all lock from a vacuum switch on the dash. I do not get my boots muddy.
  21. Ohhhhhhhhhhh now I get it.............The (very very few) few times that I have ever started to slip I would just throw her in creeper gear. One time in some mud I even had to lock all three differentials.........Just one time though.........LOL
  22. I still don't understand what this "snowbound" or "getting stuck" means......can someone esplain?
  23. Joe, yes let me dig.
  24. Huh. Weird. I don't have these issues with my toy.
  25. I know I have more pics somewhere of the reduction set, shaft alleyway....gotta find them.
