Not sure I believe this shot..for sure photoshop-look at "hard hats"..but Pete looks like the shithead he is.  Hippy when I saw the cartoon with him sitting in the excavator I have to say first picture I saw of him at the scene I  had that instant memory of Dukakis in the tank..classic.

It's a South Bend, believe it or not, from 1916!! Got it from a gentleman I worked for in high school. It was his father's and he used to build race cars. It's very complete and had a lot of accessories/attachments that came with it. It sat in my shop for a long time before I hooked it all up. Not the easiest lathe to set up due to having to mount the drive pulleys to the ceiling. I wouldn't want that crashing down on you while you work. Certainly not the most modern one I've operated and I'd love to have a more modern one, but the price was right. It certainly comes in handy for the work I do. The biggest thing I've turned were the 85# front brake drums for the B73 to open up the pilot holes. Here's a few pics of it.

Well this just adds to the "big picture" on your restoration.  Lot of comment on  this so guys if you have never been to Greenfield Village in Dearborn Mich. you should take the trip.  I t was set up by Henry Ford and is a tribute to what this country was at the turn of the century.  All kinds of shops recreated and when you go in them you see all the old machinery-like Matt's lathe-

Gutting this 220 out. Removed the important camshaft today. Quite the effort to get to it. Threw it on my lathe to spin it by hand and clean it. Pushrods are all serviceable, saving about $800+ for new ones. Getting to the connecting rods tomorrow. As crusty and gummed up as this block is, it seems in better shape than the one I have. The deck is really clean and it is newer, 1964 vs 1959. So it could become a runner if mine proves bad or uneconomical to rebuild.

    Matt,

Tell us about that lathe!!!  Looks like there is some history there😎

I agree my 066 leaks if its not left on its side! Used to use husky 2100 for my logging projects but when that saw wore out I switched to stihl  Its a beast just eats the wood! As an addition to the comments Iv'e always avoided posting to personal attacks  on members ! Even to defend a person your better to withhold comment! just tends to stir up shit!

Guys- are you saying leaks gas-like inside cylinder?  don't see how that is possible but my 036 sometimes would get like "hydrolocked".  Very experienced guy told me if you don't store on side it will "leak".  I've pulled plug and plug was wet-shine light in bore-that looked wet.  I've left it open, cranked it a lot to cycle piston, then it would be okay.

    that possible?

That was quick. Got the engine back from the machine shop. I think it has the right patina to match the truck!! Actually, a “Loaner” clapped out 220 a friend loaned me so I can rob parts off to fix mine. A bunch of internal parts need to be replaced on mine that we found on tear down.

Nice find Matt.  And after all the hard and beautiful work you have done, keep the old saying in mind....."penny wise and pound foolish"😎

I guess I am stupid and don’t know what I’m doing because I struggle with the cap for the chain oil with my Stihl chain saw. The gas one isn’t quite as bad but the bar oil I seem to fight with a LOT. Did you ever get smarter with yours ?  (Not to high jack the thread but……)

LTK, Not to worry..the wife and kids bought me an 036 like 31 years ago..I have invoice $525 back then.  Oil cap, old school threads..work great..but as my old oil soaked winter coveralls  will verify , you just have to put it on!

Its in the shop now...I'd have to take out a mortgage to pay for its replacement model today.  In the meantime borrowed my son's MS 211..doing small stuff with it..love that inertia start system or whatever you call it.

Paul had found him a new bride

Shifted and was in the process of building her a hotted 55 Chev wagon I think it was

He appeared to of had a major falling out with his kids as he wanted to leave them nothing, only receipts as he stated

And then he up and vanished

He was always good to me

It was his wifes and his dream to build that veterans home before she passed as I recall it

I seem to recall Paul saying he came home from Vietnam to a country he didn't like and he and his new wife shifted to Israel for a new start in a new country was how I remember Paul describing it to me

I think he moved back to the State's when they retired ???? Nothing more than feeling to base that on

And yes when all the chest beating and pissing competition was going on here was when I last saw anything from Paul

Pretty sure he was on the ACMOC Caterpillar group as well for a while

Dunno we lost a lot of members due to ego's and people not wanting to listen and people wantingnto be right  at all costs, sad but thats the way it was

A lesson for all of us

As to "if I dont like something I just scroll on" type of attitude, I dont think that works either as thats what started this whole mess

To many good people stood by and watched stuff happen, mind you the slanging match could be entertaining to read

"Just leave it tto our moderators to sort out"  didn't work as they turned on one of our moderators and the  other moderators appeared to  do nothing about that either

Basically we all know what good manners and been respectful are and we should just do that and we as a group should pull others into line that dont use manners

Anyway I hope Paul 41chev is happy doing what ever he is doing

    Paul

Well for  sure 41Chev was a guy who confirmed  I didn't know squat because he seemed to have so  much varied  knowledge.  We had a  connection in the sense he was a marine contractor and I was a "customer" for such guys.  Plus we operated in same turf-New England and NYS-in particular Long Island.  I remember when his wife passed away that really bummed him out as you would imagine--I  can relate to that.  But then he met up with this Israeli gal and I think they got married.. I kind of assume he ended up in Israel???

As for his veteran's home project I  thought he was trying to do that in Maine..I  think Gorham to be exact.  I always invited him to let me know when he was going or coming from Maine as I was a couple of miles off 495 and would be a good brewski, coffee or piss call, but  he never followed jup.

But for sure a knowledgeable  guy with a high energy level.  Always added to the conversation..as did Jim Hancock and KSC to  name a couple of others.  Jim came down for our show in August and 2stacksuper dog as well as Paul?-guy with beautiful black Superliner dump was there..and also Jeff Manty.  Should have got them together for a group photo

  10. Well I do believe Roadway had some U's that had 8V-71's  they had raised cabs and ugly front fenders  to accomodate the the V-8.   they did the same for those that put V-903's in them.   Only question I would have would be which major carrier in that era did NOT have a U or two😎

On a similar note I'm on 495 today and I pass a "YRC" Volvo.  On the cab door in small letters it makes reference to Yellow Freight.  Never see the "Big R" name anymore on anything or so it seems.

    Biden/Fetterman 2024: It's a no-brainer!

    😂

Well Rowdy you think you are making a joke.  Guess what..an NBC "journalist" - Katy Tur-was on some talk show comprised of other loons and actually suggested because "Lurch" did so well in a couple of counties he "just might be a candidate fort a presidential run"..  Actually some in the group started laughing as in WTF but this dumb ass was serious!!

  12. Well guys my two cents as I see it, in a lot of cases, in the primaries Trump endorsed candidates that many said were the less qualified/capable than their opponents who won the nomination-but they blew smoke up Trump's ass.  Like OZ....a celebrity, but viewed by a lot of PA people as an outsider.  How can you lose to Fetterman--a guy who couldn't express a thought, was hostile to our energy industry, and  is always dressed up like he is ready to go trick or treating????  Note he was always wearing Carhartts ..like he ever got his hands dirty!!

But in any case I looked at these Trump backed candidates and said.."hope they win".  But I thought the silver lining if they lose?  This will diminish Trump's appeal.  And we can move on in '24.

But guess what, Trump couldn't for once keep his mouth shut and announced the day before.."I'll be making big announcement on the 15th".    Again ...always about him!  I'm convinced that was a final straw for a lot of undecided voters.  Just like in 2020 election-I believe in the theory that a lot of Biden votes were not votes for Biden- they were "anybody but Trump " votes.

I heard a comment on Fox yesterday AM, don't recall who made it but said.."there is much support for Trumpism, but NOT for Trump."  Meaning a lot of his policy actions were correct, but his ego, personality will always turn off too many who say.."give me a break"!

Like his attack on DeSantis and Pence the other night.  You can bet he is scheming right now as to how  he can piss on the DeSantis parade.

As I've said before, I voted for him twice as the lesser of two evils, but next time, the Dems will learn something-you would think??..and they will have a real candidate versus an empty suit like Sleepy Joe

On another note, Hippy..you should  publish a book with all those cartoons  you have posted...would be a best seller!
