Yeah, but I think a lot of things might of been a little touchy for them and I was bought up not to ask questions, a very different up bringing to people  today

    Paul

Your comment is timely Paul.  Having a conversation with my youngest and his wife this morning on this subject.  Her grandfathers were unique, one US Army, WW II and Korea, and the other flew in the Luftwaffe.  He and my daughter in laws dad came to US in 1956.  Talk about that family's reunions!  Neither of the grandfathers were willing conversationalists when it came their experiences.

I also had good friends I worked with who were in Vietnam-including two West Point grads.  One got a Purple Heart as a dump truck hit a mine when they were building a road...he got the PH as he had ear damage-he would talk a lot..  The other was a Ranger who saw all kinds of stuff...not so much.  A lot of them also were supply types who had steak and beer very often.

Before you get into conversations with these guys you should know their feelings on this.

ALL funerals are sad events ;when attending one such as You posted, and see the group of trucks attending it shows a gathering of the greatest friends respecting  the loss of one of their own. Sorry for Your loss. I attended Mass this morning which was given on the passing anniversary day of a good ole  farmer from town I am honored to have known. has been said " longer you live the more funerals you attend. any age someone passes is bad ; when the ole timers pass , knowledge lost is unreplaceable.

For sure, The last of my WW II veteran uncles passed away and I start thinking of all the things I did NOT ask them about

Bob, Did you get stuck yesterday?    .....Hippy

No - Broncos and the B were on pretty solid  ground. I was home at like 6:30 and before I put B away had a short cloud burst. But I  heard this morning  that while I had a quick cloud burst, down on the Fair Grounds-like  mile and a half away it rained so  hard there was water running down road by pole barns.  Lucky that didn't happen when most guys were leaving

By the way you and Rick continue to get good press..Boston Trucker has you in video.

  4. Guys I  have a 22 F-150, STX with a 5.0.  and 3.31 gears.  When I bought it I ignored fact it did not have an E locker dif and figured it would not be a problem,  Well it is helpless on wet grass!  So I bought it to replace my old Ranger which someone wanted for a good price and the 150 was a "placeholder" until I felt the new Rangers had their bugs worked out.  Long story short I'm beginning to like that Coyote power so I'm thinking of getting a 23 with same specs other than rear axle.  Not many 23 5.0's out there in STX trim and most elockers are 3.31.s  There are a few 3.73's as well so while the 3.31 is great when you are on an intersate, It is not the best for pulling my skid steer trailer and 4720 Deere

Anyone have any experience with a 5.0 powered 150 with either ratio?  I thinking the 3.73 would upshift quicker thereby running more miles with the higher ratio.

    Any opinions?

So pissed I missed this show, it's one of my favorites. One of the few where it's almost equal distance for my brother and I to meet up, like Brooklyn. I wish it moved back to the Fall, it's a lot easier for me to attend. This weekend is flat out for work, every year.

Matt...priorities!  Unfortunatley at times earning a living wins out😎

It's a 24' Jerr Dan roll back with a 10K winch. The deck is a wood inlay. I'm going to use Apitong, a red Brazilian hard wood, for the decking. It's used a lot for trailer flooring. I'm ordering it through Atlantic Trailer over in Cheshire.

The late Phil Noonan.  Fruehauf salesman who bought the Wallingford  branch..great guy!  You going to make your show debut tomorrow?

Hope to see you there..it will draw a crowd with or without a body😎

That's not my picture, I saw it on Facebook.

This reminds me of a Ford commercial "back in the day.  It was a picture of a trailer with all the logos of the big carriers who were running

Fords. If my memory serves me right ABF may be the only one in that group still  alive.

He passed a few years ago. I am in contact with his daughter and son in law. The son in law runs the company now and has for some time. I do keep them updated on my progress and send them pictures. Some of which made it to the previous owner before he passed. I'm also in touch with the original owner's nephew in Texas, he was from New Fairfield, CT before relocating his trucking business there. I did track down the original owner, too, and he came by the house in 2004 to see the truck, albeit in pieces. He was amazed the truck still existed and that I was able to track him down.

Ancient history is  part  of  the fun IMO..in particular when the truck is not too removed from the original  owner(s).

Here's the traditional noon picture of the BMT members in front of the Watt's Mack tent at high noon. Kind of a light turnout this year.

  11. In my "youth"-ugh 60 years ago😟- VoTech schools were pretty much trade high schools-they taught the basic trade specialties- automotive, electrical etc.  Today it seems they no longer just focus on a trade as a final objective but give the kids a pathway if they want to go on to a two or  four year degree program.

In any case, I think more and more there is an awareness that a technical/trade education is a far more useful way for kids to spend their time than going to school and pursuing some 'liberal arts"  education.

  12. Bullheaded...A good topic but as I see it, unfortunately driven by what some think of as the pure economics..between "autos are cheaper in long run vs clutches, u joints etc" and "I can't find experienced drivers to run my business".

But like so many here, how did we start?  Not at the top for sure.  In my case, I had an uncle that was a mason contractor.  He had an F-5 Ford dump-flathead and a non synchro 4 spd. I'm a 16 year old kid.  His lesson in "double clutching" was a two minute speech beside the truck! Two years later I'm off to college and my summer job was working for a contractor as a "driver/laborer/operator"-345 V8 Binder 5 and 2.- I drove it like it was a 10 speed.  After college I start my "career" and when I became a terminal manager, I remember guys coming in applying for driving jobs..just out of driving school with a class 1 license. My advice to them was always ..."do yourself a favor, get a job driving a straight truck.. get comfortable with a non synchro trans and get a feel for the road..do this before you start worrying about where the trailer was".

Today?  As many have already stated..."have a license? "  case closed. and to compound the problem in Mass when a guy tests today for a license if road test is on an auto the license issued has an "auto only" restriction.  I imagine that is the case in a lot of states.

But if you think our world has a problem, look at the airlines!  The military was the feeder for pilots.  Today not the case-United I believe is about to start their own "training program".  Now THAT is scary.

he he . that was my username on the falcon site for 30 years.
it is a 65 2 Door hardtop.  289 with C4 trans, and 52,000 miles on it.

    came from florida.

driver side head gasket was seeping coolant into the oil, so i pulled it apart to freshen the engine.

i am not $8,000 into the "freshen of the engine"  with a 400 hp 302, fresh trans, limited slip rear, front disc brakes, stripped to bare metal and epoxy primered, new floorboards, new interior, power windows, and just about everything else new or restored.

i am hoping to have it finished by fall.

Very Nice!.  Every now and then one of those will show up at BJ or Mecom auctions..a nice alternative to Mustangs/Camaros.  Old guy that I am I remember when in 63 they were really into performance and they came out with the Falcon Sprint, first time they stuck a V-8-a 260, in the Falcon.

I saw it on our local news last evening. They said it was a Sheetz tanker. That is a straight stretch of road with lots of crazy traffic. I agree on maybe medical or maybe someone cut him off. Sad for the driver and his family.

Thx Harry...If in fact a Sheetz then to the best of my knowledge they run nothing but big tanks...first class equipment always. And I think they have a good safety program that starts with hiring process.

  17. Anyone have any info on this?  Looks like  a head on into  a big tree..  Almost looks like it was a straight job and tank came right off frame.  Or maybe a short trailer.  If I  had to bet might have been a medical..straight stretch of road, no other vehicles involved.
