  1. Does anyone know much about ceramic coating? Would you spend the money and put it on a brand new truck? Can the truck be lettered after it has been coated?
  2. steepest probably 6% or so. Freightrain, I had the same thought.
  3. It would be in a tractor. Max weight about 73,000lbs yes it would be a double over.
  4. Would a 3.79 and 13 speed fuller be a decent setup for local dump work? Or would the ratio be too numerically low? The other choice would be a 3.98. Thanks in advance.
  5. But if all the Mack dealers have the same owner I wouldn't think I would get different quotes from them.
  6. I'm looking to order a new day cab. I want to time it so it comes in about Feb 2021. My question is this however...what kind of negotiating power do I have if all the local Mack dealers are owned by the same company? Or do I have to negotiate with a different brand and tell the Mack salesman what I can get from, let's say Kenworth?
  7. Hey guys just wondering your opinion on the difference or preference between the Mack T300 series (13 speed) vs. an Eaton (13 speed). Ive always driven Eaton-Fuller manuals and never a Mack manual trans. thanks
  8. I had weird problem the other day. I just left the yard and a block down i lost all electrical power. She was dead as a door nail for about 2 minutes. All power came back and she started fine. I did check all connections and they were tight. Got going again and another block down she lost power again. Same thing again. Few minutes later powered back up again. Limped back to the yard. I did something a few days prior that I didn't think would do anything. On my batteries i have one of those 3 terminal power cables with a stud on the top of it to connect the positive cable to the truck. I always used this top stud but moved it because it doesnt let the battery box cover sit flat (it's covered so the metal stud doesn't come in contact with the metal box cover). So I moved the positive cable to the middle battery stud and then put this three way power cable on top it. So I switched it back and haven't had a problem. All batteries tested good. Can someone tell me what happened? thanks.
  9. Nah. I did check that already. I got them off and they were beat up pretty good. One was frozen even though I greased the $%^& out of it.
  10. Sometimes it works out to about every 3 weeks. I don't run this truck everyday. But you know how it is 454. Sometimes my hips knees and ankles could use some grease.
  11. i do local semi-dump so the truck takes a beating...... so every 2500 miles.
  12. Correct me if I'm wrong. There should be zero free play when i push up on the drive shaft. I have a little on the first U joint at the transmission, none at the next one off the carrier bearing, a little on the one going into the front tandem and a little on both on the tail shaft. I haven't changed them in about 10 years so I don't remember if any free play was acceptable. I didn't think it was. Thanks guys.
  13. Changed the purge valve and that solved the problem. Thanks boys.
  14. I had a remack engine E7-427 installed in 2008. $22,000. Still runs like a champ. A few small issues...injectors, EUPs, etc. but doesn't use oil and likes to pull. I'm still using original turbo and exhaust manifold off the old engine. If Mack made glider kits I would love to take this engine with me and put it in an Anthem.
  15. I have an AD-SP. I've always had to change the cartridge twice a year. Even through different compressors (and a reman engine) I've always had a dirty system. I do local dump work so that won't help things.
  16. Anyone use/install a steer axle damper/stabilizer? If so what brand and did it do what it's supposed to?
  17. 1998 Ch 613 The purge valve was stuck open the other day and I lost air (compressor running). I knew I had a filled up air dryer cartridge. I change the cartridge twice a year as my system has always been "dirty". So I put the new cartridge on and it seemed to solve my problem for a few days. But for those few days the purge seems gradual and long not that quick psss you normally get. Now it seems to be sticking open again. I lose air but not as fast as before. Is the dryer/purge valve shot or do I need to start looking somewhere else? Thanks in advance.
  18. Welcome Glenn. I to am getting ready to retire; spent most of my time on an engine and some on a tower ladder. You know what we say about you rescue guys (squad guys here in the midwest)? You guys have real short __________!!!! (attention span? fill in the blank. LOL) There's a lot of great guys on this site and they appreciate truckers banter which is similar to the firehouse banter.
  19. You guys have any suggestions for decent cab shocks? 98 CH613 day cab....I used to get mine from the Mack dealer. Expensive but ok. Don't know who makes those. My last round were Gabriels. Only lasted 16,000 miles. I may try Monroe next unless you guys have another suggestion. Bouncing around the quarries doesn't help but I think I should be doing better than 16,000 miles. Thanks in advance.
  20. Is the pick up tube in the deep part of the pan?
  21. I've never changed an oil pan before. What am I checking for...the tube hitting the bottom of the pan and not allowing it to come in contact with the block? If this is the case can the tube be changed or shortened?
  22. I’m getting ready to order a pan from them too. My current stock pan is 33 quarts. The one they have that matches is 28 quarts. Is this something I should be concerned about?
