Penetrating oil probably won't do much good in this case, but far as penetrating oil goes PB Blaster works better than anything i've ever used.
-
I didn't have any Magnum pictures from truck shows, might try Hank's truck pictures.
-
Have you ever had one of those cheap extension lighters that never seem to work? This guy seems to have a new way of lighting the fireplace.
Carl is kinda dumb-when the safety department found the gallon of gas in his truck that he was carrying in case it caught fire and told him to get it out of there he should not have dumped it in the fire place!
-
very true alot of these drivers know nothing about the systems which really sucks but he said he smelled plastic burning and saw a lil bit of smoke (passenger inner fender assembly) and didnt think it was serious this truck is a Swift Transportation unit but who is really at fault you can argue it all day its just one of those deals thats not that common before you know it all the bugs will be worked out of this system just in time for the feds to change it again...lol
oh...Swift driver...'nuff said! The gallon of gas still might not be a bad idea though, just in case it did catch fire.

Where is "over there"?
Rob
they're talking about the corporate forum.

niceeeeeee
ain't it? some of the finest boobage i've ever seen!

It is not uncommon for some guys to us a inpact wrench to take the plugs out and i do that on cats. But it is a sin to tighten a pan plug with a impact. but it happens some times.I think a man who would do that may do other things that we would not approve of. glenn
I think they just use a big adjustable wrench at the shop to tighten them.

Well HELLO There.
Been busy with yard work, getting truck ready for the week.
Grease monkey son had his BD, so had to do the family thing.
Gambi may be right. Over "there" talkin trash bout Petes and KW.
Also, the new guy prolly has them all hittin a drink with his shit talk.
...and putting down dumbass truck drivers
-
Yup, seen that several times through the years on all engines. Just snug with the plug is all that's needed. Some think you need to put 150 ft. pounds against em or they'll leak......
Rob
well, the truck was supposed to be ready by 5 o'clock but the Cat place just called and said plan "A" failed and they had to wait for the epoxy to dry, so it'll be in the morning. Epoxy?..musta put Caterpillar J.B.Weld on it. Got a load of lumber sitting at the yard going to Frankfort,Ky. that I was supposed to run tonight.

we just got our first scr truck with a regen issue in today and what a problem it was there was a malfuction with the programming..apparently both aftertreatment injectors stuck open and the dumbass driver said ya it started to get real hot in the cab and smelled real funny but i thought it was normal. Needless to say truck went boom...i hope it is still at the shop in the morning and its not being towed back to its terminal so i can get some pics and post them on here what a mess techs just start to get to know the ins and outs of the old dpf system and manufactuers seem to have almost all the kinks worked out then they go ahead and change it again and royally f it up i hope its still there.......Guys We Are In Trouble.....if your a drinker your gonna become an alcoholic and if you dont drink its a great time to start...lol
maybe the driver has not driven an scr truck before and didn't know what it's supposed to do and not supposed to do. I wouldn't know either, so i'm a dumbass too. Guess i'd carry a gallon of gas with me and have all my belongings where I could grab them quickly.

Navistar will bury everyone else. They do not use SCR on their smaller engines. They have banked enough emission credits to get them by whilst they properly develop SCR for the small engines if ever at all. The SCR on their big blocks is well done, as well as freightliner's SCR, V*lv*'s SCR is a band-aid solution because they had SCR in europe and DPF in North America in 2007, and now for 2010 instead of designing 1 integrated system, they chose to just ADD the SCR portion on for North America and the DPF portion for europe. Please don't ask how I came about with all this information because I really cannot say, however just remember, everyone is in the same boat until they develop an ammonia re-circ system like Honda has on their european diesels. The design just needs to be scaled up for Class 8 trucks. Honda gave SCR the finger for 2010 in their diesel accord (60mpg). Kudos.
Navistar is also developing their new EGR engine with the C-15 Caterpillar engine as the base, since Cat is out of the heavy truck engine market. They recently purchased some kind of valve technology from Holley (yep, the carb. people) to use on this engine. You're probably right about them burying everyone else when they get this engine on the market.

I agree but what he was originally referring to is the early maxidyne pistons that we had here used to burn up and fail if you gave it too much fuel. When the Econodyne series with the front intercooler was released they fitted better pistons to them with a better insert around the top to stop them burning. At the same time they fitted heavier Con Rods as some of the earlier maxidyne rods failed. We used to set the 237 pumps up to the specs of the 285 and fitted 285 turbos, but you have to watch the Pyrometer on a long hard pull to keep the heat under control. As Rob said you need a 10 or 12 speed transmission to get the best out of them.If you increase the torque screw, the extra fuel at low revs puts a lot more strain on the bottom end of the motor and the early blocks were not as heavy as the later E6 blocks. Best regards - Michael.
Yeah, I don't know about all that stuff. I'm just a truck driver, and that's what we used to- I meant, that's what I heard of other drivers doing. Guess that's why it was a good way to get fired. I always went by "don't mess with it if you don't know what you're doing" so I never touched nuthin'.

To the best of my limited knowlege there is no difference in the pistons and liners between the two engines. They are both Maxidyne series. The differences are in the injection cycle dictated by the injection pump governor settings, and timing of the injection cycle. A sound 237 Mack engine will reliably output 300 horsepower and plenty of torque with some type of charge air cooling, and recalibration of the injection pump assembly. This is a balance power package and only working with part of the system will not yield the long term durability if this balance is upset.
If you recalibrate the pump from the Maxidyne series settings and don't install a transmission with more gears, (Maxidynes typically had five, or six speeds) the engine will seem to fall on it's face as the spread is too wide.
Rob
just taking the cover off the top of the pump and "giving 'er a couple of rounds" (turning the fuel up) will make a 237 go like a scalded dog. Little dab'l do ya'. Used to be a sure fire way to get fired, breaking the seal on a pump. If it's your own truck you'll have to fire yourself if you turn it up.

Mute.
oh no, this time it's different. they changed the oil and serviced it Friday at our shop and stripped the threads in the oil pan when they took the drain plug out. Said they've had several do that. They're gonna take the oil pan off at Cat and fix it. Jimmy welded the plug in and put some silicone around it and I went to Ohio and back, dripping oil all the way.

Is it the 1200 HP on e bay?
uhhh...I didn't notice.she could have been standing by the space shuttle and I prolly wouldn't have noticed.
-
Oh master of the photoshop...thought maybe you'd air brush out the suspension...
Yea its fairly quiet...maybe all the important people are in the 'corporate forum'. Someday when I learn how to hack, I'm going to snoop in there and see what all goes on.
I cropped too much of the picture-she's actually admiring a V8 Superliner, just out of the picture to the left
-
geez, sure is quiet around here!

Hi there Daniel,

DoubleL's ad

That B-53 was at Huntsville, and just freshly completed at that time.
I was very surprised to see it in the California auction.
It's a really, really well done truck for someone who wants a great toy.
Paul VS
Yep, I went back and looked at it in the Showtime magazine. Didn't remember seeing it before, but there it was.
I see they've got an ATHS show in Knoxville April 9th. and 10th. I better tell nocluejoe so he can go and take some pictures for us.
One in Cookeville in Sep. too.
-
Nice! I didn't get mine yet.
We had advertised in there before, but our contract ran out and they never called to remind us. Just started a new 1 year contract! (WoW, advertising prices have really skyrocketed!
)
yeah, I can imagine-everything else has.
-
Got the new one this week, lots of good stuff in it! Thought i'd pass these along in case you don't get it. Like one of the prettiest B-53S's i've ever seen-they're going to auction it off at the national ATHS convention, along with lots of other old trucks. And a Watt's Mack ad. Oh, and Double L's having an antique truck show too.
