Got back to work this week, after having no paycheck last week. Shoulda got AFLAC I guess. I went to Metals USA in Ambridge, Pa. Monday with a 60' load of beams then loaded almost 49,000 lbs. of angle and channel in North Jackson, Oh. going to Petersburg, Va. Reloaded another 60' load of beams going to Oneal Steel in Ambridge, Pa. to deliver Friday morning, then brought a load of firebrick back from Alliance, Ohio to deliver in Madison Heights tomorrow. Should all be pretty good paying loads.
Picked the first produce out of the garden today. Cut a head of cabbage to make cole slaw-delicious on that venison barbecue I made yesterday!
    took some pictures this week-
this is what I saw walking in the front yard when I got up Saturday morning-Jo in a robe, her Snoopy pajamas, and wearing my steel toed work boots.
    a truck on a pole...
and some pictures taken on Sandstone mountain in West Virginia, showing both runaway ramps.

I left here Monday and had to go to Petersburg to load a Roxana, Il. load. That makes a long day. It's about 100 miles east to Petersburg. I didn't get to Roxana until about 3 o'clock Tuesday evening, and didn't get unloaded until Wednesday morning. At least I got a return load out of Granite City, only a few miles from Roxana. Bad part was it was going to Baltimore, scheduled for Friday morning delivery. Then I had a load to pick up in Sparrows Point, about 2 miles from where I unloaded. Good load too, 2 coils going to Lynchburg. Then I could deliver that tomorrow, but...they screwed around so long unloading me in Baltimore it was too late to load it and I had to come home empty and pick up a 2 stop load of lumber at the yard going to Ohio. The stops are nowhere near each other either, one's near Marion and the other's near Akron. So i'm leaving today.
And, on top of that the tool box door on my trailer decided to come open on the way home Friday and I lost most of my beveled wood, coil racks, a roll of plastic, some corner protectors, and i'm not sure what else was in there. Usually it took a jackhammer and a crowbar to get it open, but this time it just came open on it's own. Couldn't say for sure that somebody didn't check it out to see if there was anything in there worth stealing and then didn't fasten the doors good when they saw there wasn't, but who knows.
Got a few pictures this week too-

Once again I have returned from a week of hauling freight up and down our nation's highways...nothing exciting or out of the ordinary happened, which is good.I went to Avon,Oh. Monday, reloaded at Macedonia for Roanoke, then took a load from Dillwyn to Zelienople,Pa. and reloaded at Pittsburgh back to Lynchburg.Got that off this morning and picked up a load of Kyanite at Dillwyn going to Fremont,Oh. to deliver Monday. I'll be leaving Sunday. Next weekend i'm making a stew, and I wish you all could come. I have a 7 1/2 gallon cast iron stew pot,and make it over a wood fire.I'm not bragging but lot's of people say it's the best stew they ever ate.I make it the same way every time, so it comes out seasoned the same with the same ingredients, right at 7 1/2 gallons. The pot is full, and there's always plenty. If any's left over I can freeze it.That's a lot of stew, but 20-30 people can put away a lot of stew, though last year I had a very light turnout. I just use beef, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, corn, green beans, peas, butterbeans (some people call them lima beans,I call them butterbeans ),secret herbs and spices, worcestershire sauce, and butter-no,land 'o lakes margarine actually. No poke salad though.

Another long week, and short weekend coming up. Delivered in Butler,Pa. early Tuesday morning and went to Brookfield and was loaded and ready to go by 10:30 am,figuring i'd get to Roanoke and unload early Tuesday night and come home. But,that all changed when I had to go to Malta,Oh. and make another pickup.Last time I went there and loaded the cement mixers I was empty, this time I had on almost 44,000 lbs. of the big Metalsa coils right in the middle of the trailer, and couldn't make much time on the very narrow, crooked, small, twisty, skinny, roads getting there. Picked up 5 mixers and a small skid of unknown product over there, going to Vinton,Va,near Roanoke. So I didn't get home, but I got paid for 2 loads in one,so it was a very good round.
Then I had to go to Petersburg and get a 60' load going to Wheeling,W.V. that wasn't ready until about 6 o'clock Wednesday night. I delivered there Thursday morning, then went back to Brookfield and loaded more coils for Roanoke. Got that off this morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded kryptonite,or kyanite I mean, (I can't haul kryptonite,it makes me sick, especially green kryptonite) for Brook Park,Oh. That's near Cleveland,so I'll be leaving early Sunday.
Got a roll of film developed today that I took during my recent travels-a B-model Mack on rt. 60 between Rupert and Charmco,W.V, a plane towing a sign when I was unloading in Avon,Oh,a Superliner for sale in Moorefield,W.V,3 shots of climbing the mountain out of Uniontown,Pa. headed east on U.S. rt. 40-the little notch to the left of the sign is where i'm headed, then i'm almost to the top with Uniontown visible in the mirror, then the motel at the top. This mountain is so steep the speed limit going down is 10 mph. I once got stopped going down it for doing 17 mph in a 10,with an empty flatbed . Cost me about $100 near as I can remember, that was about 20 years ago. And,some of those giant windmills on a mountaintop, somewhere near Pa,W.V,or western Maryland.
P.S.-How about Mushroom colors on your B-67 Paul? I like it,very colorful.

Geez, what did I do this week,if anything?..oh,I remember-left Sunday (4th Sunday in a row I had to go out,and I hate having to go on Sunday!) for Chester,W.V. After I unloaded in Chester Monday morning I went to Macedonia,Oh. and loaded coils going to Roanoke. First time i'd been to Macedonia to load for a long time.Good place to load, nice people, Rachel ( )in the office looked good as always . Unloaded in Roanoke Tuesday morning, then went to the shop and fueled and dropped my trailer and pulled a drop-deck to Duluth,Ga. with a load of steel-2 stacks of sheets,2 coils, and some other long thin strips of something or other.Had to take a drop deck to reload some small trailers at Monticello,Ga. and brought them back to New London,Va. Then I went to the shop and fueled, got my regular trailer, and went back to Lynchburg and loaded another load to Duluth,Ga. Had to go to Birmingham,Al. to load Friday and picked up a load of rebar at Nucor in Birmingham, formerly Birmingham Steel.
Made it up as far as Niota,Tn. Friday evening and stopped at Crazy Ed's truckstop and got some fuel and a bite to eat. Then I took a nap to let the traffic die down some, and left there about 12:30 am and got in about 7:00 am Saturday morning.I had a tooth hurting some when I left Thursday, and by now it was throbbing -not really a tooth, but my gum.Had a big knot on it and hurt like h#!!, but that Motrin ib is some good stuff-i'd take 2 and the pain was gone for about 6 hours, then BAM!-take two more, good for another 6 hours. I know there's some infection up in there, and little or no chance to see the dentist and get a prescription for antibiotics before Tuesday, but I got plenty of Motrin...jaw's all swollen now, looks like I got a chaw in,or I saw Mike Tyson in a bar and called him a punk...or saw Paul at a chef's convention and called him a cook. Anyway,it's nice to be home on Sunday, and know I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow. I smoked a pork loin on the grill today-looks delicious, smells delicious-owh,my gum! Anyway, they're repeating last years Ice Road Truckers on TV today,so I thought I'd watch that . Jobyna wants to watch tennis, but I let her know right quick who's king of this castle!
By the way, Andy Roddick's leading some dude named Seppi 3-1.

Went to the annual benefit at the Toga Volunteer Fire Department today. I took some pictures there at the car show, but I left and went to see my Mother and Father in Cumberland,Va. before everything was there...it had just got started good when we left, and was about over by the time we got back. Stopped by to see my oldest son on the way back, and gave him his birthday present...his birthday was August 19th,so I was A little tardy.
I took pictures of what was there before we left, then a fleet of big Mack trucks in Cumberland, then on the way to my son's house saw the "truck of the day"-A beautiful Diamond T (that's not how you spell beautiful is it? it just don't look right...never mind,i'll ask Rob later) sitting in Gary Barr's yard.So we stopped and I chatted for about an hour-if you check out Old Bill's website and read my entry in "How You Got Started in Trucking",he's the guy that was too young to drive out of state. We ran several trips to the west coast together before they found out,and was practically born in a truck. He can wheel! Hadn't seen him for years, and it was a great time! His daddy had a Diamond T,and I remember Gary driving it to school...really! I thought it was the same truck, but he found this one in New York and brought it home. It's smaller than the one his Dad had,gas engine w/a 5 speed and 2 speed rear.
So,i'll just put the pictures in a gallery because there's so many, and i'll be looking forward to seeing Paul's pictures from Watt's Mack's open house-would have liked to have been there, but it just didn't work out. I also took a few more of my mixer, because I waxed it yesterday, for the first time ever.
So check out my albums for the pictures,i'm starting to post them...NOW!

I must be off now-going to Roxana again with piling. Good thing they're building that pipeline from Alberta. Hauling the piling to the refinery has really been good, keeping us a little busy anyway. Haven't been making but one round a week lately, and deadheaded back to Knoxville and Rome, Ga. the last two times I went to Roxana.
We lost 2 of our regular hauls lately, the treated lumber out of Moneta and return loads of steel to Roanoke. A large flatbed carrier, like the mickow corporation, cut the rates and just took the hauls. Bidness is bidness I guess...a dog eat dog world.
...And how about Miss California? I saw the headline yesterday on the yahoo home page but didn't read the story. It just said her answer to a question may have cost her the Miss America title. Then I heard the whole story on the news this morning. I thought she had stumbled on a reply or something, like standing there saying "well, uh... mmm, duh- d'oh!"
That wasn't it at all-she replied to a question about gay marriage and the faggot-can you say that here?-judge that asked the question didn't like her reply that marriage should be between a man and woman. So he scored her low or not at all. She gave a good answer I thought, and her personal opinion shouldn't be held against her either way. Just my opinion.

Several years ago I was talking to one of P.L.Duncan's drivers in Sparrows Point,Md. I was telling him about my old cement mixer and my love of old trucks, and he told me about all the old trucks Mr. Duncan had, some packed in a building so tight you could hardly walk between them. He said they were all old, and most of them were running. I told myself then, "self, you need to get down there and take a look at those trucks". Well, after about 5 or 6 years, I finally did Friday. It was a great trip. I called Mr. Duncan before I went, and he told me to come on down. He's a very nice man, and when I got there I saw that his driver I talked to was understating if anything- he has all kinds of antique trucks, stuck everywhere! I took some pictures, then stopped to see an old friend of mine before I went to see mom and dad, and he owns the old 860 GMC that was a wrecker at the garage I worked at in Cumberland when I first got out of high school, in 1974. It was great! You can still see "Cumberland Auto Service" on the doors. Always loved that truck- 6-71 Detroit, 5 speed, with 2 speed rear. Just wish I could have driven it again! But, it was a great day!
p.s- the wrecker body and winch that used to be on the 860 is now on this 9500 GMC, still in use to this day!
    Here's some random pictures...

went to Avon...then to Sharon,Pa. Brought 2 coils back to Lynchburg. Talked to Frankie at Handy-he got out of a Western Star with a 550 cat into one of the new 386 Petes they just got,and he was not impressed. He didn't like the slower speed, lower h.p.(485 cummins isx),and mainly the way it rides. They look good though! He said it bounced like a cabover with the set-back front axle. I'd just be whining and crying about the lower horsepower if it was me,and Jeff already has one ordered. It's supposed to be in in October. I'm happy as a monkey on a 'nana boat with my 550 now that it's running right. Just running south or the rathole of the northeast, like a lot of the guys do, it wouldn't make much difference, but running Ohio and western Pa. like I do most of the time that extra power is really nice to have.Especially loaded heavy both ways, usually 45,000+.
Then I was off to Zelienople,Pa. with a load of kyanite and went over to Malta,Oh. and picked up a load of small cement mixers and miscelaneous equipment that went with them to deliver in Vinton,Va. Monday. This was a pretty light load, but there's no good way to get to Malta,Oh. from anywhere, and it was very tight getting to the place where I loaded.Still haven't gotten the dump valve replaced on the trailer.

I took a van load-actually part of a load, only had 5,600 lbs. and the trailer was about a third of the way filled-to an Amish stove shop just out of Ashland, Ohio. The address said it was on rt.545 so, I could either go through Ashland on rt. 96 and go north on 545 or, stay on 250 up past Bailey Lake and come back south on 545. I opted for the latter so I wouldn't have to go all the way through town. As usual,I picked wrong. The place was easy enough to find, but it was on the right and I had to back in the driveway off the road. Since the driveway was angled in the way I was headed it would be nearly impossible to blind side in with a 53' van,so I went to look for a turnaround plce. Ended up going down to rt. 96,turned left, and had to go all the way into Ashland before I could get turned around. By the time I got back another truck was there parked in the road, waiting to back in.I didn't want to park in the highway,so I kept riding north on 545 until I got back to 250,then went back into Ashland to 96,then back to 545 and turned north again. By the time I got back this time the other truck was just pulling from the dock to close his doors.I wasn't going to make another lap around Ashland so I waited in the road for him to pull out. It was not a high traffic area. After I got unloaded with hand pallet jacks, and getting two crates reloaded to take back to Lynchburg because they weren't done right,I headed down to Vinton. Didn't really look like there was any good way to get from Ashland to Vinton,so I just took the direct route. Didn't see any low underpasses listed in the road atlas so I went down 13 to 256 to 664 to 93 to 324 to 160 to Vinton. I even had directions to this place-"look for a stable in front of a white farm house" But again,I found it with no problem and they even had a big gravel lot with plenty of room to back up to the dock. The place was called Ashland Stove Company, and the place in Ashland was Shrock Stove
This was a really neat operation here. A man and a woman was on the dock soldering some kind of boxes together, but they put 3 of the boxes at a time in a rack, painted some acid or flux on the seam, then tilted the rack back so the seam dipped into a thing like a trough that was filled with molten solder and the solder would stick everywhere they had painted the flux on. Then they'd turn them over and do the other sides. Then a little girl who looked about 10 or 11 would put them in a large sink and rinse the flux off then set them on the dock. Then she'd put a plastic handle in between two tabs on each end of the box, stick a piece of precut threaded rod through it,put a nut on each end and tighten them with her little wrench and a box ratchet. Everybody there was working except the dog,I didn't see him doing any work, but he was there, not sleeping in the shade like some dogs do. There were 2 little girls about 4 or 5 years old riding scooters back and forth the whole time,on the dock, between the buildings,in the buildings-just room-a-zoom-zoom the whole time I was there. Even the boy loading the trailer would ride the pallet jack like a scooter down the slight incline to the next building to get another pallet, and there were several near misses with the 2 little girls' scooters, but no crashes.
The trailer was almost full with this load, and I had 35,000 lbs. I slid the tandems up behind the landing gear legs like a Swift truck on the way up so I could go across 60 to Charleston, and left them there and came back the same way. When I went around the 15mph. curve at Chimney Corner I looked in the mirror and saw dust, smoke, rocks, gravel, asphalt, and concrete just flying! The bumper on the back of the trailer drug the pavement all the way around the curve-it's a tight hairpin to the right but drops down steeply too. Didn't hurt the bumper at all,I don't think it plowed the road up either. I backed the trailer to the dock in Lynchburg last night, dropped it and bobtailed home.

Made my 2 stop deliveries in Oberlin and Vermilion, Oh. then went to Brookfield again and back to Roanoke. Delivered there late Friday night and got to the south Lynchburg truckstop about 2:30 am. Saturday.
It's snowing pretty hard here now. Calling for 4 to 6" . Nice to be home on Sunday for a change, especially with the snow coming down-cooking some wings, got beer in the fridge, the race is coming on TV...nice...UNTIL THE POWER WENT OUT!

I didn't take any pictures this week but Big Jim sent me some. He went to Miami and went across rt. 41 through the everglades. He stopped somewhere and took all these alligator pictures. They weren't in a cage somewhere, they were in the wild. Looks like he was getting a little too close for me, but I guess he just zoomed in on them. I know he has a good camera. In fact, unlike myself, he's actually a real photographer. I sent one back to him showing what the 'gators were thinking when he was taking pictures of them. He also took these pictures at Calvert City, Ky. when he loaded there just after the ice storm.

Well,my first day of vacation is about over-i'm ready to go back to work. Got up at 3:30 this morning, for no particular reason. Climbed up onto the roof when it was light enough to see and fixed the shingles that the wind blew off earlier this year. Used a homemade ladder I built out of some treated 2x4's I brought home. Weighs about 9,000 lbs. but it worked OK. I didn't replace the shingles, just put a lot of tar on it. Then I went over to Wal-Mart and got a weedeater and a sprayer,so when we got home I tested the weedeater for a while, then sprayed some miracle-gro on the garden. Had a pretty good little rain shower yesterday, and another today,so the garden looks pretty good right now...that reminds me,I need to go spray my anti-varmint spray again now (AKA pepper spray) or the rabbit will eat everything by morning-see ya!

Went to Petersburg and picked up a load of beams Monday after I unloaded in Vinton,Va. Delivered them in Bethlehem,Pa. Tuesday morning and then went to Sparrows Point,Md. and loaded one single coil for Salem,Va. that weighed about 47,000 lbs. Then I loaded kyanite for Avon,Oh. and went from Avon to Pittsburgh and loaded 2 coils at Galv-Tech going to Lynchburg.Unloaded there Friday morning and went to Dillwyn and loaded kyanite for Donora,Pa. to deliver Monday morning-only 6 pallets, about 22,000 lbs .I was supposed to go to Zelienople, but they changed it when I got to Dillwyn....
(yawn)...geez,...so what? This is so boring (but I like it when nothing out of the ordinary happens) i'll add some pictures of my recent travels for entertainment purposes-A Super Liner dump truck,an old Ford I saw on rt. 460 near Disputanta,Va, a Mack going down the highway backwards as fast as I was going forward (...gee,hope it wasn't behind a wrecker...),traffic back-up on I-81 just north of Roanoke because of an accident, a big Mack truck in Montvale,Va, and what else? oh,I remember,a sharp looking Peterbilt at the truckstop in Newcomerstown,Oh. And a b-61 at the KW lot in Youngstown,Ohio out of the Truck Paper.Don't see them on a dealers lot much anymore.

I delivered the load from Texas to Milton, Pa. Tuesday, then rode over to Brookfield, Oh. and got a load of coils and went to Roanoke. I thought I was going to Chester, W.V. with a curtain side, or Conestoga, or whatever you call it Thursday (they won't unload a flat bed in winter, and we didn't know if we could get a return load for a van), but they got a Fremont, Oh. load so I took that instead. Ran in lots of snow (again!) all the way (well, all right, most of the way!) up and back. Had to go from Fremont over to Butler, Pa. to reload at AK Steel-I hate AK Steel by the way, have I mentioned that before? My appointment was at 3pm, got there at 3:15 and waited in the holding pen until after 6 when they finally called the 3 o'clock trucks. Didn't get out of there until 9 last night, when it was blizzarding (I just made that word up). I drove down I-79, saw a cop in the median just before exit 99 in West Virginia, I looked at my speedometer and was doing 74 mph (speed limit was 70). He didn't move but then a 4 wheeler passed me like I was tied to a stump, and he came out and pulled the car over. I stopped where you get on rt. 19 and pulled on the shoulder and took a nap until almost daylight. Then I came on down 19 to Summersville and took rt. 39 over to Nettie, stopped at the GoMart for a coffee and sausage bistit, then rt. 20 to Charmco, and rt. 60 to I-64 at Sam Black Church. 39 and 20 was pretty much snow covered, but no problems. Everything was lovely when I got on 64, and I got to the shop about 11:30. Took some good pictures along the way too...

Well it's been 9 days since the last cigarette...but who's counting,right?.. and that was an ultra light-only one all day, while I was fueling up before I left for Orchard Park.
Went to Zelienople and Fremont this week, loaded back to Roanoke out of Macedonia both times. Yesterday I went down to Petersburg and loaded 60' piling going about 10 miles North of Portage, Wisconsin for Monday delivery. Already got a load back to Norfolk out of Crystal Lake,Il. We had about 18-20 loads going up there, most on 53' trailers, but I pull a 48. I put about 3' hanging off the front ( we have headache racks on the trucks,no headboards on the trailers) with about a 9' rear overhang. I could get away with a little extra overhang on the front because the piling is all in one stack in the center of the trailer,so it won't hit the headache rack when I make a turn. Some guys are leaving tomorrow, some Sunday. I think I'm going with the Sunday morning departure. The return load doesn't load until Tuesday, and as the late "Hippie" used to say " everybody can't be first ". I used to leave after church on Sunday going to Boston and Chicago and be there at 7am Monday morning, but that's when I was A young man. If I leave pretty early Sunday I should be able to get it off by Monday evening anyway. And that's something that doesn't really bother me A lot anymore. Sometimes of course A customer may need or want something at 7am and I'll do my best to get it there, but for the most part when I get tired I'm looking for a wide spot and pull over and take a nap. The company I used to drive for,for over 25 years ( until the one A-hole dispatcher came along that I just couldn't get along with, and anybody'll tell ya if ya cain't get along with me,ya cain't get along with yourself! ),would fine you $25 (taken out of your safety bonus) for not delivering at 7 am,whether it needed to be or not. Todd told me when I first went to work for him " I'm more concerned about my trucks arriving somewhere safe and up on the wheels than I am about them being somewhere at 7 am". Makes sense to me. I have unloaded in Fremont,Ohio on Monday morning, sitting there when they opened, loaded back to Lynchburg,Va and was sitting back in Fremont Wednesday morning before they opened, loaded back to Lynchburg out of Sharon,Pa, and was back in Fremont Friday morning when they opened. But if I hadn't unloaded until after lunch every time,it wouldn't have made any difference at the end of the week. I would have still ran 3 Fremonts that week, and that ain't shabby.

All righty then, due to an overwhelming public demand-arrright then,Bollweevil said "if you insist..."-here's more pictures. They're not gonna be in order because I scanned them in a very haphazard manner, but they're all the trucks I drove for H.H.Moore from the '74 transtar to the 9900I,no.s 15 and 55 I drove and drive for F.L.Moore and Sons, the mud bogger in action,my old Nova ( before and after ),my KZ1000 Kawasaki (hey, that's my gold Skylark in the background, forgot about that car-was a good one),something at a forestry show in Richmond,Va. and a Christmas tree I put on the back of a trailer that survived a trip to Chicago and back, and coming into Rainelle,W.V. on rt.60 in the snow.

I spoke with Shirley Sponholtz on the phone recently, and she is A very nice person. You might be thinking,"so...who the heck is Shirley Sponholtz?" Well, she's the editor of "Old Time Trucks" magazine. I called to order some back issues my mixer was in,and she answered the phone! And she talked to me like A regular person,so I guess she's A regular person. When the back issues came, they were the wrong issue, but I just kept them and re-ordered the issues I wanted by mail.Yes,I paid for them!.They sent the wrong issue again,so I sent an E-mail telling them it was wrong, and she called me,but I wasn't home,so they called me today to get everything straightened out,and we did. Most people wouldn't bother to call twice if you had A problem,or once for that matter, but it really impresses me that people like Shirley,Barry,William Weatherstone-all trucking people-will go out of their way to help you with A problem, and treat you like an equal ...well,I'm just happy to know people like that. I've never met Paul VanScott,Bulldog Man,or Freighttrain,or anybody else but I like them all,and kind've feel like I know them...know what I mean? All good truckin' people. I'm just A Mr. Nobody, but A great antique truck magazine is called "Old Time Trucks"-give Shirley A call @513-573-3513,maybe she'll answer the phone.

I went to the eye Dr. Monday, and she said everything was looking good.I have to use eye drops every day for glaucoma. They put drops in my eyes and dilated my pupils, and shined that really bright light in them. Then I went to the shop and picked up a load of beams at the yard going to Export,Pa.It was almost dark when I left the Dr.'s office and I could see pretty good.By the time I chained my load down and left it was full dark, and everything was a little blurry, and every time I met a car their headlights looked like aircraft landing lights. So I made it up to Charmco,WV about 10 pm,decided to take a nap for a couple of hours, and woke up at 6 am. Still got to Export around lunch time. Then went to Macedonia,Oh. and loaded to Roanoke, then took a load of Kyanite to Chester,WV and back to Macedonia and Roanoke.I'm off until Monday morning when I have to go to Tightsqueeze,Va. and load a load of pipeline pipe going to Anderson,S.C. Stopped by Food Lion on the way home yesterday to pick up a few things, and the bill came to $92.22.Even got a turkey to smoke in the old smoker oven-haven't used that in a while.

After the funeral Tuesday I mentioned to Jeff that it was the longest funeral I'd ever been to.He said "yeah,if I go before you do,try to keep mine down to about 30 minutes, and one song-'roll on big mama'-something everybody'll like". He's very funny.Only made one round this week,it was very slow.I went to Donora,Pa. with 6 pallets of kyanite-half A load, usual load is 13 pallets, little over 46,000 lbs.Made up for it coming back though, loaded 3 coils at Beech Bottom,W.V. going to Emporia,Va. to unload Monday morning - they're A little over 50,000 lbs.Total weight of course, not 50,000 each-I'd have needed A push truck to get home.

I'm running out of titles- might have to go back to stealing Paul's
I got out Tuesday and went to Roxana with a 60' load, then deadheaded to Knoxville and picked up 60' rebar going to King George, Va. Can't unload that until Monday, but I have a dentist's appointment Monday too.
Even ran into some snow when I left Tuesday-it was snowing off and on most of the way across West Virginia.
And I saw a 2-story forklift in Suffolk, Va. last week.
And I saw the Volvo plant in Dublin,Va. yesterday.
And I saw a dog in the yard.
And I saw this Euclid when I was coming from the dentist's office.

I'm at home...early...on Tuesday this time. I've been to Conneaut,Ohio and back to Richmond from Follansbee,W.V. with a van load, now i've got another van load going to Ashland,Oh-home of the late Tim Richmond-with a return load to pick up in Vinton,Oh. Only thing is,the load in Vinton won't be ready until Thursday,so it seemed better to me to lay over at home tonight and deliver in Ashland Thursday morning, rather than deliver tomorrow and have to wait until Thursday to reload. I'll only have about 6,000 pounds on. Speaking of 6,000 lbs,I came back from Follansbee across rt. 250 from Moundsville to Fairmont,W.V. Had 26,000 lbs. on though. A great adventure nonetheless-first time i'd been across there since 1980,when I was driving an F-model Mack, with a 300 and 5 speed.I said at the time I wouldn't do it again bobtailing, but...

Only got in one trip this week, was supposed to go to Negley, Ohio monday but went to Fremont instead. Had to untarp one pallet at a time in the pouring rain so it wouldn't get any wetter than it already was. Then I went to Brookfield to load and there was 4 trucks ahead of me at door 12. Got there at 3 o'clock and left at 8. Didn't really matter though. I unloaded about noon Wednesday in Roanoke and was done for the week until I went to Moneta today and loaded treated lumber for Erie, Pa. I wouldn't leave until late Sunday, or maybe Monday morning, because of the Cumberland county Christmas parade, but it's so slow i'm just gonna have to miss it this year and get on up to Erie. First one i've missed since I've had the mixer, and won a trophy every time. But times are tight, gotta go-can't eat those trophies!
And speaking of the mixer, I started it Wednesday and it looked like there was a piece of clear plastic laying on the hood. I got out to get it off and unfortunately it was not a piece of plastic but the clear-coat peeling off in big sheets. My theory is that when I waxed it I waxed through the clear coat and a little moisture seeped in, then it froze and pulled it loose from the base coat. Never had any problem 'til I waxed it, so I assume that's what happened. Looks terrible now anyway. Might try to peel the clear-coat off and wax it, if that doesn't work too good I might have to repaint the hood. Someday, that is-right now I couldn't afford a can of krylon.

Hauled a couple of loads this week. I unloaded in Lynchburg Monday morning and went to Moneta and got a load of lumber going to Conneaut Lake, Pa. Then down to Pittsburgh to load steel to Lynchburg. Then got a load of lumber off the yard going to Oberlin and Norwalk, Ohio. Back to Pittsburgh-back to Lynchburg. (yawn...)
I did see a gray Mack dump in Pittsburgh-had a "for sale" sign in the window. I actually saw another Mack for sale on rt. 51, but I didn't get a picture. I don't know what model it was, but it was a fairly new looking cabover with a set back axle and a van body. Weather's getting warmer now, so you see some nice looking new cars on dealer's lots .
And I got a little better view of the B-model dump with the chrome radiator shell in Pa. And this old shovel must still work, i'm pretty sure it's been moved since the last time I was by there. I think this is where they park blimps in Akron, Ohio. This building used to be in the Guiness book of world records as the largest ...largest ...I don't know what you call it, but it's all open space on the inside, with no columns holding it up in the middle of it. And some old units on rt. 14 in Ohio.
And how 'bout that cabbage, eh? This was when I put the anti-rabbit fence up a couple of weeks ago, and now.

Not too bad a week this week, better'n last week anyhow! I left Sunday going to Orchard Park, then went to Cleveland and picked up a load of coiled wire ( or "welfare wire" as Big Jim calls it ) going to Summerville, S.C. That's just outside of Charleston. Todd took the loads because he had loads going to N.B.Handy in Lynchburg at Nucor Steel in Huger, which is just outside of Charleston.
After I unloaded at Handy I could have reloaded a Charlotte load, but I declined because it's race weekend in Charlotte, plus the Memorial Day weekend traffic on top of that...so I came home and cut the grass.
Went to Petersburg yesterday and got a load of beams going to Syracuse. I'm already dreading the traffic going up 81 Monday. Got home and "weed eated" for a while then planted a few more tomato plants that I pulled from the plant bed. Got a little room left for a few pepper plants, but they're not quite big enough to plant yet. Then the garden will be packed full. Saw a rabbit out there yesterday looking at it through the fence, but Otherdog (the fearsome beagle) ran him off.
