  1. Ah, he comes to rattle the door handles every once and a while. Good to see him!
  2. Macks are small cubic inch compared to cat/Cummins. They don't drive the same, but will do the same job. Is the 8spd OD? Likely has 4.17 gears and puts you about where you're at speed/rpm wise.
  3. Ya, hate to pay too cheap and have it fall over in 5 yrs. This fence has been there 25 yrs. The poles aren't hateful, but the fence panels are weak and falling apart. I don't want to try using the old post at this point.
  4. This would be a great Jeff "what is it" question. He is the king of this kind of stuff
  5. Could have been flashing inside the exhaust manifold that finally broke loose? Could be exhaust port side of head also? Have to dig around and look for a clean spot where it might have chipped off.
  6. Anything with a tapered seat does not need sealant. With that said, if the two fittings are dissimilar metals I would suggest never seize or light oil to keep them from galling up. I learned a hard lesson just recently when I had to replace my AC compressor. Seems after 8 yrs the metal line fittings and the aluminum compressor fittings were destroyed when I tried to unscrew them. No easy way to clean the threads on the line fittings, so I had to replace the lines/fittings. The compressor was junk anyway, so the fact it tore the threads on it was moot. Lesson learned, the slightest dab of never seize will make it easier to work on in the future. Stainless is another metal that needs lubricant if two simlar fittings are assembled. Stainless against stainless will gall up very easy!
  7. Gunno order one up myself. I enjoy watching YouTube documentaries about movies. Wonder how much is actually true sometimes?
  8. Like any transmission you have to have enough engine rpm to be able to speed it up to downshift . My 6041 Spicer is about 250 rpm split just like my triplex compound so it downshifts just as easy as the compound. I assume yours is a deep under 1st like mine? You can't shift in/out of it while moving. If you are in low enough gears in main box, you can't get enough RPM to downshift the aux. I don't use my aux in lower gears. Typically just highway speed, using the OD(4th). I have used it instead of my compound(leave my compound in direct). The aux doesn't shift as smooth(sloppy linkage) so I don't do it normally.
  9. Looks like a great time. I wouldn't mind going through my triplex and rebuilding it. In all it works, but the way the shift handles walk back and forth I know the main shaft bearings are plenty sloppy. It falls out of gear on decel and if you use the Jake you better be holding it in gear, except for 5th. I seem to recall a discussion about when you rebuilt yours. I was concerned about finding all the bearings.
  10. My very worn out, loose, clanky, triplex leaks from the aux shift arms. At least that is one main spot that runs down the side. I'm sure the o rings on those shafts are likely rock hard. Thus the reason I want to replace it with something.
  11. I forget, what transmission? Not that it matters that it fixed itself.
  12. Yup. That's him.
  13. Jeez, I need 96ft! I can see $10k!
  14. I'd pay a reasonable fee to have it done. Not sure anyone does that anymore.
  15. Pretty cool truck for sure.
  16. Those early V8s are cool but costly to fix/repair IF you can find parts.
  17. Wow...never priced them. I'm just now trying to justify $2000 for replacing 12 PCs of privacy fence. Geesh. Fence, 4x4s and concrete. Let alone renting a bobcat with hole drill(I'm not doing it by hand).
  18. Direct sun is about all they are good for. I agree, some of those fiberglass wave panels that were used for roofs back in the day would be easy to screw to the uprights and give you some side protection. Some use tarps but one good storm and they are shredded.
  19. In the 80s, I ran stacks on my f100, 302/4 spd. Used thrush glass packs(with the bird on the side). Holee Hell that thing made a racket. It was cool when I was 18 yrs old. Wind it up, let off, and let it bark for 1/2 a block. Everyone knew I was coming!! With the rear slider window open it was deafening in the cab! 😲 Truck is looking great Tom! Under roof is even better.
  20. Make it a yard ornament for rocks(since you don't have grass). 😆
  21. I remember the lift, but not which truck. I only remember their burgundy B model. It is without a doubt my first favorite B model. I forget where I saw it in person? Auburn or South bend?
  22. Fantastic job! Thanks for sharing.
  23. My daily is a 95 F150, 302/auto. Absolutely love it. It has 177k miles on it now. Since you replaced the 02 sensor I would start looking at fuel issues. It was likely reading out of spec, but it may just be running rich due to too much fuel? Too little fuel? How many miles on injectors? I just replaced mine due to dripping. It was hard to restart after like 30 minutes of sitting. Friend has an injector cleaner, so I installed a fresh set and it runs/starts flawless and mileage actually increased about 1 mpg.
  24. All anyone knows is I'm going to a truck show. About 21 yrs ago I used to have to hit the scales on my way to the one local dragstrip. I did it twice a weekend if they happen to be open both days. One time, I did get a red light so I went around back and came in. Lady officer just wanted to see my license and insurance card. I was good to go. She was curious as to what I had in the trailer. I told her a 64 galaxie wagon. She commented that her parents had a galaxie growing up and asked to see it. I knew she was fishing for an excuse to see inside the trailer. I opened it up, she glanced inside and said "neat, thanks". I closed up and left. Shortly they changed the sign to read "commercial trucks only". I haven't stopped since. Pennsylvania is still all trucks and have pulled in. When in VA I also had to pull in. Being a vintage looking truck, that looks well cared for, I don't get hassled.
