  1. And, let's not forget our friends at Volvo, who abandoned the very elegant part numbering system Mack people had known and used for years in favor of their "global" numbering system which means........nothing, as far as I can see!
  2. It's not much of a movie. But it has Dogs in it.
  3. Well, darn! Can't find Brad's website. Hope everything is okay with him.
  4. On Brad's website, there is a good write-up on the building of the KW. After a couple of years of digging & research, there's still debate "out there" as to whether Brad's Pete is "truck 2" or "truck 3" from Duel. I've found pretty compelling information that it is #2, which is the truck used to film a couple of scenes that were added to the theatrical release of the movie. The truck HAS been modified since then. Some say it is #3, which was not used in the film. But, I am pretty sure #3 was a shorter-wheelbase truck, which was later re-painted & used elsewhere in movies. Doesn't matter one way or the other...it's still just super cool!
  5. Anybody ever see "Alaska Passage?" Starring...B-model Macks!
  6. I've also seen multi-speed boxes torn to shreds by a Maxidyne. Look at the torque ratings...the old boxes just weren't built to take that much torque. It mainly depends on how you load & drive them. If running a Maxi hooked to a Quad, for instance, don't let the Maxi lug down into that maximum torque zone. Treat it like a Thermo, & keep the rpm up in the 18-2100 range. The torque up there is more in line with a Thermo. And, you're right; a 5-6 speed is just too widely spaced to run behind a Thermodyne without ridiculously low gearing.
  7. Yep. That's the classic Mack setup. And you don't have to wait long to shift...especially if you split all the ones you can!
  8. The old R is painted in the scheme I want to put on mine! Glad to see a picture of one of those.
  9. I hope this doesn't start a brawl...I HATED driving the original Maxidyne/Maxitorque trucks! Having to wait that long to downshift drove me batty! You had to get in a whole different frame of mind to drive them. We used to call them a "lazy man's truck." Just personal preference, I guess.
  10. Pretty classy...

  12. They had some cool stuff, didn't they!
  13. Made in Henderson, NC...
  14. "That's just what we need, a Drewish princess." "Funny, she doesn't LOOK Drewish."
  15. Lurk, lurk, lurk...
  16. Ps on you. I'm workin' for Mel Brooks!
  17. I believe everything but the fenders was polished.
  18. ...and my personal favorite... "Why do you want that beer so bad?" "Cause he's thirsty...dummy!"
  19. Ain't it the truth...
  20. Yep. But I didn't have far to go. Your profile says Colorado? That's a "fur piece" to go to see the show! "Looks like a legend & an out-of-work bum look a lot alike, Daddy."
  21. Not sure how new they can go. Newer stuff is usually available through the dealer system.
  22. Assuming it's an old truck, and you have the vin off the frame...Call the Mack museum. Or, you can email them. The contact info is on their website. They can send you the build sheet. It's invaluable information. It may not break everything down, but it ususally has enough detail to get you headed in the right direction.
  23. "...sometimes nothin' can be a real cool hand..."
