First time doing Mack kingpins on my 94 ch613. What came in my pai kit looks a little different than what’s in my truck. Mainly wondering if this piece with the cross in it in the bottom is to be reused? Is it threaded in or just pressed/drove in? And wondering if I’m ready to drive the old ones out once that bottom piece is out? Only ones I’ve messed with are the ones with the tapered pin and have heard of guys trying to drive those out and forgetting to take those tapered pins out first 😁

Mack king pins are farely simple. Will you be Removing the spindles, or try to knock the bushings out and in while still hooked to the drag link and tie rod? Just curious..

took everything apart. Just wasn’t sure what that was on the bottom if it was a nut or plug or what.

Jack stands under the axle beam, then, unscrew the bottom nut. the one with the cross in it. then you can drive the king pin down and out.  I made a tool years ago so that you have have a helper stand 3 feet away and hold a drift pin while you use the sledge hammer. I used a steel pipe and welded an old king pin to it. however in your case any 1'' round stock about 6-8'' long welded on the end will do. then your helper can hold the end of it while you swing the hammer.

Thats exactly like my  king pin removal tool, old king pin with a piece of flat bar welded to it.🤣    terry:MackLogo:

is there a procedure on how far to screw that bottom cap in? I would assume you need to go far enough to get the thrust bearing to contact the kingpin but how far past that?

So when you put the pin up in the eye. Set a bottle jack under it and push up. Put a little lift on it axle then drive down on the axle beam with a sledge hammer. This will seat the pin.  Then remove the jack , pack the thrust bearing with grease, and install it with the nut. Tighten the nut all the way, then back it to the next slot for the cotter pin. This should allow for smooth hand operation of the knuckle.
