Looking into R Model

Recommended Posts

Gents,

Am looking into a 78 R model with 237 and straight 5 for my first Mack that would be used for light hauling and recreation. Don't know the model number yet, but the guy who owns it and has for over 10 years says that the engine is VERY strong, unusually so for a 237. He says it needs little things to become an on-road truck that'll DOT, and that he loves the truck and is only parting with it because his wife won't drive it since fracturing her wrist driving it. I'm looking for any advice, thoughts, words of wisdom/caution that you have to offer before I go further with this one.

Instead of posting twice , I will welcome you here.

Welcome

As for your R with a 237 , in my opinion, it is a very simple and bullet proof truck. Perfect for your application .My only concern would be the rust in the cab and frame. There is others here a lot smarter than me , hopefully they throw in their 2 cents.
